Yup. Spent October through New Year's in one at Perris. I wouldn't mind doing it again, but only at a much warmer time of year.

imho, EVERY jumper should do the above things, regardless of whether they swoop or not.

Well, hell. If you guys really want to send money now rather than waiting until you get there, fine. Registration is $25. PM me for the name and address to send it to. -
You must have been hallucinating. I don't skydive.
-
Wow. Congrats, ya bitch!

I don't remember a whole lot, but I do remember that the beer sucked, the weather was crappy and there were too many damn Canadians.

Work? WTF is work?

I miss you, Skydive Paso Robles.

Reserve lines are stowed in a pouch on the freebag. It'd be interesting to find out how being wet affects how the lines feed out of the pouch. Would be more interesting to find out if what the freebag is made out of (different manufacturers use different materials) makes any difference too.

Helmet Alternatives - Skydiving "compatible" helmets
skybytch replied to Chris-Ottawa's topic in Gear and Rigging
Buy a used skydiving helmet if you have to have a fullface. If you aren't totally stuck on a fullface, buy a Protec. US$45-ish will get you a brand new one and it will protect your head far better than any of the skydiving specific helmets out there. -
About time is right! Congrats to two of my favorite co-conspirators!

It was 111 here yesterday. Broke the record for the day. But all was well... until the power went out. Luckily we knew where to find a motorhome with a generator. It's supposed to hit 110 today, but the humidity has cranked up. If it wasn't so brown outside I'd swear I was in Florida. Three more sleeps... I am SO looking forward to the cool nights in Montana!

It's going to be fucking hot. No. Wait. It already is fucking hot. It's going to be fucking hotter. But we gots a kiddie pool and a slip n slide. It could be worse.

how to fly and properly pilot a 7-cell canopy
skybytch replied to mostwanted's topic in Safety and Training
The same way you fly and properly pilot any main canopy, I'd think. If you don't have it already, pick up a copy of Brain Germain's "Parachute and it's Pilot." Don't just read it, actually go up and do the drills he suggests. A canopy control course is a good idea as well. -
I've never understood why people spend thousands of dollars on furniture when there's always someone out there either giving stuff away or selling it dirt cheap. Reduce, reuse, recycle!

Southern California is nice that time of year. It does rain sometimes but when it's not raining it's usually decent weather - not too hot, not too cold. I'd suggest saving some cash and staying at a dz bunkhouse instead of a hotel/motel for most of the trip. Plan to jump/stay at more than one dz - each one has it's own vibe and view. Look into flights in/out of Ontario instead of LAX. May cost a bit more but Ontario airport is MUCH easier to get in and out of (both size and amount of traffic) and to and from dz's than LAX is. Eloy is only a 5 hour or so drive from Perris. You could do a week at Perris then drive to Eloy and stay/jump there for a week, then drive back to SoCal and stay/jump at Elsinore for the last week.

I wish I could take credit for it, but I can't. I stole it from someone at Sunpath years ago.

On a Javelin/Odyssey, C17 refers to first the yoke size (C is basically for an average size guy's shoulders, B is narrower and A is really narrow) and second the MLW (main lift web) length. Easiest way to figure out if it will fit you is to take your height in inches, subtract your inseam (crotch to floor, no shoes) in inches, then subtract 20. The result will be a good guesstimate of what MLW length will fit you. Example - I'm 5'8" (68") and have a 33" inseam. 68" - 33" - 20 = 15... so a 15" MLW should fit me (and it does).

We'll have room to haul some camping stuff down from NorCal. If anyone wants to ship theirs out, let me know and I'll get you the address. -

Yup. I'm just slow. -
I'd have remembered that if you hadn't made me drink so much. Not only will I be there, I'll have cold Lang beer waiting for you.

Does she enjoy packing tight containers? Is she aware that by putting a larger main in than the container was designed for that she'll be putting more stress on the side flaps and grommets? Where does she mostly jump (i.e. in a hot, dry area like Arizona or southern California, where she won't like packing it, or in a more humid area like Florida, where it will pack up smaller)?

I know I owe you a beer. It's up to you to find me so you can collect.
