And the only way to figure out how much brakes/riser input to give is to go up and play with your canopy. Using the accuracy trick, see how different amounts of brake or riser input affect how much or little penetration you are getting in various wind conditions. Hot tip for comfort while flying in deep brakes - if your rig has hip rings, hook your thumbs in them. You can harness steer if needed. No more tired arms!

And another part of skydiving's history has left the building. BSBD Al. Thanks for the conversations.

Personally, I wouldn't load any pre-1990 F111 canopy over 1.0. They weren't built to handle it. But I am assuming that "manf 7ish" means pre-1990. Nor would I recommend that anybody with the OP's jump numbers load any reserve over about 1.0. Reserves should be sized for worst case scenarios - sunset into someone's backyard, not midday landing in the main landing area. As for Super Ravens, sure they "can" be landed just fine at higher wingloadings, but it takes skill. Seem far too many people who don't have the skill and several who do have the skill stall them on landing. Tailbones are precious, I see no need to bust one on landing. imho, of course. YMMV.

Depends. If you are more than about 160 pounds body weight you shouldn't keep either one. They are both older designs that weren't meant to be loaded over about 1.0. If you're less than 160 pounds, I'd suggest keeping the newer one.

See. You knew you were the right candidate for the job. Congrats!

... gonna go for a hike, drink some MonaVie, jump out of a plane, hang out with the broken one, get intoxicated, have sex, buy a textbook and do my stats and english homework.

Skydive Oregon: All Of The Above Boogie!

I wanna know who won. Knowing both of them, I'm sure it had to be close. -
So you don't want those two joints, I take it?
-
Nervous? Why? You've done the job interview thing before. You know you're the best candidate for the job. Make those butterflies fly in formation and go kick some ass!
-
Smoke two joints.

You'll find loads of information on how to go about choosing your equipment here. There are a few items you could buy now and use on your student jumps. Having your own pair of (clear, not tinted) goggles and maybe a pair of gloves isn't a bad idea - that way you're only wearing your sweat instead of someone else's. If you've decided where you'll be doing your student jumps you might contact them and ask if you would be allowed to use your own altimeter and/or helmet (most dz's will only let you use a Protec on your student jumps, but Protecs are pretty cheap).

If you're referring to the incident where a Cypres fired mid-swoop, that was not a "problem of their design." The Cypres was designed LONG before anybody was exceeding activation speeds under canopy. People who knowingly exceed activation speeds under canopy - and really, if we're gonna have one in our rig we should know what those speeds are - are taking on additional risk for themselves. Kind of like if you overload a reserve and it blows up on opening. Not really the manufacturers problem - you're the one who chose to exceed the limits.

He puts up with me stealing the covers. I put up with whiskers all over the bathroom sink that I just fucking cleaned yesterday. It all works out.
-
Yes, but in this case the opinion of skymama means far more than does the opinion of you, me or anyone else who's screenname isn't green or... (when you really fuck up) red.

I don't trust anybody I jump with. My safety in the air is up to me.

Two spiders? And took the trash out? And fixed the vacuum? All in one day?!?? Steak and a BJ, hell. That's damn near anal sex worthy!
-
Men are good for taking out the trash, killing spiders and fixing things that I don't feel like fixing. Oh, and the penis. The penis is a nice bonus.

HBD2U. Hope it's a great day, Chris!

If it weren't for the ridiculous price of textbooks I'd agree with you 100%. Jaye - wait 'til this time next year when I'm crowing about my first day at the big kid's college.

"Jump or ride the plane down?" I had that debate with myself on every plane ride until I had well over 50 jumps. You'll get over it. Just keep jumping.
-
Well deserved recognition. Jim's been giving back to this sport for longer than most jumpers have been alive, and he still sports a huge grin in the air. Congrats Jim!

Yes. Mechanical and electronic devices can and do fail, usually at the worst possible time. Which is why the best altitude sensing device is and always will be your eyes. Good job pulling on time.
