So how are you going to improve your life in 2009???
skybytch replied to iluvtofly's topic in The Bonfire
The BA will be useful. Unfortunately, doing the next two years of school to get there is looking like it's going to be difficult. When people with decent credit aren't getting student loans, those of us without decent credit can expect to get fucked. I'm sure the franchise owners will appreciate the fact that I have an AA in History when I go apply for some kind of job that will allow me to save up 2 years worth of college tuition. Would you like to try our new chicken nuggets? -
Zeemax is dangerous no matter what the season.

What he said (although mine takes a bit less than a grand to open). Best canopy/line combination out there for us old, arthritic and/or previously broken folks.

Oh look! A shiny thing!!!

Get a college degree. A completely worthless degree as it's only an AA in History, but it's the first postsecondary degree that anybody in the past four generations of my family has earned. -
Still have 24 hours to go, but close enough. 1. I'm still alive! 2. Still have no titanium and I added no scars. 3. Most of y friends can say the same thing. Gravy - Finally earned the AFFI rating I've wanted since 1990.

I'd recommend actually jumping a variety of canopies before you decide on anything.

The photo credit on the pic in this article seems a bit strange to me...

I lost nuthin. That's right, nuthin. Yes, I am gloating. This is one of the few times us po' folk have it all over you rich folk.

This is not a skydiving website, nor is it a community of skydivers. It's a place where people with loud keyboards can make themselves feel important. I can say that cuz I'm important and I have a loud keyboard.

So it looks like in a few months I'll be living in Florida.

It's not the first one that gets ya. -
A couple of friends of mine spent last week in DC. The day they were at Arlington just happened to be the day the wreathes were placed. They thought it was really, really cool.

Men invented English? Damn, that explains a lot.

6:0:1 A six hour D&D session today. The likelihood of me skydiving goes down exponentially with every degree the temp on the ground drops below 65. Since the temp on the ground did not exceed 55 this weekend... well, I think you're smart enough to figure out the rest. I'm not paying it, but I suppose you could say I owe beer for attending my first Skydance dz xmas party last night. Wish I coulda brought home the leopard print satin sheets instead of the bottle of Crown Royal...

Today I get to watch the rain fall until noonish, then it's off to eat, drink and play Dungeons & Dragons with friends until our butts are too sore to sit any longer. I get to DM, too. Got all kinds of stuff up my sleeve to keep the party on their toes.

How many people that you have had sex with do you keep in touch with?

You didn't make a poll. How'm I supposed to answer this one anonymously without a poll? -
When I sell gear online, I ask that the buyer send me the money up front. Once it arrives I send the gear (although in most cases I've shipped it as soon as the buyer tells me the payment is on the way). I then hold the payment for a week or two so the buyer has time to get the item and have it checked out if they want to. Once they let me know they're happy, I cash the payment. If someone insisted on using a rigger as a middleman, I'd only be comfortable doing it if the rigger is working out of an actual business - a gear store, a loft on a dz, etc. I think the seller is less likely to get jacked if they are dealing with a business than if they are dealing with Bob, who works out of his living room when he isn't busy with his full time job...

Sky is crystal clear but it's not gonna break 50 degrees on the ground, my rig is in pieces and I don't feel like packing it and there are no students on the books, so today I get to: Drive s/o to the dz so he can jump all day. Go to the store for groceries and wrapping paper. Make a batch of brownies to replace the batch of brownies we weren't supposed to eat. Pick up s/o at dz after he jumps all day. Take batch of brownies and bag of cookies to dz Xmas party. Drink heavily.

Yeah. Downright shameful it was. Like a PeeWee hockey team. Glad I don't have to listen to their coach at practice today! Good thing it's a long season, huh?

Get thee to a dropzone near you and speaketh there with an AFF instructor. You don't have to be strapped to some dude (or even some chick) to get back in the air.
-
Yeah, kinda like when your old favorite dz changes and you have to find a new one... So, who's opening the new dz?

Does the risk eventually catch up to everyone?
skybytch replied to Megatron's topic in Safety and Training
A more important question might be - does a higher level of personal risk tolerance translate into a greater likelihood of injury or death? -
I need soft openings too. I jump a Spectre with Dacron lines and a factory slider. It opens like butter compared to my old Spectre with Spectra lines. The previous owner had an additional set of brake stows added that, when used, make the openings even slower; the few times I've used them, I've had to bring the slider down and pump open the end cells.
