its a good tip to find out the stall point of your canopy - while up HIGH, wrap the lines as andy suggests and hold the flair until the canopy starts to collaps. It'll scare the shit out of you but is a great learning process.

Are argument is that you ought not jump a reserve that is a very different size to you main. If you are in the position of having two canopies out (then firstly you should consider leaving the sport cos your a dumbass) having two very different sized canopies will make you life drastically more difficult. Check out the PD website for their two canopy out evaluations. Therefore if your on a small main, the disadvantages of a small reserve may be outweighed by the disadvantages of a reserve thats much bigger than your main. Then again, I would just say, get a big reserve damnit, its your last fucking chance, why dick with it. If your worried about 2 out dont fucking pull low.

Its not that I think that its nessasery - it just saves ££ on customs and postage. (just remeber to have different friends carry the rig and recipt or post the recipt). "Yes sir, I took this rig out with me, I've had it for ages..."

just roll your shoulders to get clean air onto it. I hate spring-loadeds as it caused my first (kind of) mal. Student jump, canopy opened fine the but heavy metal spring caused the pilot chute to fall over the front of the canopy and back through the lines. It caused half of center cell and half of the cell to its left to collapse a little. I considered it flyable so rode it down. No toggle turns and a straight in approach meant that I was fine appart from a really heavy landing as nothing much happened when I flaired. I was told that it often happens and the DZ was logging every such incident for evaluation. They wrote down my weight and noted which kit I was using. Some of their rigs had a new lighter metal spring which was less prone to this but I was on one with a heavy bastard.

dont just buy european cos your in europe. Buy whatever you consider to be the best rig. Skydiving is a world market and there are supprisingly few barriers to buying overseas if you are willing to do a little juggling. My fave way is to get a friend/local team/DZ staff to bring back gear for you when they come back from overseas hols - its called the "beer for gear exchange system".

crap I could base that first one with my snevely old saber - what the hell is wrong with that job "hey mat you got your safety harness on" "shit yeah.... 3 2 1 BAAASSSSEEEEE"

ok - can I open these attachments at work without getting the sack? I have far too much lurking on my work pc after looking at pics on these forums as it is... Is the man of the year "gifted" in some way? or is he just a very very nice man who helps grannies and bunny rabbits etc?

Faber you should write a book about your experiances in england.... oh ok maybe just write in to the letters section of Gaytimes. That story cracks me up British jumpers really do know how to have fun when not jumping - after all we get the most practice with all those times when on weather hold.

Think of the soldier that shot the guy - he was ok to do his duty and protect himself from what he perceived to be an RPG but think how he must feel knowing he killed an innocent reporter. He will live with that for the rest of his life.

im in the process of organising a demo into my old high school. It'll be my first so Im happy that its litterally under the jump run of a good DZ (should get ordinary ticket cost) and the landing area is about the same size as the student area at my home DZ so not even any hazzards.

Freeflying. Is it "the death of skydiving"?
mr2mk1g replied to psychoswooper's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Doesn't Olaf say that Free Flying is about total body control and being able to do anything in any position in the air? That means on your head, on your arse, on your belly - whatever. The true definition of FF should therefore be the ability to control yourself in ANY position. Many FFers neglect their belly skills. Perhaps there should be a new name for being able to fly in sit/stand/head-down but being a turky on your belly. -
Freeflying. Is it "the death of skydiving"?

but then AFF prices go up through the roof - they are already so high that most people dont even contemplate the sport -
its the canopy - the ZP - theres nothing like it. "I love the smell of ZP in the morning" I have a rig rack with 5 rigs on it (house full of skydivers) thats close to where I do my ironing in the morning, and theres nothing like a quick sniff of that lovely ZP before heading off to work - torture

I dont think its inevitable that you will cork at some point during learning to FF - unless your a dumbass or no-one has ever told you about it. You've done the right thing to ask about it, and now you know what it is, (see above). simple answer is DONT. People cork when they are learning sit because all they have done before is flat fly. So if they go unstable they revert to a stable spred and go belly to earht. DONT. You have to get it ingrained in your head that if you go unstable go into a ball - simply curl up into a foetal position, then try to get back into sit from that. That way you will stay at relatively the same fall rate to everyone else and wont be a danger. Simply run through the dive a lot in you mind before going up so that you are sure you will go into a ball instead of reverting to an arch.

just make a pillow with a toggle on the end like used in RAPS dummy pull training. Simply stuff that inside an ordinary rig and practice with that.

two friends had a packing race whilst shitfaced and jumped each others efforts the next day about 2 years ago. They worked so I guess thats a testiment to how much you can do to a canopy before it wont open and to their muscle memory.
-
why do you think one end cell is black?? - they arent made that way, thats fricktion burns that is!!
-
welcome to skydiving... theres ALWAYS something new on our list to buy.

be a double agent and give sean a call, let him in on the joke and get him to take your mate up on his proposals - will be even funnier to for your mates joke to blow up in his face.

ooh sorry, ought to point out that that price might have been a special deal we cut cos we got half our club covered at once (about 20 people). Numbers give you buying power. sorry
