  2. Line length will remain the same, total suspended length, or height will be different, and this should influence the balance of the canopy and the pendulum effects. It will surely be more noticeable under a small canopy. The relationship of the load to the canopy will be different but the trim will remain the same. The difference 2 to 3 inches will make would be hard for even the best of canopy pilots to notice. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  5. This is just a guess, but it looks to me like you missed a real good chance to keep your mouth shut the first time and are working on doing it again. jmo PS: Take some time off and work on your spelling. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Yes, shorter risers will slightly affect line length - by maybe half a percentage point! Hah! Hah! Loosening your chest strap will restore more than that in stability, etc. Rob, If you make the risers 10 inches or 10 feet, the lines will stay the same length. Am I missing something here. 7. 4.3.6 Functional Test (Normal Pack All Types): For all 4.3.6 tests the maximum allowable opening time for parachute canopies with a maximum operating weight of 250 lb (113.4 kg) or less, is 3 s from the moment of pack opening. For parachutes with a maximum operating weight of greater than 250 lb (113.4 kg) the maximum allowable opening time shall be increased by 0.01 s for every pound of maximum operating weight in excess of 250 lb (113.4 kg). 4.3.6 (Continued): Alternatively altitude loss instead of time may be measured and the maximum allowable altitude loss may be calculated as follows. For all 4.3.6 tests the maximum allowable altitude loss for parachutes with a maximum operating weight of 250 lb (113.4 kg) or less is 300 ft (91.5 m) from the altitude at pack opening. For parachutes with a maximum operating weight of greater than 250 lb (113.4 kg) the maximum allowable altitude loss shall be increased by 1 ft for every pound of maximum operating weight in excess of 250 lb (113.4 kg). Most reserve canopies are tested to time rather then distance. Source: AS-8015B Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. my uneducated guess... shorter risers will : -set the CG higher -let the canopy spread less, in length and in span But I don't know if a couple of inches less will have such a great effect. Ask on the canopy control forum what effect changing the riser length can have. The line length will still be the same and line length is what determines trim. 10. By saying everyone on this site is ready for a smear campaign you are doing the same thing you are complaining about. If you read through the posts, most of the people who responded were either asking for more information or supporting you. If you don't enjoy rigging, maybe you should get into some other line of work. jmo Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  11. Several airports only have a three letter identifier. Airport Identifier Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  12. You should have mentioned everything that you were billed for. You made it sound like the rigger was trying to cheat you. Did you go over the itemized receipts or attempt to speak with the rigger before throw this open on the net? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. Or shorter risers... whoa steady there - get shorter risers, alter canopy trim - better to get longer arms They will change the brake setting for that jumper, but how will they alter canopy trim. With shorter risers the "short" comes off the bottom not the top. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  14. And there is a real good chance you will be a little short of team members on the your next jump. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  15. I can tell you it weighed in at a little over 4,800 pounds and was recovered with 3 62.5 foot canopies. Other than that, Proprietary. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  17. How can a rigger keep records of something they didn't do? Also, the FAR's specifically state you do not need to keep a record of any work done oin a main canopy. Derek But I bet I know someone who does! My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  19. I am not going to get into "he said they said" with you. I said "Thats just my opinion, you do as you see fit" But there is a large difference between "adding something" such a an extra link or a longer bridle and moving the toggle on the brake line. As far as telling the difference in a piece of spectra, if you picked a piece off the floor there might be a problem. But you could call the manufacture, ask them what they used and match that up to the label on the roll you use. Ahh...but that would be consulting with the manufacture, wounldn't it? The bottom line is, we could all be wrong. It all depends on how the FAA interprets it on that day. You could have a letter saying it is like so and all they have to do is say that is wrong. Next case. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  20. Does that mean that you don't have to actually talk to the manufactor about replacing something like a steering line but you just have to have a master ticket? I gues that means that every reline done by a senior rigger is illegal then right? Would you do a reline with the supervision of a mater rigger or specific instruction from the manufacture? I don't consider installing a factory set of lines an alteration. Building you own set out of a different material and installing them I think is. Thats just my opinion, you do as you see fit. But remember, when the FAA reads it, it reads just the way they want it to. Always leave yourself some room. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  21. I am not saying it is the "best". I am not qualified to make that judgment. But like all things, if the harness is built right it can be an effective addition to in training and practicing EP for students and experienced alike. I used to be involved in a bit of testing and I would always go to the harness to become comfortable with a new test item. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  22. Good question, I haven't got a clue. Is there a "life" on the cutters and if so what? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  23. Adjusting the length of break lines is just that, an adjustment. Changing a major component, the brake lines, is an alteration. Alterations and major repairs must be performed by a master rigger or the manufacture. Funny thing is, if it is done by manufacture, it can be done by anyone that works in the shop. Riggers ticket not needed. Go figure My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  24. When used in a test program, there is no service life on any of the components. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  25. It is a C-123, Provider. It was first built in the late forties as a glider. They then hung the prop engines on it and it wouldn't pull a sick whore off a piss pot. So they put the jets on it. The jet engines run on the same avgas as the receps do. The one most people are familiar with is based out of Kingman Az. and belongs to Jim Blumenthal. I have used it for drop test up to 5,000 pounds and with the jets burning it climbs like a raped ape. Have been lucky enough to make a few jumps out of it.
