  1. Yep - lovely rifle - 10 round magazine, bolt action and a simply gorgeous stock. The sight goes up to 3000 yards (says a lot) and flips up to be the sight for rifle grenades. Damn heavy to aim with the bayonet on the end though. Should have been on e-bay a couple of months back - I sold off 2 SMLE bayonets (amongst others) for jump tickets.
  2. which one? the SMLE or the Martini Henry?
  3. A beautiful 1916 SMLE MkIII* that saw active service on the Western Front and the associated 14" bayonet issued to the Grenadier Guards, Britain’s foremost Infantry Regiment. A 1879 Martini Henri that saw active service in Africa A Single barrel Damascus 12 Bore (Gauge to you yanks) shot gun with an interesting 4/10 chamber converter. A double barrel Damascus 12 Bore shot gun. Pistols and automatics are illigal here.
  4. ehem... In Before The Lock!
  5. may god have mercy on its soul Did crazy Ivan ever get the joke???
  6. sometimes I worry myself.... but I dont let that worry me.
  7. prety good - we all do basically the same thing, and you may be supprised that no matter how many jumps people have we all do most of what you do. I visualise emergancy drills, both in FF and under canopy. I visualise aircraft emergancy's both above and below 1,500ft. I visualise what Im gonna do on my dive, both during FF and including landing patern and wind direction. I enjoy the view - pos taking reference of cloud hight (which really paid dividends last weekend). None of this should spoil the ride and it will all make your life a lot safer. You have no doubt already realised that imagining your dive REALLY helps - NEVER stop, even after student status - I see people with thousands of jumps do it and I always find it a benefit.
  8. yeah I fully take the point - I was worried myself that may be one of the pos consequenses.
  9. Im in the UK and notice that while perhaps 80% of the posters are in the US, DZ.com has a very big UK, EU and world following - how about a home for us on DZ.com??
  10. If you put goggles first its also in price order - considering how horrid borrowed goggles always are, that might not be a bad idea either
  11. SkydiveUWE Club Trip 2003 "UWE does Perris" in all good kit stores later this fall priced only $9.99 Damn no adverts... thats right. er there's some good ones about swooping and stuff, er PD canopies flying down a mountain... Norwegen Cronicles is very good... er...
  12. Ok now I love tracking dives - but the last 3 I have done (last weekend) I ended up about a mile away from the DZ and sure I was gonna land off. Each time I just make it back into the top corner of the airfield on the rear risers all the way. thats the last two weekends now - not a single bit of canopy time when Im not either on the rear risers or on final. Any ideas from people how to keep your tracking dive close to the DZ. We go to great lengths to stay safe but close - eg we have a hair who is directed by the hounds and track 90 off the jump run then turn back parallel to the jump run into wind to try and stay close. Any tips?? I like my canopy time goddamnit.
  13. Step 1: Ask about flat turns Step 2: Practice flat turns Too many people know more about hook turns than flat turns. I want to see DZ's teaching flat turns on their AFF courses. I know some do but not nearly enough.
  14. I had a tension knot mal (no cutaway) about a month ago. Jumping a borrowed Saber 170 in a Vector II because some one else wanted to borrow my rig. When I unstowed the breaks the canopy dove hard to the left - right toggle pressure returned me to level flight. On looking up I can see that the left break line is all twisted round the left hand rear line set and no ammount of pulling would clear it. I was now at 1000ft and under a big square canopy which I was flying in about 3/4 breaks. I decided to keep it because I could control it and could predict how it would land. I therefore flew with essentially flat turns by inceasing or decreasing RH toggle input. Only just made it back to the DZ because of the fairly deap break setting I had to use to maintain level flight. The final flat turn I used to turn back into wind actaully turned out to be more of a hook turn (again cos of the fairly deap breaks), but I was nice and high. On landing I gave a really hard flare, whilst keeping the toggles at thier relative hights they were at for level flight. I guess because of the hard flare the damn tension knot came free and the left hand side of the canopy surged a little on landing before I could compensate with more toggle pressure. A good PLF to finish and I was down safely if a little roughly. The guy who packed this is a very good packer used to jumping radical, highly eliptical canopies and I would trust his pack jobs any day. What had apparently happened was someone had stepped over the lines half way through the pack job and kicked them by accident. (we've all been on the receiving end of that right?) My friend had just pulled the lines straight again and continued with the pack job (again I'm sure we've all done that before). We figured this must have caused the break line to become wrapped arround some of the suspension lines, or at least some ammount of confussion in the lines to be created. The result was the offending tension knot. Interesting experiance.
  15. my 92 is fully FF safe although slightly modded by its previous owner. it really ought to be fine - just ask you rigger if your unsure and certainly on a 99 any mods that he thinks nes will be very minor
  16. inside grippers are used for RW but I suppose they would create a bit more drag - thats NOT their purpose though. If you want a slow suit - simply order one. They come in all sizes and designs and there are loads on the market specifically designed to slow you down. EG symbiosis do a SLOW PO which is bloused and has a ZP lining in the front - has a massive effect on fall rate and will give you so much more control Booties are basically a flared lower leg which hooks over the front of your foot so to create a mini kinda wing on your lower leg - they give you a very powerful track and a great deal of control in RW - GET THEM!!! - most people will consider them an ABSOLUTE MUST. I cannot overstate that. Some firms now offer megga booties (just bigger booties that go from the knea to the foot rather than the shin) - the jury's still out on the use of them - (whether theres any point or not)... I have no exp with them so ask someone else.
  17. I have a good friend who is tall and VERY skinng. He has had a lung collapse on him twice now, a few years back. Once while hill climbing and the second time when he wasn’t even doing anything. That was a few years ago. He currently has about 300 jumps and has never experienced a problem with his lungs. Get it checked out first but a collapsed lung doesn’t seem to necessarily mean the death of jumping
  18. Well... I fired off a few e-mail to them over the last couple of weeks - still no reply I got a reply from Sun Rise rigging who make the Wings container within minutes. I just ordered a Wings... nuf said
  19. yeah its cos the rig does not fit - I found it best to keep the leg strap as tight as is comfortable - its the best way to minimse opening shock

    2fat2fall ?

two tickets to altitude please... one for me and one for my ass
  21. I have heard a lot of people say that they would only ever want a PD reserve. For example, I am told that the Raven has an inherant slow left turn (god knows how) and that there are other issues with other brands. Now NONE of that is personal knowledge, but when Im told this by DZ staff and people with a lot of jumps I guess theres got to be something behind it. Personally though... how on earth do you manage to design a canopy with an inbuilt turn and sell it like that?? Doesnt seem plausable to me. Anyone else heard this? or any other stories about reserves??
