HBD, East Coast!

Laugh all you want. The fact that this is the third time you've brought it up shows that it hit a nerve. You're right. You're better off staying at home. You wouldn't have fun traveling. Andrea, what a great story you're gonna have! Hope the rest of the trip sticks a bit closer to plan.

Travel expands your mind by - - taking you out of your comfort zone, forcing you to adapt to whatever comes along - exposing you to different cultures (food, music, daily life) - allowing you to experience places of awesome beauty and/or historical significance - meeting people who are completely different than you are... and realizing that they really aren't all that different from you after all You can't get any of that out of a book or a video.

All you Harry-haters can go ahead and close this thread now. There's nothing here for you, and we don't need you to tell us how wrong we are. So, whattaya think? Could Harry's scar be a horcrux? Why or why not? 24 days!!

2:2:1 It was a very excellent American Boogie for me. Two very fun nights of partying. Two very fun jumps with my favorite two way partner. Two very excellent landings on a new to me canopy. Damn it's good to be back in the air.

I'm a senior rigger. I also sold gear for a living for 7 years. I've had my Infinity since 2002. I love it. It's comfy, it looks good and the customer service from Velocity Sports kicks ass. My s/o is a master rigger. He's been jumping Wings for about the same amount of time. He loves them. They're comfy, they look good and the customer service from Sunrise is excellent. Depending on the length of your torso and the size of your canopies, you may find that the standard Wings (not the EXT version) will work better for you than an Infinity of the same container size. As someone else said, the Wings is "short and stubby;" in comparison, the same container size in an Infinity will be longer from top to bottom. Have you jumped either/both containers? That's the best way to decide which container is right for you...

Regardless of how you feel on this issue - signing a petition is great, but an even better way to influence the USPA decision making process would be to make sure that the regional director from your region knows your opinion. Talk to him/her at the dz, call, email... Also, send e-mails to the members of the S&T committee, since they'll probably be the ones addressing the issue. Quite a few people plan to attend the next USPA board meeting. If you can make it, show up. Several of us will be there wearing the t-shirt that is in the link in my sig line... The more people that voice their opinions on this issue to BOD members, the more likely it is that the BOD will do what the majority of skydivers would like to see.

My son went to a Montessori school for preschool and kindergarten. Both he and I liked it a lot. The only downside that I saw was the transition from there to public school. Going from that atmosphere to the typical "shut up and learn what's on the standardized test" public school atmosphere was no fun. We solved that by moving to a town that had much better public schools.

Consider it a form of silent charity. At least whoever is taking them out of the bins is doing some sort of work for the money.

To get it over with already. Not every woman can have 53 orgasms every night.

I think it's far better to improve your accuracy by adjusting your pattern than by using brakes or front risers on final. Keep the altitudes the same but move locations. Assuming constant wind conditions, if you're went long on your target on your last jump, move where you turn onto base that much farther downwind on your next jump.

Thank you. That is exactly the kind of info I'm looking for. No problem. Glad I could show you the error of your ways, mr-po-liceman.

Ah, thread drift. Aren't there a bunch of threads discussing the proposed BSR already? Does this one need to be turned into yet another rehash of what's being said in those threads? Simple questions. Does your dz have seperate landing areas? If not, your input doesn't add much to the point of this thread. If so, how are jumpers responding to the seperation? Who is tasked with speaking to those who refuse to land in the area designated for how they land? If that's you, how are jumpers responding to your attempts to educate them?
-
They will if those of us who do it take the time to explain to them what we are doing and why we are doing it. Which is where that whole "education" thing comes in. If everybody did it, we could all share the landing area without worrying about killing each other with our canopies...

Spending lots of time with Jack and TLML were about the only good things about that place. If only I could talk them into moving west.

Oooohhhh.... good idea! And there happens to be a range right next to the dz... If only I had something that would leave bigger holes than my .22 revolver will.

There is no possible way to convince me to ever live in Florida again. Which is why I want to get rid of the plate - having it here just reminds me of that year from hell...
-
I've got a Florida license plate sitting here. I recall paying $100 for the privilege of placing said plate upon my vehicle when I lived there. I also seem to recall hearing from somebody that when I was done with the plate I could give it back and they'd give me my $100 back. Is this true? If not, anybody got a good suggestion for what I should do with it?

Peer pressure. My friends are all very bad influences.
-
It's not only orderly and a thing of beauty, it's an excellent way to avoid canopy collisions...

You should be able to get screws (and springs and battery covers) at any L&B dealer. L&B will also send them directly to you; just shoot them an email.

Are you afraid of flying your canopy?
skybytch replied to Broke's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It's not a matter of time in sport or number of jumps. It's not inevitable that every jumper will want to swoop eventually. There are many very good canopy pilots who don't swoop and never will. There are also many people who would like to swoop but don't because for whatever reason the added risk that is involved in swooping is not something they can accept. I wish all skydivers could stay in the sport long enough to realize that how they land or what they do in freefall does not make them better skydivers than those who choose to fly their bodies and/or canopies differently. -
Are you afraid of flying your canopy?
skybytch replied to Broke's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I see canopy flight as a way to make freefall repeatable but that doesn't mean I'm afraid of flying my canopy. What I'm afraid of is the people who let their canopies fly them... -
I'm curious. For those who jump at dz's that are already implementing seperate landing areas, how is it going? Who gets to be the landing police at your dz? If that's you, what do you get for the hassle (besides lip/attitude/threats of legal action from those who think they are so special they can land wherever they want)? Are jumpers following the rule? Are other jumpers giving shit to those who don't follow the rule? How many are bitching about it? What is the biggest whine you've heard so far?

Day at the Races. Put streamers on two people who can fall straight down; they are the pylons. Everybody else races around the pylons. This can be done on bellies or freeflying. Totally random skydives. Give each jumper an assigned way to dock - i.e. Joe can only dock using his right hand, Bill can only dock on someone else's left leg, etc. The first point is deemed complete when everybody on the jump is docked in the correct way and everybody is docked on the formation (ie one formation, not 2 2-way pieces flying next to each other). For the next point(s), everybody must dock on someone else - no touching the same person they touched on the last point.
