If your reason for not owning one is purly financial, you ae not looking hard enough for one. You can buy used Cypres's for around 500-700.00 USD depending on how many years are left on them. Dom

Never say never. I have seen two fire in the last month or so. What is your life really worth to you. Dom

If you have to ask. You shouldn't have one. SO DON'T ASK Dom

Forget manslaughter. Attempted MURDER should be the charge. If you screw with a parachute, you should at least be forced to jump it, exactly the way it is and see what happens. If you are ok, then let it be manslaughter, if you die. Well we will all be happy! Dom

His question was regarding the sale of Demo canopies and according to Lisa they don't really sell those. You can buy PD demo canopies from gear stores that have them. Dom
-
Pd doesn't really have "demos". I asked Lisa as well and she said that doesn't really happen. But there are some gear stores out there that sell theirs in good condition with just a few hundred jumps on them. Dom

No student should ever jump without one!!!! I wish every license holder would jump with one. But I don't think it should be mandatory. It is the individuals life and they can do with it as they please. Let them live through one scary incident and they will change their mind. The key is will they live through it. Dom

"Rounds malfunction more often than squares" - do they?
dgskydive replied to pchapman's topic in Gear and Rigging
I have! Somewhere under 800 feet. Not something I ever want to do again. As far as rounds malfunctioning more than squares, The old saying goes "round is sound". I have seen thousands and thousands of round canopy jumps and been on nearly one hundred of them and have seen less malfunctions with rounds in all those jumps then I saw last week alone at the DZ. That being said I would still rather have a square reserve and main. Dom -
I would go with the INFINITY and the SABRE2. But you will probably not be able to find a used Sabre2 in any size and if you do you got lucky. There is nothing wrong with the Pilot but it is still so new. You never know what kind of things might come up with a new canopy. I remember when the Triathlon first came out, my friend and I received ours on the same day. We did our first jumps on them together and his blew up mine was fine for another 300 jmps until I sold it. I have talked to Kelly and Jeff at Velocity and they both have said going up one size with your canopy should not be a problem and going down one or even two sizes depending on the canopy is a possibility. Thanks Deuce. Just trying to get as many opinions as possible. From talking to OB and Rauol I've got the same info. Just want to here from as many as possible before I dump a bunch of money in. Look me up when you get to Perris. Just ask for Dominic from Square 1. Dom

Infinity has always been great! I've had one since '94. I remember when people would look at me funny down here because I had one. Now the joke is on them. They have just gotten a lot better since Kelly took over. Anyone looking for a new rig had better look into one or they will be sorry. Plus Kelly and Jeff are real easy to work with. Better then the "BIG BOYS" that's for sure. Let's all see if we can get them so busy they fall way behind. I'm sure they would love it. Dom

Thanks for the info. I kind of figured Sony's where still it . Just want to here which ones seem to work the best. Dom

I have been out of the sport for almost 6 years and have been spending the last month or so getting current again. I have over three hundred camera jumps. But when I stopped, digital cameras where just coming on the scene. Looking for any and all opinions about cameras and helmets. I have pretty much decided to go with a FLAT TOP PRO for a helmet since I will be doing a lot or tandem and formation stuff. But any opinions would be appreciated on cameras. Dom

I put about 300 jumps on my Triathlon 160 and only had one hard opening (line dump). I rolled the nose on mine about 3 or 4 times. It usually opened in about 600-700 ft. always on heading. I hear alot of negative stuff from people about TRI'S but I think they are great. Just make sure your line stows are tight. Dom

Here is another way to do it. You can have the third party be a gear store. Have him send it to one and let them have it inspected. It will cost the seller about 100.00 or so . If it is good gear the store will let you know. Plus they will make sure it is sold for a fair price. Then you have the peace of mind that you will get what you are paying for and not have to worry about some body running off with your check. Dom
