When a parachute opens in the airplane...
skybytch replied to Skyliber's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If it gets out the door it's going to pull the person attached to it out of the airplane. There's no guarantee that the person will leave the plane via the door. They may leave via the aircraft fuselage, perhaps taking vital parts and pieces with them; this could be an issue for everyone in the plane if one or more of those parts and pieces are needed operate control surfaces, not to mention that it could be an issue for said jumper who has to exit through the fuselage. Or they may leave through the door after their body hits a few other jumpers on the way out; this could be an issue for those jumpers who get hit. -
I was told it's pie for 100, 500, 1000 and every thousand thereafter.

The Triathlon has always been made out of zp fabric. The fabric they used to use came from a mill in South Africa; it was less slippery than the fabric they use now.

Credit where credit is due - Kim at APF emailed me back last night (my time; must have been first thing Monday morning Aussie time) with an apology and again this morning to let me know that credit has been given and the revised version will be up on their website soon. I feel much better now.

This post should be enlightening. The dungeon may have been remodeled since I was down there. I know for a fact that the secret entry codes have been changed, and the retinal scanner no longer recognizes my pupils. I sure hope they don't ban me for spilling the beans.

6:1:0 It takes 6 Miller Lite's to get me liquored up. Well, it took that many to get me liquored up this morning anyway. Did a sweet two way belly jump at sunset on Saturday.

I hugged your man today. More than once.

A 20 way speed star, a 2 way and a solo visiting jumper went up on a sunset formation load for Shannon at Davis yesterday. The 20 way built to 18. The 2 way built to.... two. It was a really crappy spot. The two way and the solo pulled high and enjoyed the sunset on the way back to the landing area; we were the lucky ones who made it back. The people on the 20 way were spread out in the fields up to a mile east of the airport. It was great! Thanks for the incredible sunset, Shannon. But next time you make me cry under canopy I'm gonna kick yer ass!

Nice soundtrack, dude. Good job.

Dammit! That's what I was gonna say!

That's normal for Dom.

I'm sure the nice people who own the house you are staying in have some stashed somewhere. It may not be good stuff but it's better than whatever cheap ass domestic swill beer you're drinking now. Go find the hidden liquor cabinet.

That could be why. It's best to have eaten something prior to jumping. Probably not. You don't have to do sharp turns or spirals when you're flying a parachute. Tandem harnesses are not the most comfortable things in the world even if they are adjusted correctly. Yours could have been a bit too tight.

A well known parachute designer and very experienced canopy pilot, Brian Germain, put out a chart that gives his recommendations for canopy sizes for jumpers under 500 jumps. It's attached to the first post in this thread. Check it out. You can buy whatever size main you think will be okay, but you're far better off getting the size that is recommended by people who actually know something. Have you talked about this with anybody who has seen you land a parachute?

Thanks for posting your thoughts, everyone. I'm with you on the too much family here bit. Me not jumping won't stop my friends from dying. I've accepted that. I'm wililng to take the risk of losing the friends I have now in exchange for the memories and the things they've taught me. But I'm not sure that I'm willing to get close to any more jumpers. And I don't know that the sport is worth putting my family through the pain that would come if I die jumping. I've always kinda scoffed at people who quit jumping after someone they knew died. Not anymore. I'm starting to think that maybe we can't really understand why they quit until we're at that point.

LMAO!! I checked out their website. They've got several articles written by others that are properly credited... I'm hoping this was an oversight and not deliberate. Even if they are selling the poster, it's not about money. I didn't write it for profit in the first place (although I did get $35 from Skydiving mag for it way back in the day ). I'm not even upset that they used it without permission. All I want is credit.

Surfing through the forums this morning, I found a link to this poster, which is distributed by the Australian Parachute Federation. When I opened it up, I was very surprised to see that it contains an edited version of an article I wrote ten years ago (that article has been posted here for a few years now). I'm glad that people feel the information in the article is valuable, but I'm a bit upset that it was used by the APF without giving me credit for my work. I've just emailed them to request that they put a byline on it, and of course I'm sure they will now that it's been pointed out. Am I overreacting?

Dude, that wasn't just basket weaving I took. It was underwater basket weaving. And somehow I got put in the advanced section - no oxygen! It was brutal. But I prevailed!

I just checked my grades for my first semester of college. I got all A's. That's a 4.0 GPA. My mother will be so proud of me. Heck, I'm even proud of me.
