  1. You understand it wrong. RTFM I realize you are new and probably jumping rental gear but make sure you know how it works before you put it on. It activates the release unit when it detects a rate of descent higher than 29 mph (13 meters per second). The activation altitude is split. In the case of rate of descent being approx. that of free fall, the opening altitude is at approx. 750 feet (the same as with Expert CYPRES). I feel you did the right thing for your situation. Know your gear. It is what saves your life on every jump. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  2. QuoteWrong, at least according to vigil. Quote It’s this part of your statement that I am uncomfortable with. Just my personal opinion but I think Vigil has some major issues that need to be dealt with before they can expect any creditability as a viable alternative to Air Tec. 4. I think you will be happier with the Galaxy in the long run. They have field reps. that are at different DZ and boogies and will give you altimeter a check up for free. As long as I have been around the FT-50 is an unknown quantity. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  5. (how anyone could have difficulty reading a number is a mystery to me), and quite frankly, I find the concept of a skydiver who is unable to adapt to a digital readout with huge numbers quite scary. If you get an analog, get it because you like it better than a digital. No other reason. If you have ever looked at a digital watch and been able to tell what time it is, you'll do just fine on a digital altimeter. Quote For 30 years I have worn an Altimaster II for reasons other then I like it. I think it is a better choice. If it is broken it is obvious, it doesn’t need batteries, it is easier to see by me and others in freefall with me, it only costs $180 and comes with a 10 year guarantee. I have a couple that are over 20 years old and still work fine. I don't know of any didital that is 10 years old and still in service. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  13. You are right on all counts. I suggest when buying gear these issues should be sorted out before the deal is consummated. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  15. The Angelfire is not made in a 176 sq. ft. size. Did you try looking on the Jump Shack web site or in one of their canopy manuals? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  16. From the Cypres 2 manual: "It activates the release unit when it detects a rate of descent higher than 29 mph (13 meters per second). The activation altitude is split. In the case of rate of descent being approx. that of free fall, the opening altitude is at approx. 750 feet (the same as with Expert CYPRES). However, should the rate of descent be lower than that of freefall but still above the limit of 29 mph (e.g. with partially opened canopy, or after a cutaway), then Student CYPRES activates the release unit when the altitude falls below approx. 1000 feet (approx. 300 meters) above ground level. The student will then have more time to prepare for landing. Like the Expert CYPRES, the Student CYPRES ceases operation below approx. 130 feet AGL." My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  18. That statement could apply to a lot of skydivers. "The risk of living your life on the point of the sword is that it is the 1st to be blunted on the armour of reality. The risk of being part of the blade is far, far less, and yet we are still part of the weapon that slays the dragons of boredom that threaten our lives. " Tonto. 19. You are right that the cypress and canopies are for military use and will more than likely not be available to the general public. While the mains come in a variety of configurations, depending on the mission, the only reserves available are either the TR 7 cell made with F-111 type material or the HR 9 cell made with the same material. I brought up the military version because of this statement. They are not even close to being "equivalent". My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

  21. But have you noticed we are still here 25/30 years latter?
  22. Dacron lines or any line for that matter is not going to absorb much water when under tension. Putting under tension after it is already wet will squeeze any water out of it. And you are correct; getting F-111 type material wet will lower the porosity. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
  23. 3. I have received some advice from a forum user that points to a Cypress Student model as a good equivelent to the Military model. I will keep you informed. Alex This is from CPS web site. http://www.cpsworld.com/tech_pdfs/SSK/Cypres.pdf My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

The result should be your MLW Call or email the manufacture of the rig and see how they measure the MLW on their rig. Each one can be a little different.
