Summary of 2013 US sport skydiving fatalities

Probably because the reserve did not open in time. All an AAD does is cut the loop. It does not open your reserve. It’s up to the jumper to save their life. These 2 jumpers failed to that. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
I only quoted the portion that addressed the issue at hand. Look in Part 91.147 Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

I would think following the requirements of an STC is covered somewhere in the FAR's. Am I wrong about that? Part 43 Appendix B Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

This is the only mention of mandatory use of a parachute in and Part of the FAR’s. This is what Part 91 has to say about the use of a seat. There is no requirement in FAR’s to wear a rig when operating with the door off. This is addressed in the STC or FAA Field Approval in a list of operating limitations. Seldom if ever is it required in the larger twins used in skydiving but mainly in the smaller single engine AC. Part 119 is there to determine which operations will have to fly under Part 121, 125 and 135. It also is in reference to AC carrying more than 20 people and a payload of more than 6,000. Larger jump planes operate under the rules of Part 91 so Part 119 does not apply. What you charge for a jumper or an observer has no bearing on the anything. You fee scale is not determined by the FED’s. Sometimes I think we get caught up in chasing words. When it comes right down to it you need to run it by the FED’s and you never know how they are going read it from day to day. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

That's a good rule Sparky...one I'm finally starting to use! I was thinking of you 2 days ago while driving on the 10 out of L.A. to Houston ~ had to get home or would have called ya, stopped & 'killed some Goose' with you. In reality ~ after having to 'clean out' parents & in-laws homes after deaths last year I now look at 'stuff' in a whole new light. I've accumulated a lot of really cool things over the years and it's hard...but I gotta start letting it go. I have hundreds of airshow posters from places I performed at, always thought 'someday' I'll get them framed and hung as a memento...Hell I could wallpaper a hangar with 'em. Skydiving tee-shirts...I have 5 or 6 large plastic bins packed with new never worn 'keepsakes' from boogies & DZ's all over. Still have every parachute I ever owned... If I happen on a good deal I usually take it...then end up with things like a case (50) of Colt .45 magazines, 20,000 rounds of 5.56 ball. Heck I forgot I had several old copper 'chemical' fire extinguishers I had polished & clear coated stashed in San Diego. A collection of 50+ bayonets from as far back as The Civil War... I don't know just how many various types of lighted Beer signs from the 60's & 70's one actually should have in their possession, but I bet I have 5 or 6 times the recommended amount! Remember the Hat & Tee we got at Kitty Hawk? My hat's in a bin with 100 other hats & the Tee tucked away with all the others...yeah, I'm an episode of Hoarders in the making. ~ ~ Cool 'Stuff' that I probably don't really 'need' Just about the time I quit jumping I started thinning things out. I had collected enough gear, canopies, containers, pilot chutes and stuff to start up my own ParaGear. I loaded a bunch of it up one Sat. drove down to Perris and started handing it out. A buddy of mine said you can give away all that gear and I told I can do and damn thing I want. I then handed him my first Alti II I bought at Elsinore in 1976. You know the ones without the yellow in them. I walked around with a grin for weeks after that. is not exactly the same as this: I think we would agree that a static-line jumpmaster "engages in sport parachuting" even if he or she does not intend to jump and instead rides the C-182 down. Otherwise, I agree with you. The alleged ambiguity, whether "observing" is a subset of "engaging in," is not very ambiguous at all. If observing is a form of engaging in sport parachuting, then how much more is flying the aircraft also engaging in sport parachuting? Logically, if the observer is allowed to use the floor as a seat, the pilot must also be allowed to use the floor as a seat. One twist: in PAC-750s and Porters, operators sometimes turn the co-pilots seat around to face aft. The seat is obviously approved if it is facing forward. Is it still approved if it is facing aft? Does an observer in such an aft-facing seat require a parachute? Mark I ran into the problem of turning the right seat around when doing high altitude tests with a King Air. The Feds said we had to file a 337 for an alteration which was a real pain in the ass. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Closing UPT Vector3 with clocked pilot chute displayed
mjosparky replied to SoCalJumper's topic in Gear and Rigging
Did you leave any SLACK in the bridle, above the pin? If yes, then how many inches? The method that you are talking about was used on millions of jumps over the last 20 years on Vectors 3's with no issues (until pierced bridles during the last few years). There were millions of jumps made on rigs using the “alternate method” before some decided that it should change. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

No it is not "like new". I hope you got a real good deal on it. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
What a coincidence. The picture shows a jumper flying an orange canopy.
-
The lead in was straight out of “The Right Stuff”. Have I got this right? In the first part it looks like 2 jumpers did a Mr. Bill dive and then dropped the one jumper off on a wing suit. Now to me that is hotter than landing a small canopy. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Bullshit. She isn't the victim here so allowing her to resign doesn't fix the fact that she is just a dishonest piece of shit. Dude, be a man and a loyal friend and tell him. OP said he was worried about losing a friendship, and he gave us limited info. By confronting her first he can 1) confirm his suspicions, and 2) take away her options. If she steps up, the guy likely will believe it more coming from her than even from his best friend (again, just going by the limited info provided by the OP). Bottom line is still that he tells his friend, one way or another. It's just a matter of how he saves the friendship and actually gets the dude to believe it and cut away. All good points but it also gives her a chance to get in a first strike on the OP with a pack of lies to her boyfriend if she's the malicious and devious type. That’s already established that as fact. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
