  5. If he is the guy I am thinking about, late 40's early 50's, brown hair with gray and a beard, he went in several years ago. Don't remember the details of what happened. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  7. A couple of things that have not been mentioned. The "Time of Useful consciousness" tables were designed with the body at rest. As the work load goes up the time goes down. Even a moderate work load, moving around in the plane, can cut the time in half. This is even more pronounced the higher you go. Going to altitudes above 18,000 MSL is a lot like Scuba diving. At 20,000 MSL atmospheric pressure is only 6.76 PSI. At this altitude and pressure nitrogen can be released into the body by the blood. (bends) This to gets worse with work load and higher altitudes. Going above 18,000 MSL should be preceded with a period of "pre-breathing" 100 percent O2 from a closed system, sealed mask. The amount of time depends on target altitude. This is to purge the nitrogen form the system. Jumping from above 18,000 MSL is not just another skydive and can be extremely dangerous. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. Where the load is a "peel" to the joint you would use a confluence rap. This is where you wrap the two pieces of say Type VII with Type XII and then stitch it. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  11. The use of this technology probably won't add much to the cost a new rig. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  12. With 5 cord it takes about 25 inches of stitching (at 6 spi) in Type VII webbing to make the joint match the strength of the webbing. With E thread it would take around 66 inches of stitching (at 9 spi) to do the same thing. That would make a 4 point joint go from around 4 in. to over 8 in. in length. I hope this helps. 13. The regulations are different in different countries. If your certificate was issued by the same authority as mine, it would be easier to tell if we are on the same page. From your profile I will assume you do not hold a riggers certificate issued by the FAA (US) and I am not familiar with the regulations in Israel. 14. They have been approved for 16 flight with the FAA on board to observe. When they will take place, I don't know. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  15. Not true. If one can't land a heavily loaded canopy (and I include, as an example, a 2.2:1 or heavier crossbraced) straight-in with no riser input, then they need to work on their tehnique or go back to a bigger canopy. No one said anything about riser landings. I think Vibeke meant, speed is needed for a better flare and a flare can be done with toggles if I remember right. 20. With your body, you don't need a dress to look slim. But I would still go with the black, form-fitting, back reveling, slit up the leg "What do you think of me now" black number.
  21. You are right that oscillation is caused by a build up of pressure in the canopy. It will tilt to one side, spill air and then the load will swing back the other way and the canopy will spill air on the other side. Unless the apex opening was big enough to allow the same amount of air out through the top as is coming in the bottom you will have a pressure build up. This will vent under the skirt through oscillation. Also the amount of pressure build up will vary with the amount of load so apex opening would have to be changed for each change in load. A round canopy get forward seed by this pressure escaping through steering mod. to the back of the canopy. By closing off the mod. on one side of the canopy more air will escape from the other side, causing the canopy to turn. I hope this helps. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  22. Actually no, stall fences are both cases. The one you showed is a full leading to trailing edge fence. This was quite common with MiGs. (check out this for some of a MiG-19). The picture I gave is of an Embraer 140 and it, in fact, is a leading edge fence...feel free to contact them to ask. Leading edge fences are actually quite common on airlines these days, even more so on business jets. Thanks, I was not aware of the leading edge type. 23. I am not a "non-jumper". I have been at this longer then you have and will probably be at it long after you are done. You are not interested in listening to the logic of what anyone has to say and lack the knowledge to understand the dangers of the sport. I suggest you take you rig, jump the dog shit out of it and enjoy. In between jumps, if you have time, look up the word, Troll. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  24. I believe what you have pointed out in your picture is for preventing the nav light from blinding the pilot. A stall fence runs from the leading edge of the wing to the trailing edge. Stall fence Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  25. If you are outside and your home is on fire, there is nothing inside worth going back for. During a 30 year career as a firefighter I put way too many people in bags that went back in for something they thought they could not live without. They were right.
