The way it was explained to me. If you aren't making it back you aren't making it back, end of story. Deep brakes wil change your glid ratio more then any other method, getting you farther. I said, "well, rears do the same thing without losing speed!" he said, "No they don't and here's why...." I forgot the why but remember the lesson. If brakes wont get you back...you wont be getting back. Oh! I remember how we tested it out. Accuracy trick find the unmoving spot. Go from brakes to rears and see which one is further out! Thats what we did. Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos

hmmm. I think your wrong. Give it a try, have someone with a similarly loaded canopy get on rears, you get in deep breaks and see who goes further. Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos

Cutaway system for 2K Composites FF2 helmet
WeakMindedFool replied to Zoter's topic in Gear and Rigging
Damn...that kicks ass. I'm gonna make one for my bonehead...BH just had a cotter pin system. I figured I could get it off with the mortal terror strength -
I just got a new rig and canopy too! I was practicing HP landings up high when someone real smart said "practice those but practice getting out of bad situations as well" I spend alot of time say things like "Damn...I'm too low...how do I get out of it?" or "Look! a baby carriage in the DZ, how can I not hit it at high speed and not die doing it?" So for me the name of the game is accident avoidance. Learning how my canopy reacts in the worst situations. Also, paying close attention to how it flies in a near stall. I hold it in a near stall and make turns (It can get you back from a long spot better then any other method). From what I've seen airlocks absolutely stay pressurized longer (ever watch someone on the ground with one trying to deflate it...LOL) I don't know if it helps in significant turbulance though. Jump at the Ranch? PLEASE HELP!!!
WeakMindedFool replied to WeakMindedFool's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
OK...greenines before you bump this out please read. Someone at the ranch was looking to buy my main. A Saber2 170. I sent the main to Sonic and after he inspected it the buyer was going to send money. I had a catosrophic failure in my hard drive and lost ALL my data. I lost all my video, music and my Email. So I have no idea who I'm selling this to. Sonic has the main, If you know who this buyer is or if you are this person PLEASE call Sonic and send me an email Thankyou Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos -
Decible levels in freefall? In the aircraft?
WeakMindedFool replied to Deuce's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Too costy! You can pick up a dB Meter at radio shack cheap if you want to know how loud FF is. For the short period you are in FF I doubt your doing significant damage. It's the plane ride that will fuck you up! (See pilot's notch). The plugs I linked you to have the advantage of being what they call "frequency flat" which means it attenuates all frequs. the same 12 db so you can still hear clearly...just not as loud. I use them at band practice and they work like a charm. Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos -

Question for those with experience flying a Nitro and Stilleto. I understand that the Nitro flies as if it was a bigger canopy. I've demoed a stilleto 150 and am waiting on a Nitro 150. I've been told it flies like a size bigger. Anyone have any experience with these canopies. And yes I did a search and got no info on this. Peace! First aid question - full face helmet
WeakMindedFool replied to billvon's topic in Safety and Training
Hmmm, I have to be honest, I've never tried to cut one. I always take them off first thing, I always have trained help though. I've trained someone to do it while doing it but...damn you do have a delema. The only way to realistically do what you want to do is train people to do it. Unfortunately they will get very little practice unless you make it an issue to practice the skill. Good luck Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos -

First aid question - full face helmet
WeakMindedFool replied to billvon's topic in Safety and Training
Your wrong on so many levels I won't even explain all of them to you. Tell me this...how many blunt force trauma codes survived in the U.S. last year? I can tell you how many survived in the last 10 years in this region. Guess? one. UCDMC did a large chart review of ALL trauma codes and found that over the preceding 8 years only one patient survived. Durring that time the only trauma codes that were called in the field were in cases of incineration, decapitation, vital organ seperation, and obvious greay matter in the presence of pulseless apnea... And they do cut pennines. Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos -
First aid question - full face helmet
WeakMindedFool replied to billvon's topic in Safety and Training
Bill, Penny cutters (Trauma Shears) Should do the trick on just about anything you would come up against...but if they are breathing, leave them for EMS. If they arent breathing they are dead already. Peace! Faith in a holy cause is to a considerable extent a substitute for lost faith in ourselves. -Eric Hoffer - Check out these Videos -

See if you can get someone to show you how to roll down the canopy into the D-bag. It's still a pro pack you just roll it in fron the bridle side (no s-fold) if rigger 66 is on line he can explain it...I can't, I can only do it. It's hell of alot easier to get a new or large canopy into the D bag. Peace and Good Luck!
