  1. basically yeah although its precice application varies a little from DZ to DZ. 50 jumps for B licence. technically 100 jumps and B licence for hard helmet/full face.
  2. thats kinda my point - perhaps we should add "be a member of a licensing organisation and carry 3rd party insurance"
  3. lazyfrog students can jump under supervision. there are lots of posts on here about US jumpers with 60+ jumps and still unlicensed zeemax and vt1977 actual rule reads something along the lines of "a hard shell helmet" but has been interpreted to mean a full face. Technically you're not supposed to wear any hard shelled helmet until B licence. velo90 "HD" is a reference to Head Down. what I said is not quite true but FF2 is basically that qualification
  4. Is it compulsory in the states for jumpers to: Wear a helmet? Wear an alti? Wear shoes? Carry a hook knife? Get a pin check? Have an “A” licence or above to jump? Get a specific qualification for to jump with others? Get a specific qualification to do Freeflying? Get a specific qualification to do HD? Get a specific qualification to do CRW? Get a specific qualification to do Skysurfing? Have at least 100 jumps and B licence before jumping anything other than a pro-tec? Have at least 200 and C licence before jumping camera? Have at least 1000 jumps for a D licence? Have a specified number of jumps before landing in the accuracy area? Carry out flight line checks? Be licensed to perform a flight line check? Spot? Be licensed to spot? Cos all of those are requirements in the UK.... some DZ's in America may ask for them, but they are not National requirements. Guess we must have a death wish.
  5. I happily dropped $200 on a 50% off voucher that saved me arround $800. They are a comodity that has an easily quantifiable value, thus little different from any other type of goods that we trade. They are usually (AFAIK) obtained through raffles at boogies - obtaining them is random chance and its a prize. I don't see an inssue with the recipiant of that random chance prize benefiting from it either through using the voucher themselves or selling it on. By custom they are sold at a price that allows both the buyer to benifit (I saved about $800) and the seller (he made $200). I think this is great and is simply spreading the wealth. Both parties benefit. Now if people are starting to sell these for actual retail value... then thats a bit mean spirited. The person who wins the voucher in that scenario gets all the benefit. If they sell it at a fraction of the actual cost they get some benefit and the buyer gets some benefit - everyone's happy, the wealth is spread, its one big skydiving brotherhood. If the winner just gives it away, then again - only one person benefits.
  6. yep - thats one of the other ones I've seen. There's at least 1 more that I've found in the english speaking world and I stumbled on one in Czechoslovakian so there are probably loads more out there that google doesnt throw up.
  7. ooooo me likey. I know where to come when I need some new pants cos they suit my patern scheme nicely.
  8. Cotton it is then. They're kurupee to go with the kurupee pants I bought last year. Ordering today along with 6 other friends for bulk postage. cheers all
  9. if you want a serious answer to this.... oh my god I can't believe this is even an issue... have you not heard of all those crappy European directives and regulations that plague our lives about everything, all in the name of keeping us safe. We're not alowed bull bars on pick ups cos they kill people, were not alowed pop up headlights cos they kill people, our banana's must have the right amount of bend in them or they're iligal, our chocolate must have the right amount of fat in it or its iligal, everything, absolutely everything is regulated to keep us safer. America does not have a clue about regulations and safty by comparison to the endless amount of crap the EU beurocratic machines pour out each year. We are innundated with legislation that keeps us safe. Do we have a death wish? by the sounds of it the polititions think we have because they are continuously trying to save us...
  10. It must be the pretty colours he loves as no one actaully knows how it flys yet. There have been little or no reviews and the canopy was only opened up to the public a couple of weeks ago. I can't believe anyone knows anything concrete about it in russia. Get your rigger to colour in something square for you and jump that. You'll look just as pretty and we'll all still want to be you.
  11. Im ordering a FF jumpsuit, I weigh 185lb. Had orriginally planned it in Cotton to slow me down but I'm having second thoughts cos taslan (aka suplex) is much harder wearing and will last longer... what do you reckon I should order it in?
  12. or just cut off one end (just after the hinge) and keep it. If you ever need to you can super glue it back on.
  13. Its a homage to my colour scheme as I have a flame painted helmet, flame paterned FF pants, flames on my FF suit, and a red and yellow tie-dye rig. I keep meaning to replace it with a better picture or at least one of me...
  14. I just get the feeling that some things (such as pounding the crap out of something that just bit you) are satisfying irrespective of some of their ulterior consequenses
  15. it'd probably make me feel a little better though
  16. go directly to airtec in germany. Its cheaper than sending it to an intermediary such as thomas sports and it avoids the hassle of customs when sending it to SSK in the US. As the cypres never leaves europe there's no paperwork to worry about.
  17. I'll tell you what I'd do if some damn fish attached its self to me - I'd make a fist and start smacking the crap out of its head till it either let go or dropped appart. You can only imagine what was going through the fishes head though... "oh boy, I gotta big one here - the guys are gonna think this is sooo cool...."
  18. The way it was explaned to me is that a reserve may only be installed under UK regs in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. If the manufactuer says you can only install it on PD Slinks then by installing it on any other type of slinks you are doing so contrary to manfacturers instructions. Apparently installing a reserve contrary to manufactuers instructions is a no-no under UK regs and a rigger can get himself up shit creak. But I'm the first to admit that I don't know, I'm not a rigger - the above comes soley from a convo with my rigger. I can tell you what I think about the possbile legal consequenses of installing a canopy contrary to the manufacturers specific instructions - should something happen in consequence of that installation of course.
  19. I looked into this for my old rig. I got some comprehensive responses the gyst of which were: Basically don’t put any kind of colouring agent onto your rig. If the rigger cannot be sure of what chemicals have been in contact with the container they cannot guarantee that its serviceable. Just such an example was sent back to the factory (sunpath) and they said, “we did not receive this rig, we did not see this rig, we do not know it exists, we will not knowingly sell parts for this rig, this never happened”. You will run a very real risk of grounding your own container by colouring it in with anything because riggers wont/shouldn’t re-pack it.
  20. Its also important to note that they are canopy specifit. PD reserves should only ever be installed on PD Slinks, PdF on PdF ones etc. I don't see that its a safety thing in that they won't work - but the manufacturer says you "must" so you must or the rigger is breaking the rules and running a risk. (had a long chat with my rigger about this exact issue late last week - apparently one of the local riggers is going to get into deap shit cos they're installing canopies on any old reserve slinks.). There's no such issue with rapide links.
  21. I would put good money on the Royal lens and the way cool lens being exactly the same optics. There are a couple of others out there selling exactly the same thing. I bet they are all the same lens in different packets/mountings. It just seems a little convenient that they are all low profile, 0.3 lenses at virtually the same price.
  22. I actually remember reading some theoretica reseach on that exact question purportedly by NASA. I cannot say that it was genuine but I remeber reading that if we got a bigway of X then the vertical decent speed would be low enough to land. I'll try finding it - bonus points if anyone else can too.
  23. Each individual jumper disturbs the air as they move through it - this disturbed air "fills" the gaps between people to some extent, creating the effect of a virtually solid mass. This mass has a much greater surface area than the sum of each jumpers surface area.
  24. People wear weight belts to match freefall speeds with their friends. If you are light and your mate is heavy your mate will fall faster than you. If you want to fall with them you have to make yourself heavier. No drogue cos you can do less (only solo flat) and they introduce a lot of dangers. Imagine getting tangled up in somone elses drogue... or two people flying close and having their drogues tangle....
