I can't believe no one else has posted this yet. Do I have to do all of the moderators, or can I pick which one I do? the quality of postings here has certainly gone downhill lately....

Star Farms Boogie - Sept 16-17, California
skybytch replied to skybytch's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Hotels/motels are available in Paso Robles, about 10 miles away. Figure $50+ a night minimum. I'd suggest making reservations early; they tend to fill up quickly on the weekends, even in the fall. America West and United Express/Skywest fly into San Luis Obispo, which is about 40 miles south. Car rental is available there, or maybe someone local can pick people up?? If I was taking an RV, you'd be more than welcome but I'll be tenting it. -
Yes. It'll probably be icky but I'll bet it'll get drunk anyway.

When I click on the "post an event" link from the event calendar page, it takes me to my account page, from which I can't see any way to post an event. Help? If it matters, I'm using Firefox 5.0 on XP.

Star Farms Boogie - Sept 16-17, California
skybytch replied to skybytch's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Sweet! Thanks, Spence! I promise, this boogie will be worth the trip! -
Yup yup! I'm thinking about a wine tasting thing for Friday evening (what better way to kick off a boogie than to get drunk!); if anybody's interested lemme know. We'll have a webpage up with driving directions, lodging options for those who don't camp, off site entertainment options for those who don't want to jump and other important info real soon. Bring the work with you.

One of the joys of being unemployed is that you get every day off. I'll be on a boat in the Prince William Sound from the 2nd 'til the 10th.

Can't seem to see any attachments when using the webmail system. The paper clip logo shows on the message listing, but when I open the email there is no attachment. I've tried in both Firefox and IE. ????

Star Farms Boogie - Sept 16-17, California
skybytch replied to skybytch's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Mark your calendars, make your plans... the Second Ever Star Farms Boogie/Paso Robles Skydiver Reunion is happening September 16th and 17th! Paso Robles is located on the central coast of California. It's about 40 miles north of San Luis Obispo and about the same distance east of the Pacific Ocean. There used to be a dropzone on the airport; it's where I learned to skydive and did most of my first 700 jumps. For various reasons we can't land on the airport so we'll be taking off from there and landing/partying/camping at Star Farms. Star Farms is an alfalfa ranch a few miles from the Paso Robles Airport. It was a favorite place for Paso skydivers to jump into at sunset. It's got a huge landing area, a swimmable (but NOT SWOOPABLE - trust me on this one) pond, a sandy beach area for sunbathing, camping space, clean bathrooms and showers, a big bbq area, a tiki bar, a trampoline, a log roll... And it's waaaay out in the country so we can party long, loud and late without worry! We'll have a PAC750XL to jump out of. We're working on getting load organizers for RW, freefly and wingsuits. We may even have a PD Tour rep with demo canopies. Paid packers will be on hand. $25 registration covers full use of the facilities for the weekend, beer and dinner Saturday night and transportation to the airport for each load. Jumps will be $22 to 13000 feet. Minimum USPA A license (or equivalent foreign license), current USPA (or equivalent foreign parachuting organization) membership and an in date reserve are required to jump. Tandem jumps for your whuffo friends and family may be available; please contact me if you're interested so we can arrange to have a tandem instructor and rig there. Other student jumps will NOT be offered or allowed (but non-licensed skydivers are of course welcome to come hang out and party with us). Be there!!! -
The sender is "Mark" - WTF, over? I'm tempted to email back just to find out what the scam is.

I put this on NCS but thought I'd throw it up here as well, just in case. I was looking through the lost and found box at Davis this morning and found a helmet with some (expensive) stuff in it. Checked with manifest and apparently no one has called about it. Since manifest won't hold lost stuff, I'm hanging on to it so it doesn't end up walking off the dz. If you lost/forgot/left laying around your helmet and other helmet-related (expensive) stuff, let me know what kind of helmet it is and what (expensive) stuff was inside the helmet and I'll arrange to get it back to ya.

My parents live in a mobile home park in Hemet; I just emailed my mom and asked her to ask around their neighborhood to see if anybody there needs a new little buddy or can help get the surgery he needs done. Wish I could do more...

4th of July fireworks..is it a big "thing"?
skybytch replied to SkydiveStMarys's topic in The Bonfire
The dz I jump at does a demo into the fireworks show in town, which is held on the athletic fields of the high school and spilling over into a neighboring park. Last year we put two PAC loads in. Arriving by parachute is the BEST way to get there! The fireworks show is pretty good too. I'm almost sorry I'm going to miss it this year. Anybody know if they do a 4th of July fireworks show in Valdez, Alaska? Answering the question more directly, one of the best professional fireworks shows I've seen was at a Giants game in The City. The best non-professional fireworks shows are done by bendywendy (who runs Skydive Sebastian). -
Nope, not in either direction. Arriving in Seattle at 11:15 am and leaving at 1:15 pm on the way up; arriving at 2:50 pm and leaving at 5:46pm on the way home. Dammit.

They use nets. Big honkin' nets that dump the fish on top of the heads of the crew. Thus the need for a stylish rubber fishermens hat.
-
Somehow I think they'll have at least one of those already on board.
-
Whoa. When I got the confirmation a couple weeks ago, July 2nd sounded so far away. All of a sudden it's only five more sleeps and I'm leaving on a jet plane. Scratch that - three jet planes. One from Sacramento to Seattle... another from Seattle to Anchorage... and another from Anchorage to Valdez. Then I'll make my way from the airport to the docks and find the F/V Kendal, which will be home for a week of (commercial) fishing on the Prince William Sound. So anyway, I need help packing. What items would you be sure to take along? I've already been told to buy the bottle for the Captain and one of those super stylish rubber fishermens hats when I get to Valdez. But what else other than clothes and bathroom stuff might I need???

100th Jump into the "Darkside?"

Have I told you lately that I love you, Nick? -
I'm confused. Why should the manufacturer have to send you a replacement when there is absolutely nothing they can do about the item not arriving yet?
