  1. maybe we should incorperate that little speech into SL training for the count after exit?
  2. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!
  3. hmmm thats interesting, i'll try paying attention to my body position under my opening sabre 1. I find I almost always get very bad end cell closure on one side of the canopy which causes it to dive off to that side slightly on opening. Maybe thats the cause of it.
  4. one of our club rigs has a very hard pull - it has had its spandex pocket replaced as the old one got too worn. I jumped it a week ago and took about at least 500ft to pull the damn thing. Now Im no small bloke and I knew it was gonna be a hard pull. We have sought advice about this and have been shown a way to fold the pilot chute so its very small so is as easy as possible to pull. other than that we have been advised just to wait as the spandex will become worn and easier. Remember, you dont want your boc pocket too loose or your pilot chute could work out in FF and cause a premature
  5. boy meets girl, boy likes girl, girl tells boy to stop skydiving, boy tells girl to get lost. its an old story, told time over...
  6. You americans - we have to wait till we have 1000 jumps in the UK to have a D license
  7. No one will ever get fed up with questions - matter how dumb (or at least they shouldnt) (ok so at least they shouldnt let you know they are). So much of this sport is about sharing knowledge, at every level. Anyone worth their salt will always be happy to help you with whatever questions you have, here, at the DZ or in the bar.
  8. As a newbie you: try once, try twice, go to your reserve When you get a bit more experiance you might be able to start messing arround if you have the altitude but under a couple of thou jumps do that, and only that.

    Flame FF pants

I just ordered them on line at http://www.kurupee.com/ They have quite a nice online designer and secure payment system. I only ordered them a week ago so I havent recieved them yet - but then they only estimate a 3 week wait. I copied the following contact details from their web site Hope that helps, I'll let you know how good the pants are when I get them.
  10. never mind, it was only bourbon, now if it was scotch.... flame me all you like
  11. I was advised by a master rigger to avoid a monkeys fist. Apparently the extra weight can make it oscilate in the airflow when in FF thus working the pilot chute out of the pocket. I told him i didnt care, felt my boc pocket was nice and tight and wanted one - he felt so strongly he wouldnt fit one and told me the dz shop wouldnt stock them. Had to buy a hacky - that said got a cool hacky of his own design which has wire mesh inside it so is light but very stiff so kinda combines the best bits of both. That said im getting a monkeys fist when i next upgrade
  12. I have a friend who flies a win suit. Last year he was in on the world reccord breaking bigway birdman flocking dive in sweeden. During the warm up jumps he filmed a guy exit the tailgate of the herc and cos of the forward speed he got from the plane he was actually able to climb above the herc. Its an awsome bit of footage - my mate is stood on the tail looking out and you litterally see the guy exit and drop before climbing back up out out of the top of the shot.
  13. the most fun I ever had under canopy was when I got my new one and opened up at 6k to play with it. Was broken cloud so flew through the breaks in the cloud like flying down canyons, following their twists and turns.
  14. have done two at 12500 agl at perris which is 1500 asl so thats 1400 asl - man it was windy up there.
  15. my bad - had heard it was - perhaps its just in the pipeline
  16. heard many official reports of that B4 - also done my own "scientific" research into the subject involving alcohol
  17. I dont have food in my fridge - however I always make sure I have plenty of canned stuff in my "DZ box" - an old beer box filled with tinned beens, all-day-breakfasts and camp stoves that sits next to my tent and sleeping bag, just at the other end of the room to my rig rack (yes I just had to build one - fyi the best way is to bolt table legs to the wall)
  18. what exactly is the club rule where you are going? I know a lot of DZ's now that want you to have a cypres - its even mandatory in some countries eg spain. If its the club rule that you must have a cypres it doesnt matter what container you have or where you from thats just their rule. Ive not come across any DZ's that have a problem with SA gear in its self before.
  19. re benchmade 5 Im having a knife and both types of holder and some scrap webbing sent to me to have a look at. I'll let you all know which pouch I'd use and how good at cutting it is. I also have both a crappy plastic knife and a "safetyknife" - see above for link - so can compare to both.
  20. great birthday weekend thanks, took part in a big way on my b-day which equalled (sadly didn’t beat) the national collegiate record. Then on the Sunday did a jump which got me qualified as a cat10. Beautiful weather here at the mo too
  21. The DZ would have been totally liable. Employers are liable for negligent acts performed by employees in the course of thier duties - its called vicarious liability. The DZ hired the packer so you (or your estate ) would have sued the DZ had anything happened. Would still depend on what country you were in and what sort of waiver you signed/were legally allowed to sign though. But I think it would be dificult for the DZ to be able to escape liability under the circumstances - just so long as you could PROVE that it was a negligent pack job, which may well have been dificult if it went in.
  22. running down the stairs with your arms behind you in a max track
  23. all fully qualified now - makes you wonder doesnt it...
  24. yes mate, it is true - in the uk there are much more strict rules re free flying. You do have to have at least cat10 b4 free flying and then it may only be with someone with ff1 so they can coach you. In the us you can pretty much do what you want. Virtually everyone reccomends getting your flat up to standard b4 freeflying anyway though so go ahead and get doing RW.
