What makes an experienced skydiver?
mjosparky replied to droquette's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Now you show complete disrespect for public employee union members I think he has a point. "Some" skydivers do treat time in sport like tenure. It's really just a self validation activity for self proclaimed old timers. It takes more than number of jumps and number of years to earn respect. But it doesn't hurt either And I think you have a valid point. But you did not make by being disrespectful to another group of people. And the subject is experience, not respect. You can respect a jumper regardless of their experience level. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

First you show disrespect for "experienced" jumpers who land like shit. (in your opinion) Now you show complete disrespect for public employee union members most of which work long hours for low pay keeping your ass out of trouble. Hopefully for you, experience will bring a little tolerance of others. I think if there are any other groups you want to rag on you start a separate thread. jmo Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Damn good way to do it. Also, keep one hand on item 1 while your eyes and other hand move to item 2. Keep other hand on item 2 while your hand and eyes move to item 3 and so on. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

This evening, I'm at my bosses house working on a computer. Earlier, I went downstairs because of the overwhelming smell of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. As I was enjoying the second cookie I thought to myself, "Self, juggalo would enjoy a cookie. He certainly deserves a cookie" I was going to have 3. I'd already had 2 cookies and juggalo had 0 cookies so I felt a bit selfish and undeserving of the 3rd cookie. The computer is broken, the cookies are gone... (only 2 were eaten by me mind you, and really, 3 did seem like the best number of cookies to eat)... and it's time to gather up my freshly dried t-shirts and new Gym shorts and skurry on home. Good night. More information then even juggalo needs.

Agreed.....but I will be willing to talk to Hydroguy again a few years from now, when he has a few thousand jumps......his attitude will have changed. We all know though.....as the percentages show, that he wont be around, so its a mute point. bozo Hey Jim, Just another pile of testosterone wanting to run with the big dogs. Give him 15 years and a couple thousand landings on a pocket rocket and he won’t give a shit who stands it up and who doesn’t. If he makes it that long. I just paid $285.00 to have a harness replaced on a Javelin. That was using the same hardware. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

True, I have a Swift with flat braided dacron lines. I also use the same flat braided for lower control lines on all my sport canopies. For some reasons (maybe due to the surface exposed to the rings) it wears less than the equivalent round braided. If I remember right it also held up well to the velcro on toggles. But even with all its advantages, it is not "cool". Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

And it has been my experience that you do a very good job of it.

You have received advice from jumpers with 16 jumps to over 2000 jumps. The following advice from Marks is the only one you should give any consideration to. If you have in fact been through a FJC and are still asking questions of this type you need more instruction. "I'm going to recommend you sit through the first jump course again, see if they will let you just tag along and go through the class again. that is a very very serious question that was probably taught to you, and for some reason you missed it. So I'm concerned about what else you missed in the first jump course. take the class again." Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

The week before I cross ported my some guy browed a hot knife from a rigger in the Elsinore Ghetto. He then proceeded to cross port the top skin. Needless to say it took me the better part of 2.5 hours to cross port mine.

Is this your conclusion after 17 wingsuit dives? If so, you have much work to do. Few skydiving disiplines allow one as much time and perspective to view the surface of our planet as it constantly creeps closer to us. Alti awareness is alti awareness. It's that simple. You either have it or you don't. The ground (or water) doesn't lie. It is where it is. Err at your peril. t Once again the voice of experience raises its ugly head and spits forth the truth. While water is deceptive when you are low, 100 feet or below, at or above pull altitudes it is not a factor. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Oh yeah? Well what do you know? Enough to know that I don't know enough.

Is this a resonable price for a Spectre
mjosparky replied to johnnyoneeye's topic in Gear and Rigging
From PD web site. Straight Flight at full Glide: The Spectre flies at about the same airspeed as other canopies such as the original Sabre, the Sabre2, and the Stiletto. many jumpers do not expect a seven-cell canopy to glide as far as a comparable nine-cell, but at full glide the Spectre actually has a slightly flatter glide angle than some nine-cell canopies, including both the original Sabre and the Sabre2. I thought Irvin Aerospace USA, Irvin Canada and ParaFlite were owned by Airborne Systems. http://www.airbornesystems-na.com/ Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Then why do most manufactures use the same pilot chute on every size rig they make? With some canopies the weight difference between large and small can be almost 50%. Freefall speeds can vary from just above 100 mph to around 180. How are they going to "carefully calculate" just the right speed. Now I agree that the faster the deployment speed and the heavier the load the quicker the opening. But the reserve is test to a speed of 180 KEAS minimum, that’s 207 mph, with a minimum weight of 264. (TSO-C23d) And that is done 3 times on the same equipment. It is pretty hard to blow up the canopy if you stay within those parameters. Now if surviving an opening at speeds above 200 mph is another question. Only when it comes to whiny old farts, "Sparky". And I serve cheese with that wine. But then again you have to be old enough to drink the wine to get the cheese. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I downloaded the pictures and lightened the contrast on them so I could see detail. It looks like you put a lot of work into the bracket. Very nice work I might add. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Very well put. It seem that mattfallsfast has little respect for anything or anyone. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

You do know that reserve canopies are tested to a speed of 180 KEAS, which is above normal terminal speed? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
