At least 4 tests are done using the RSL. At least 4 may be done without using the RSL. AS-8015-B 4.3.6.2 Breakaway Drop Tests: Eight drops shall be made by a person weighing not more than the maximum operating weight by breaking away from an open and normally functioning main parachute canopy with a vertical velocity of less than 20 FPS (6.1 m/s) at the time of breakaway and actuating the reserve pack within 2 s of the breakaway. If a reserve static line is part of the assembly, no less than 4 of the breakaway drops shall be made with the reserve static line actuating the reserve pack. The parachute canopy must be functionally open within the time +2 s, or altitude, obtained in 4.3.6 from the time of breakaway. Again, Should does not mean it can't be removed. You have 180 jumps and 1 year is the sport. You are jumping a reserve that is loaded at what the manufacture recommends for an Expert canopy pilot. You will soon be downsizing to a main that is loaded at 1.3:1 Hell, what could possibly go wrong? But they did publish a letter recommending using caution when jumping a white reserve.

Out of 8 that voiced an opinion “agree or disagree”, 7 agree with one disagreeing and later agreeing. My first thought is to say that the challenger won but when it comes to drinking and driving there are no winners, just losers. "The 16,694 fatalities in alcohol-related crashes during 2004 represent an average of one alcohol-related fatality every 31 minutes." Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Here you said they already published the letter. Where would one go to get a copy of this letter? If you are the only one that received a copy I don't think SP would mind if you post it for others to see. As was mentioned before, "should" does not mean "must". I think this may be another case of your personal interpretation of the wording and not that of the FAA. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

The difference between you a Stratostar is he had the balls to list specifics that he is aware of and not paint the industry as a whole with the same brush. Repeated posts containing nothing but innuendo and lacking anything specific is a waste of bandwidth. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Poll: PIA rigging forum, want it back?

Mick, I think the idea behind "Rigging Wiki" was to update PPM Vol. II. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

Question about an old Perris incident
mjosparky replied to ChrisL's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I can't remember the date but it was a DC-3. The cause was an engine mound snapped during the take off role and when the engine shifted it broke a fuel line. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Question about an old Perris incident
mjosparky replied to ChrisL's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
No I wasn't on the load or there that day. Rich Brooks was on the load. Skip was flying the plane. Chet Bennet was the big hero that day. He took charge at the door and got everybody out in an orderly manner. About 6 or 7 years ago I was involved in the filming of a recreation of the event for some TV program but I am not sure if it ever aired My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
This is what one looked like after deploying. HW One good thing, they won't go into a down plane. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

You asked why people pulled down on rear risers when landing a round canopy. I responded with: “Two things happen when you pull down on the rear risers. First you move the apex vent off center increasing the drag coefficient, a little, which will slow the decent rate. Second you lower the rear of the canopy skirt in relation to the front skirt and this will reduce forward drive. If timed right at landing you will land softer with less forward speed. Results vary with canopy design.” I said nothing about “holding” or “running”. And you respond with: “I'm ready to give up on this. I feel like I'm talking to the old proverbial brick wall if you "most certainly know the difference between running and holding", and you are proud to claim there is something to be gained in pulling rear risers when landing in a holding orientation. I am truly surprised that no one has stepped up to the plate to agree with me on this” I explained to you my history (resent) with jumping rounds and come back with: “Having a greater number of jumps does not automatically make you right. There is only one correct answer. Pulling rear risers on landing in a holding orientation either slows you down or speeds you up. Slowing the descent by moving the apex off center by a foot or two doesn't make a tiny bit of sense to me. Why don't you act like the senior guy here and explain the physics in detail instead of trying to pussyfoot around it by pulling rank? Assuring me that you are right because you know what you're talking about and I don't isn't my kind of adult approach. How about explaining it?” I explained it to you in post #21. And you are right, have more jumps does not automatically make me right. But on the other hand because it “doesn’t make a tiny bit of sense” to you does not make it wrong. Just how long has it been since you have jumped a round canopy or any canopy for that matter? Now I have tried to answer your question and explain my position. You can agree, disagree or hold your breath until you turn blue. I don’t really care. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

The complete parachute system in a modern fighter jet has a service life of less then 12 years. Thats the canopy, risers, harness, everything. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

QuoteMaybe someone who really remembers what jumping those old rounds was all about will help me out here. Quote Up until the first of this year I was still jumping rounds on a regular basis doing testing for Irvin, Simula, Cold Lake Canada and other clients both civilian and military. I assure you I am aware of the different ways to control a round canopy, both modified and un-modified. Maybe with you limited number of jumps you never learned some of the finer points of canopy control? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
