  1. I still don't see where you would use them doing a chutless jump. Since you are wearing a chute what are you going to cutaway. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  5. Nope. One business had an in-house management conference and the your MBTI classification was on your name tag. I once worked for a Fortune 500 company and every couple of years some clown in management would come up with some new and trendy management theory and force the underlings to do questionable bullshit. I can completely see some jackass thinking MBTI on a name tag was a "good idea." Of course, I suppose so would an astrological sign. What's that called? Junk science? I find it an invasion of my privacy. I'm a ISTJ. No it’s called padding your resume. In some companies they promote by the weight of your personal file. I saw a guy go from Firefighter to Capt. in 4 months with some hair brain idea. What bothered me the most was the bubble head Chief we had at the time bought into it. 6. Billy probably doesn’t remember it, but I met him several years ago at Perris. He was part of the record attempt for largest formation by the hearing impaired. I sat in on one of the debriefs but had to leave half way through it. They were yelling a swearing at each other and getting really nasty. It’s amazing what you can do with your hands. 10. It has been almost 10 years and there has been little if any advancement on this issue. That was the main reason I posted it. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  11. In a book or a movie? For a movie you can story board the thing and then clean it up in post. In the book I would jump the reserve from a helicopter and land on the roof. Repel to the balcony and do my dirty deeds. Jump the main from the balcony and land on the roof a much lower building. Then causally wander out of the area. Sparky And collect a large check. 12. How did you possibly use any cutaway system on a chutless jump? Capewell’s killed a lot of people back in the day for a variety of reasons. They were never designed to do what skydivers used them for. Originally they were for hooking a pilot up to his ejection seat that held the canopy And before you ask, yes I have jump them and have a couple of cutaway on them. I am sure fastphil has used them also. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  16. Training The pilot should have “prober” training. It is the author’s opinion that a seminar in advanced canopy control, incorporating the information provided in this document, should be formalized by the USPA and offered to intermediate jumpers through local drop zones and part of D license qualifications. However, in the vacuum that currently exists prospective pilots should seek advice and coaching from proven knowledgeable authorities who also exhibit the proper responsible attitude .One without the other is useless. The last point above “training”, points out that there are really two levels of qualifications at issue here. The first, obviously, are those of the prospective High Performance (HP) canopy pilot. However, in that no document alone (certainly not this one) is adequate to teach all the necessary skills, there must be some individual who functions as the Instructor. So what are the prerequisites of a good instructor? In that there are no existing standards, how can one recognize a suitable source of information and advice? The author recommends the following standards for someone to a qualified mentor to pilots transitioning to HP canopies. 1. They should have a minimum of 5 years in the sport 2. They should have a minimum of 1000 jumps. 3. They should have made at least 100 jumps in the preceding 12 months. 4. They should hold a USPA Instructor rating or an FAA Flight Instructor rating. 5. They should have at least 100 jumps in each of the canopy class (es) for which they are rated. 6. They should have experience on the specific canopy the prospective pilot will be using. This was published May 13, 1994 by Jerry Sobieski. Any thoughts? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  17. After reading some of the responses I am glad I no longer to any stunt work. A guy could get killed with you guys as second unit directors.
  18. Are you talking about one incident in particular? You can have a normal deployment altitude and a low cutaway on the same jump. Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

    Help....

I have noticed that we can now post pictures directly to the reply box. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4441986;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread I have read the instructions over and over. I have tried different things and I can’t get it to work. Could someone help an old man out and talk me through the process? Sparky My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  20. As has been mentioned by some of the others, this scenario is doable but it would take a very experienced jumper with a wide range of skills. I would suggest you write a rough draft of the scene with just the basics included. Contact an old grey beard from a local DZ and ask him/her to proof read it for you. When you get the technical aspects of the skydiving portion in order you can fill in the story line around that. Sparky Here are a couple of DZ’s in your area. http://www.dropzone.com/dropzone/Detailed/18.shtml http://www.dropzone.com/dropzone/Detailed/720.shtml My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  21. I only quoted the portion that addressed the issue at hand. *** You don't think a drop zone is a commercial operator that is exempted under this part and allowed to operate under part 91 because of 119.1(6)? If it was just part 91 why don't DZs have to get a LOA from the Feds ? Where is the drug testing requirement? Look in Part 91.147 Sparky It was a rhetorical question. I fly my plane for 3 dropzones and I'm not listed on a loa nor drug tested. Are you saying that there a USPA Group Member DZ’s that are not abiding by the “GROUP MEMBER PLEDGE”? Sparky GROUP MEMBER PLEDGE As a person with operational control, I pledge to: • Comply with the USPA Basic Safety Requirements (BSRs), which include compliance with the Federal Aviation Regulations relevant to skydiving operations, including aircraft operations. • Ensure that all pilots employed or utilized for the purpose of parachute operations hold at least a commercial pilot certificate and a second-class medical certificate. • Ensure that all aircraft utilized for the purpose of parachute operations comply with commercial maintenance requirements described in FAR Part 91.409(a) through (f) as applicable. • Ensure skydiving staff of the Group Member are appropriately qualified and trained in accordance with the SIM and (where applicable) hold current USPA ratings commensurate with their duties. • Establish landing procedures that will include separation of high-speed and normal landings. These landing procedures must be prominently displayed and communicated to all jumpers at the drop zone. • Support USPA promotional programs at the drop zone. • Require introductory or regular individual USPA membership of: 1. all licensed U.S. skydivers (a skydiver is considered a student until licensed) 2. non-resident foreign nationals who do not have proof of membership in their national aeroclub. • Include USPA in the Group Member hold-harmless release, consistent with state laws.
