  1. Air Tec offers $60.00 trade in for a cypres 1 when purchasing a cypres 2. Contact me (PM) before you trade yours in. Have I got a deal for you. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. Thank you. Most of the time, neither do I. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  4. I think a hanging harness is a big plus when learning or practicing EP. The one I have seen and others I built are pretty simple. The harness is just like a regular harness, but instead of risers hooking to the harness with a harness ring, the risers are part of the harness. I make them 4' long and about 6 to 8" from the harness attach the large ring. About 15/18" inches above that I sew in the 2 riser rings, loop and a tab with a grommet. Then it is just a matter of routing the cable and housing for the cutaway and the reserve ripcord. When rigged and then pulled, the jumper drops about 8". With someone shaking the shit out them from behind and screaming at them it is a little more realistic. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. Edward, Thank you for the information. Now I will end spending a couple of days at the shop hanging every canopy I can find and measuring. Thats what happens when you anal. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. OK I was gonna let that go...But what they hell does that mean? I have had plenty of people tell me to stick things up my ass, but I don't get the marshmallow part It's secrete rigger shit. I could tell you but then............
  7. You can give it a try, but like Larry said, the nylon material does not take dye very well. I would go with the warm water and big pot. Does the canopy have any markings on it? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. BB, That very well could be true. But this is the first time it has happened on either cypres. One is DOM 6/95 and the one with the dead batteries is 5/97. I am going to start turning it off and see what happens. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  9. Hmmmmm.....Coming up with an answer might be tougher that it looked. You are one of the guys I was counting on knowing. When I make King, all this will change.
  10. Like Terry said, dying a nylon product is tough. The webbing, cordura and the tape are all dyed while still in the fiber stage, before it is woven into fabric. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  11. I just replaced the batteries in my cypres after the ones in the unit went dead after 16 month. This is the first time I have had this happen. I would consider myself a weekend jumper, in that 16 months I made about 200+ jumps. I turn it on when I get to the DZ and let it shut itself off. That is usually only 3 to 4 hours after I finnish jumping. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  12. Bushman, Could you explain the method PD uses to measure the sq. ft. of their canopies and how it differs from other manufactures? I am sure this would be valuable knowledge to many who post here. (myself included) Thanks, Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. It is your choice at to what you log and if you get jumps signed off. But because you choose not to, does not mean have a complete logbook with signatures is "pointless" to others. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  14. ...actually, a source I find to be very reliable indicates that both Enoch and Elijah survived this life...but they may be coming back to finish that according to some... Now, back on topic. I have been right at the maximum, but am slightly below it now due to advancing jump numbers. By the very act of participating in this sport, the participant usually must have a nature which can supply the confidence and bravado that allows them to continue. In my experience, youth tends to serve up more bravado than confidence... at least it did for me. It was always a hard sell for instructors to convince me to take time to slow down and learn to do things extremely well before building on the foundation. As many of the more experienced people in this sport have lamented, all the young hot shots believe themselves to be the exception. The more empathetic among the experienced are pained by the suffering they see about to occur... and many others feel threatened by the inevitable consequences of the injury and death in our midst. Society is moving ever more rapidly towards mandated protection of fools... and want to make things foolproof, unfortunately, we fools have proven to be rather ingenious. Our love of personal freedom leads us to reject any restriction; our lack of honest self evaluation make some restriction virtually mandatory. Our individual views on the wingloading topic reminds me of the old George Carlin routine... "Have you ever noticed how anyone driving slower than you is an absolute MORON, and the ones driving faster are F%&king MANIACS!" ...or something to that effect. As a newbie in skydiving, but very experienced in life, PLEASE listen to the wize old geezers who try to educate and counsel you in this sport. There will be plenty of time to advance... only if you survive... he sighs, knowing from his own personal behaviour that impatience and arrogance will likely prove too strong to subdue... Rusty, I feel you have captured in your words what is a continuing dilemma not just in skydiving but in life in general. Us "old geezers" are not trying to bust anyone's chops or take anything away from them. We would just like to see them be able to last long enough to become "old geezers" My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  15. Probably the same reason you jump a revised version of a canopy that killed people. Canopies do not kill people. If they did how come some many people can jump them time after time without a problem? If a canopy landed you just fine last time, if you do the same thing on the next jump so will it. 16. All reserve canopies are test to the following: 4.3.4 Strength Test: No material(s) or device(s) that attenuates shock loads and is not an integral part of the parachute assembly or component being certificated may be used. Tests may be conducted for either a complete parachute assembly or separate components. There shall be no evidence of material, stitch, or functional failure that will affect airworthiness. The same canopy, harness, component, and/or riser(s) shall be used for all 4.3.4 tests. Opening forces shall be measured on all 4.3.4 tests. The parachute must be functionally open within the number of seconds calculated for 4.3.6 tests. Parachute assemblies shall be tested in accordance with the following schedule a. Test weight = Maximum operating weight limit x 1.2 b. Test speed = Maximim operating speed limit x 1.2 However, test weight must be not less than 264 lb (119.7 kg) and the test speed must be not less than 180 KEAS (333.4 km/h) for reserve and emergency parachute assemblies; for dual harness parachute assemblies for test weight must not be less than 480 lb (217.7 kg) and the test speed must not be less than 210 KEAS (388.9 km/h).*** These weights and speeds are what the canopy is tested to take on opening. The max. suspended weight or max. exit weight is what the manufacture feels the jumper can take on landing. I hope this helps. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  17. The Quick R is also covered under FAA TSO-C23D or it could not be jumped in the US. http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgTSO.nsf/0/2DB61E5BC909D98185256E5900556BC1?OpenDocument Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  24. Yes I have, on several occasions. I am aware of all the documents involved and how they came to be in John's possession. Then why do you keep asking if we know which documents. You made it appear that you didn't know which documents we are all referring to and that we are all just making this up. The fact still remains that he violated the trust of the members by doing what he did. His actions cost me money as a member of the USPA. I would have much rather seen that money spent on something productive and useful to skydiving instead of his ego. He does not have my best interest as a skydiver at heart. Judy And you made it appear that you do know what documents are in question. Do you? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
