  4. A few years ago a Navy test jumper from China lake went in with a clamp on her reserve, it can happen. A 5 pound weight, well maybe, but that would be tough. I, like many other riggers, use a check sheet. It lists everything to be checked during a repack, and all tool are listed out and back in. Plus my riggers box is set up as a shadow box. Drawers are lined with thin red foam with a thicker piece of black foam over that. There is a cutout for each tool and if one is missing the red jumps out. I only pack when I am alone, no distractions. I don't answer the phone or the door. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. If the plane becomes uncontrollable during jump run, your chances of getting out would be slim. It only takes less then 1 G and you will not be able to get up to get out. As far as abandoning an aircraft over a populated area, you should not be flying jump run over a populated area to begin with. FYI: The canopies for the systems are manufactured by a jumper in Elsinore. Gary Douris, owner of Free Flight. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  9. Tom, Its 3 sec. or 300 ft. There are 2 different test parameters that may be used to test. Every reserve I can think of are tested to 3 sec. because 3 sec is always 3 sec. no matter what speed you are traveling. 300 feet can go by real fast if you are doing 120 mph. or not so fast if you are doing only 50 mph. But you are right, deploying at 750 ft. just makes my skin crawl. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  10. I don't think so. They need to be able to trace the material, thread, part back to its source manufacture, and if I remember right, it all has to have certs. from the source stating it is manufactured to so and so spec. But if you get your Master ticket you can build your own harness/container and jump it yourself. At least thats what I been told. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  11. Hey Billy Boy, Checked my logs and guess what? I wasn't on that load with you, but I was at the dropzone and remember the NAVCON. When I started out, I wanted one so bad. But at $125 to $130 I just counldn't swing it. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  12. I still want to know how you get WL of 1.3/1 something on your 135 main. I figure it comes out to 1.77.1. You said you were getting a 160 Smart so that puts your W/L at 1.5/1 and only 50 pounds over what Aerodyne lists as Max. for and advanced canopy pilot. OH, they also list the max. W/L at 1.3/1. But none of that should be a problem what with all the previous jumps you have on Lo-Po type 7 cells that are over loaded to the max. Sorry if it sounded like I was picking on you. Any one who knows enough to explain to Windsor how to pack a racer doesn't need any help with anything. Good luck. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  13. OK, Wardo, The kid just wants to run with the Big Dogs and all you do is slap him down. You are such a bully. Wheres my hat? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  19. Tim, You have almost 5,000 jumps and as a rigger have a pretty good understanding of canopy dynamics. DZF has less than 300 jumps and said he is 240 out the door. Apples and oranges. I agree with you, skill at crash landings is going to help, but not much. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  20. It was the TI who had the bridle of the drouge around his neck. I am not sure what caused it, but that is the only time I have heard of it happening. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  21. If you are 240 out the door, how do you load a Spectre 135 and 1.3 to 1? Maybe my math is off but I come up with 1.77 to 1. With less then 300 jumps, you should be fun to watch. I wish you luck. Here is something you might find interesting. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/fatalities/search.cgi?fatal_category=Landing My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  24. Thats the one I have been using for years. They only hold 150 jumps though. They are in Para-Gear's new catalog, page 128, item No. B1790, P.I. Log Book, $5.95 each. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  25. You are 40 pounds over the Max. weight for a Tempo 170. With a W/L of 1.40+, I sure hope you don't have to use it. A step up from 1.4 to 1.5 is a huge step on an over-loaded 7 cell reserve. For your experience level, according to Brian Germain's chart, your main should be no more than 1.2. It would be smart to get into bigger gear quick.
