  1. Shhh... he thinks it's called special ed cuz he's special.
  2. The strap on wasn't my idea dammit!!!
  3. I know you. That doesn't make you any less strange, does it?
  4. skybytch

    Do you...

Other than "left" and "right", no. Someone else named them for me a few years ago. But he had no imagination; he named them both the same thing.
  5. Go for it. I dare ya.
  6. If it does, should I start another thread to brag that "my" thread caught on fire?
  7. Walt, you are truly the master of the obvious.
  8. Assume that you have friends (I know it's a stretch, but work with me). Now assume many of those friends play a lot of soccer (that's what us Yanks call football). When they aren't playing soccer, they watch soccer, talk about soccer and post about soccer in a forum on a website devoted to soccer. You, on the other hand, can take soccer or leave it. You tried it once but decided it wasn't for you. You consider an obsession with soccer to be strange and more than a little sad. After all, it's just a SPORT. There's far more to life than soccer, and these people don't seem to get that. But you also post on the forums on the soccer website, and have made more posts on those forums than many of the soccer-obsessed people have. Who's stranger? Them for being obsessed with soccer or you for posting on the forums of a website that is devoted to soccer? edited because Ian is a poophead. A logical poophead, but still a poophead.
  9. Actually, no I'm not. I eat on less than $30 a week. At today's gas prices the last car I had would cost more than that to drive to and from the last job I had. The kind that goes from the tap to the Nalgene isn't expensive at all. Remember, I'm a college student and a former "professional skydiver." I can make a nickel scream for mercy.
  10. I have a hybrid too. I call it "feet." I can walk on it or use it to ride my bike. And you wouldn't believe the kind of fuel mileage I'm getting. Seriously, though, when it's time for me to own a car again it will be a hybrid (and by then prices should be closer to those of "traditional" drivetrains). Good on ya for spending your money on something that produces less pollution (the fuel savings is, imho, a side benefit).
  11. This may or may not work well in your situation but anyway... I once worked for a guy who was sure that all ladies everywhere wanted him. He'd tell all of us about his exploits on a daily basis. So for April Fools day one year some of us sent him flowers at work with an unsigned note. It's been awhile so I forget exactly what we put on the note but the general impression was that "she" really really liked him. He spent the rest of the day trying to figure out which of his "lady friends" had sent it to him. It was nearly impossible to keep from laughing in his face as he debated the possible choices (ie all the women he'd ever line danced with at the local country western bar). He didn't believe us when we told him at the end of the day that we'd sent the flowers, not Betty or Jane or Mindy or...
  12. ''The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers.'' Or was it swoopers? Dammit, I never was very good at Shakespeare.
  13. Boxed, canned and jarred are shortcuts? Hm. That's the only way I know how to cook.
  14. It's gringo Mexican night here. Ground turkey and kidney beans in a spicy "taco" sauce, "spanish" rice from a box, grated cheddar cheese and salsa from a jar all wrapped up in flour tortillas. Yum. And there's always leftovers so tomorrow's lunch and dinner will be yum as well.
  15. My car was the victim of a hit and run when it was parked in the dz parking lot. But I learned something from it - now I make sure to park next to cars that I know are owned by skydivers instead of by fucking tandumb passengers. Yeah. I'd leave a note.
  16. A better resource might be Brian Germain. IIRC, he designed the canopies Airtime built. I could be wrong though.
  17. Ya gotta treat yourself once in awhile. All that denial is bad for the soul.
  18. 1992 Javelin - US$400 Sabre 150 - US$400-500 (Are the lines original? If so you'll probably want to reline it soon; US$200ish to have that done) MR150 - US$300-400 (Do NOT load this over 1.0 body weight - so if you weigh more than 150 pounds, it's not a good choice. They weren't designed to handle and don't land well at wingloadings higher than 1.0.) Cypres2 - US$1000 I wouldn't pay more than US$2300 for that rig.
  19. Heh. My favorite reply to that kind of comment was "So sorry your parachute opened. I'll try harder next time."
  20. Riggers or packers? Generally the people you see packing tandem and student canopies aren't riggers, they are packers being "supervised" by a rigger. Packers can pack mains, riggers can pack anything. Pay for packing mains depends on the dz. Figure $8-10 for a tandem and $4-6 for other mains. Pay for packing reserves depends on the dz, the loft, the rigger, the geographical area... I've seen prices for a reserve repack ranging from $35-75, but that doesn't always all go to the rigger doing the work.
  21. What she said. For me the best part of going to boogies is seeing friends and meeting new ones, not jumping. Best way to avoid landing area chaos is to not be in the landing area! I think LP is a great boogie to go to if you aren't into jumping so much right now. There's lots of non-jumping stuff to do - so much that many folks who do like to jump a lot at boogies take a day or two to go do other things. If you get talked into.... err I mean decide to come, bring your backpacking gear; Glacier Nat'l Park is a short drive from the dz.
  22. Y'know if she disowns you, you don't have to help pay for her to go college. I'd suggest getting you a weeme ASAP.
  23. It doesn't matter how many jumps you have. It doesn't matter if you're a belly flier, a freeflyer, a swooper or even a lowly non-licensed student. You too can be a world record holder. Heck, we can all be world record holders. C'mon everybody! Let's Thrill the World!
