I have 1124 jumps. I just downsized from a Spectre 170 at a wingloading of about 1.0 to a Spectre 150 at a wingloading of about 1.13. I like having a titanium free body.

I need help making a graceful exit
skybytch replied to sandyeggo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Don't figure out what you're doing wrong. See yourself doing it right. Over and over and over - yes, 100 times like cocheese suggests. Then when you get to the dz, do it right on the mockup. Over and over and over. Preferably with a knowledgeable person watching. Practicing the perfect exit on the ground, both mentally and physically, over and over and over, will almost guarantee a perfect exit in the air. And it's free. Other than that, pausing for a deep breath and a big smile (that's important) as the door is opening could help you to be relaxed as you climb out and exit. You want to be aggressive, yes, but you also want to be relaxed. If you aren't already, try "flying" your hands out to the strut. A hand that cuts through the wind is easier to move than is a hand that cups the wind. Don't give up! You can do this. -
Check out the Paso Robles area before you make your travel plans. The wineries in the area have been described as what Napa used to be. It's also only a 45 minute drive from the coast.

Timing is everything. Apparently yours sucks.

I haven't done the wine thing but I can say that if you come to the Napa/Sonoma area and don't visit me, my ghost will haunt you forever. And a day.

Yeah. I simply love the pleasures of having bad breath, stinky hair and clothes, a big ol' ugly monkey on my back... and the constant "you should quit" coming at me from all sides. Does anybody really think smokers ENJOY being addicted? Do you think that smokers don't KNOW each and every one of the health risks? Do you really think that each of us wouldn't love to go back to the day we smoked our first cigarette and "just say no" instead of lighting up and having our first coughing fit? Me too. More than anybody who's never smoked can ever imagine. Don't smoke is a great message but it's better aimed at the young, before the monkey has a chance to get a grip on them. Telling it to the long-term addicted is like telling someone they are fat and need to lose weight - non-productive and kinda sadistic.

We're not falling in freefall either - we're flying. Relative to each other, of course, but we're still flying.... If you want to do it bad enough, you'll find a way to afford what is needed. The smarter course would be to finish school and get a good job before learning to skydive though... it's way more fun when you can afford to do it as much as you want to.

Be ready for anything from 60 degrees in the fog to 90 degrees in the sun - ie shorts, shirt, pants, and a jacket/sweatshirt. And a 49er's hat.

Kevin Love quit the new Team X?

He wants to focus on speed riding right now. -
Border Collie and (we think) Dalmation. She's a great dog.

Not like one can on a high hop and pop or by pulling high on a solo. Yeah, I am. And don't call me Shirley. We all start with no rw jumps. If you know that someone has no rw jumps you design a dive accordingly, right? I don't see a difference between someone with 100 jumps and 10 rw jumps and someone with 40 jumps and 10 rw jumps... except for the fact that the one with 100 jumps is more likely to be able to pull off a stable exit and less likely to run into me under canopy.
-
And that potential isn't there when someone has 50 jumps? Chris has a good point. The more time any jumper spends working on canopy skills, the more likely they are to avoid titanium inserts. Canopy skills are survival skills. Concentrating on them early in someone's skydiving career is a good thing, imho.

Happy b-day Deedy! Go for a hike!

Talked to mom this morning; kid was off to pick her up then. Looks like she's gonna be okay.

8:1:0 8 - hours my sides hurt after seeing Carlos Mencia live. 1 - way fun jump on Saturday.

Those "silly" tasks? We call them survival skills. They're pretty important. If your overall goal is to stay alive, that is.
-
Sweet! Was a long road but you did it! Congrats! So when ya taking me flyin'?
-
Thank YOU for the sacrifices you are making for your country. I can't imagine how much it must suck to be over there wishing you were in the air. Hope you get back to the dz and back into freefall very soon!

College boys & Girls - lets hear your fall schedules

Honors Stats - with the same instructor I had for intermediate algebra; she's awesome so I expect this class to be a lot of fun. Advanced Comp - I just want to get this one over with. English classes take all the fun out of reading and writing... History of Asian Civilization - the first of two semesters. Looking forward to both of them; I know NOTHING about Asia's history. Geography 300 (and the lab) - I'm wait listed for this one; hope I get it. -
Thanks for the stories, guys. They do help - yeah, even yours Leah; I know Dixie's was caught early enough that her pancreas won't burst. Karen, I totally remember seeing Jonah at LP. Matter of fact, I have video of him diving for rocks down at the lake (never seen a dog dive like that before). You have a way cool dog.

My son's dog, Dixie, has been a part of our lives for ten years now. She'll be at the vet's for the next three-four days. They'll do three plasma transfusions and some other fluid therapy. They said it's life threatening, as did the website I found with info on the condition. Dixie's been my kids' best buddy since he was 13. He's not ready to lose her. I'm not ready to deal with him losing her, especially from this many miles away. So I have to stay positive! If anybody has one, I would really appreciate reading a few stories of how other people's dogs with pancreatitis were just fine after treatment... Thanks. btw, don't feed your dog people food and don't let your dog get overweight! By not doing so you'll likely prevent a lot of future pain and suffering for both your dog and yourself. I wish now that I'd pitched a much bigger fit when I realized my mom was overfeeding her...

I try.

You mean other than jump out of airplanes? Be a former world record holder. Go to college with the goal of getting one or more post-grad degrees. Although I must say that neither the world record nor going back to school would have happened had I not dreamed it... because I know that great things don't happen if you don't dream about making them happen. But for this post I'm assuming that you meant things I never thought I'd do when I was a kid.
