  1. Then perhaps you should be posting on a website not aimed at those who participate in a sport in which 99% of the other participants are over 18?
  2. The only adjustment needed would be to shorten the closing loop. This is something you should already know how to do. Be sure to ask the manufacturer of the rig you decide to buy before planning to do this though. It isn't ideal, but on most containers it isn't completely unsafe.
  3. Not necessarily. In most containers you can safely go two sizes smaller than it was built for. A container built for a 210, while maybe not ideal, will likely work just fine when he's flying a 170. Unless he's going to be downsizing every 50 jumps or does a crapload of jumps in the next year, whatever he buys now will likely still be on his back in 2010. If he can afford it and doesn't care about it getting scratched or dirty, there's no reason for him NOT to buy a new custom container for his first rig. It is going to be HIS rig, after all... Besides, more new containers sized for 210's being sold now means more used containers of that size on the market in the future - you all seem to be forgetting just how hard it can be to find used containers in that size range. I would agree that a used main at that light of a wingloading makes sense though. But again, it's HIS money.
  4. That's why we make the big bucks.
  5. With something mounted on the front there would be no tandems. And where would this sport be without tandems?
  6. A bit of unsolicited advice. Don't try to learn to skydive based on what you read in a book or on the internet. You might think you are practicing things the right way but without an instructor there watching to correct your mistakes you may be building bad habits without even knowing it. Quit reading and go jump. You'll learn everything you need to know to do your first jump safely in the ground school.
  7. I'm of the opinion that students shouldn't jump with the same instructor on every supervised jump. I also feel that it isn't fair for one or two instructors to get the majority of the student jumps when there are other instructors available and wanting to work.
  8. Why does it matter to you if a novice buys new or used? It's not like his decision is going to impact your safety. It's his money, not yours.
  9. If you can afford it and you don't care about depreciation, definitely buy new. At those sizes you'll have NO problem reselling when/if you're ready to downsize, you'll get the colors you want (let's be honest, it's not how well we fly that matters, it's how good we look flying) and you'll get a harness that fits your body. The big disadvantage to buying new and custom for a novice (other than price) is the delivery time. Oh, and getting that first scratch on the container... that part sucks...
  10. Neither does a civil union between a man and woman.
  11. You're easy. My list included "must have more skydives than I do."
  12. The Nvertigo, like many other skydiving related items, has gone through changes over the years. The pictures you are seeing are likely of the older version and the ones you see in stores are newer versions.
  13. You can buy a printed copy from USPA or from many skydiving equipment retailers. You do want the newest version.
  14. Yeah. There's no chance that any of US could EVER fuck up THAT bad. Until we do... and then we realize that we aren't quite as perfect as we thought we were.
  15. The "handles" on the cabinets above the fridge both say Performance Designs. And there are always at least two or three attaching various things to my pack when hiking.
  16. And that is, of course, the very best reason anyone could ever possibly have to justify any skydiving equipment purchase...
  17. A few pics from last night's Sharks vs Stars game are here. Yeah I know, some of them are kinda dark, the lighting is pretty challenging. Oh, and Don? I was wrong. The seats aren't 8 rows from the glass. They're only 5.
  18. Engraved on the Cup or not, it's way cool for a hockey-tourist like me to see my teams name with the best record in the league. No matter how short a time it stays that way. Almost as cool as it is to watch them beat any other team from our seats 8 rows from the glass.
  19. Dang, you'd think ESPN.com or the Sharks own website woulda had something about that - I looked at both of 'em. No worries. Boucher will do the job for us. I'll try to get pics of him making a save tomorrow... although hopefully the rest of the guys will make sure he doesn't have to save too many.
  20. I only listened to last night's game; they said he was slow getting off the ice at the end but I haven't seen anything about him being on the injury list. Hopefully he's playing tomorrow night against Dallas... mainly cuz I get to go to the game.

    Comcast sucks

Two simple solutions. 1 - Get rid of the TV. -or- 2 - Get an antenna and a converter box. Do you really need 200 channels of shit on the TV to choose from?
