  1. The standards for your harness and for aircraft seatbelts are set by the same entities. The FAA. In fact the FAA sets the standards for anything related to aircraft. TSO-C23d covers your harness and TSO-C22 covers aircraft seatbelts. Hooker Custom Harness holds a TSO under TSO-C22f. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. The Silhouette is the best-kept secret in canopies today. Excellent canopy and a great choice for your needs. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  3. Experienced jumpers are paying for solely altitude. Students are paying for many things, guidance being among the foremost. I have landed with students on many occasions due to weather; they never pay. You are right; I was just talking about experienced jumpers. Your policy on refund and that of Tony K. is great. I know it costs you both money to make that call, but it says volumes about your integrity. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  4. In 1980 or 1981 I docked 8 th. on the first night 10 stack. That was before night crew was recognized. There is a picture of it in the Bombshelter at Perris. Spark My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. Come on, get off of it. No one said anything about "misuse" of equipment. You have no idea if either one of us swoop or not and it has no bearing in this discussion. Hook does not even jump anymore, but his input is still valuable. How come you did not mention in your little list, "if you exceed 78 mph vertical speed the cypress will fire"? Adrian exceeded that speed and the cypress did what it was designed to do, it fired his reserve. That is a fact; now learn to live with it. Until the unit is redesigned it is something swoopers need to think about. All the rest of this is bullshit. You can either learn from this incident and do what you need to do to avoid it, or stand around pointing fingers. That’s up to you, I choose to realize the operating limits of the unit and make my decisions accordingly. I am done with this. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  6. You and your anonymous buddy sure are defensive and seem eager to bad mouth and label people who may or may not agree with your position. I give a shit because your actions and the actions of other “Skydivers” around the country affect the way all are perceived by small town governments all across the country. A small town government in Colorado is pretty much the same as a small town anywhere else in the country. Property rights are property rights for the most part. And since you guys do not own the property in question, you have no property rights. You have only the rights granted to you by the leaseholder, the City. And just to clear something up, I have shot completive trap for over 25 years and a very familiar with shotguns. They are a lethal weapons and can kill when in the hands of careless people. Yes, I call myself a skydiver and I have for a lot more years then you can claim. I was around when your attitude was popular and it caused many small DZ’s to close. You can work with the City and your neighbors or you can yell and scream, “It is my right to do what the fuck I want”. If you and your nameless buddy are the ones dealing with the City my guess is that Brush will be closed soon. PS: Why does no one want to say why the DZ got closed down in the first place? I am done with this. Door My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  7. You are paying for altitude, not a jump. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  8. Firearms, drinking, open fires and skydiving, sure sounds like the perfect mix for having fun. Can't understand why the City would be upset about that. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  9. It's black, and you sure can jump it. I will even come up with a 100 pound ruck to go with it. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  11. You need to get rid of the attitude. If the airport is owned by the "City" that means it is controlled by the "City" not the County. Who is the lease agreement with, the "City" or the County? One reason might be your neighbors own their property and you don't. It belongs to the "City". It has been my experience that skydiving is the “bastard child of the aviation community” is because of skydivers. They are their own worst enemy. They are often loud, rude, and inconsiderate of others and only interest in their own enjoyment. We have all jumped at DZ’s that fit that description and most are now closed. I have also jumped at DZ’s where the jumpers and DZO’s are accommodating to their neighbors and the surrounding city. They don’t go around shouting and yelling about being picked on and it’s their “right” to do what they want. They find a way to compromise the others and reach a common ground that all can live with. Most of them are still open and thriving. Someone connected with your DZ has done something to piss off the City fathers and acting like a group of spoiled kids is probably not the best way to deal with it. Jmo. 12. When you consider winds and wing loading and such, think of what kind of winds you are willing to jump your F-111, 7 cell reserve in. Then make you decision.
  13. And they are somewhat "diamond shaped" because the canopy is bias constructed. The PC is "more square shaped" because it is block constructed.

  16. That’s was I said in the first place, MT-1XX rigs (at least some of them) have 2 pin mains. I am sitting hear looking at one right now. Actually it is a MT-1SX. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  17. Excellent response to the problem. Worth repeating. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  18. The ones I have are on "loan" from the Navy for high altitude testing opps. The are gray and black in color. The early MT-1XX units the Army used had 2 pins for free fall and 1 pin for static line use. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  19. This is what they foresaw in 2000. They got it to fire under one canopy, the only canopy of of the type in the world. The same manual that says canopy maneuvers can’t set off the cypres says it will fire if the descent rate exceeds 78 mph. It would seem to me that if you even suspect that you may be approaching those speeds under canopy to either shut the unit off or slow down your approach. It is not Airtec's responsibility to be the speed police for skydivers pushing the limits of ever increasing canopy technology. Jumpers and canopy improvement are changing the playing field not Airtec. Sparky. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  20. Just because it is legal to discharge firearms in the county that does not mean it is legal on a Municipal Airport. Municipal mean it belongs to the city not the county. The city can pass ordnance banning the discharge of firearms anywhere within the city limits. And no, a lease does not make the property "private". It means you may use the property for the purpose and within the limits specified in the lease document. You ever wonder why it is called a Municipal Airport? 22. However, Adrian did not have that information And BTW, I think we should probably get back to the original topic. Airtec has not made a statement that the investigation is concluded, AFAIK, so we shouldn't assume (edit for PC) that the CYPRES did anything out of accordance with the manual. Quote Onderzoek Cypres 2, S/N 01738, D.o.M. 07-2003 Investigation Plaats : Airtec Wunnenberg Location Tijdstip : 22 september 2005, 20.30 uur Date/time Aanwezig : Helmuth Cloth, Directeur Airtec Witnesses Karl Siemert, technicus Airtec Michael Wakob Afd. Ontwikkeling Airtec Achim Heinemann, technicus Airtec Kai Körner, technicus/vertegenwoordiging Airtec Norbert Meier, vertegenwoordiger DFV, ambtenaar Justitie Duitsland Jo Oosterveer, Paracentrum Texel, V.v.V. Michael Wakob opened the investigation with an explanation about the functioning and the way to read the data of the Cypres 2. Since Airtec didn’t know anything about the mechanical situation of the AAD, there were 2 technicians available to assist or to dismantle the AAD in case of serious damage due to the accident. After the explanation, pictures were taken of the equipment with the AAD mounted, where after the AAD was taken out of the equipment and visual inspected. It was determined, that there was no visible damage to the AAD and that the cutter had been activated. The communication port of the AAD was connected to a computer, after which the data, stored in the AAD containing the information for the day of the accident and the jump where it happened was downloaded. Geregistreerd sprong verloop. Registered jump event. Until aprox. 550 meters, the rate of descent is constantly +/- 14 m/s. Thereafter an operation was performed, which caused a raise of the descent rate in a short time up to +/- 36,5 m/s. The last three (3) seconds before activation showed a constantly descent rate of 36,5 m/s or slightly above. Activation of the release unit will take place if a rate of descent = > 35 m/s (78 mph) at an altitude of +/- 225 meters (aprox. 750 ft.) This value was 1,5 m/s higher. The AAD has fired at the normal altitude since the requirements for activation had been fulfilled. De aktivatie is derhalve correct. Out of this point of view, the activation was correct. After activation, the rate of descent stayed very high up to an altitude of +/- 130 meters, thereafter the rate of descent slowed down to aprox. 15 m/s. Due to his behavior, the jumper created a situation in which the AAD according to its settings regarding altitude and rate of descent had to fire.
