Sorry, dont mean to thread jack again... I'd be interested to know, next time its time for a reserve repack to weigh your main and reserve, with lines and links, and see what kind of weight limit we then have to work with for the container. I think you will find that just about every rig out there today, excluding student and tandem, will come in between 20 and 24 pounds. That is using a scale and not guess-ta-mating. When parachute material weighs between 1 oz. and say 1.5 oz. per yard there is not that much difference in the weight of a 97 sq. ft. canopy and one that is 200 sq. ft. You need to know that Jay did 640 on his 50th. birthday.

My congratulations and admiration to Mr. Willard Lee Stokes and 640 jumps in 24 hours. He is an inspiration to even the most jaded among us. I feel honored to have had the opportunity to know and learn from Jay. Michael Owens (aka Sparky) My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
The use of houses and car is good because they are always about the same size. That is what I have always used. Other building and trees are bad because it is hard to tell in free fall if the trees are bushes and commercial buildings vary is size too much. jmo My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

What is the point. Light weight went away with 10 speed stars. Today people wear a rig the size of a shaving kit and then put on lead to fall faster. Seems kind of silly to me. -
Any other skydiving EMT's/Paramedics?

No where in you post does it say you can provide ALS care outside of Sac. County. Look in the State H & S code. If you do carry drugs and use them without the ability to contact a base station you are diagnosing and prescribing, both functions allowed by a Physician only. What besides Narcan and Dextrose for unconscious unknown do protocols allow you to administer before contact? My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

All very good points. The most important thing you do is make sure 911 is called immediately to get the EMS wheels started. And as you said, us restraint. As Para Medics you are not Doctors, diagnosis and treatment are out of you realm period. If you feel a line is called for, what solution will you use and at what rate? What is indicated for sever head injury with the possibility of brain swell? Do you go with Ringers, or NS? If the victim is conscious and in extreme pain do you push MS? Where do you draw the line? Are you going to help your friend or create more problems? Your few months of PM school are no substitute for the many years it takes to be called Doctor. I have been there and done that. If you are emotionally involved with the victim you are more than likely a liability to those trying to help. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -

Brett, give us a break. -
It is a commercial grade item and has no milspec. I don't think it is used for 550 sheath but do not know for sure. The reason I use Type IIA is because by some strange twist of luck I ended up with a 3000 foot roll a few years ago and have yet to find any other use for it. Like ZigZag said, there is nothing wrong with using a GPS to "help" spot. But it has to be used correctly to be useful. It is just a tool. If the pilot uses it to only locate where the plane is it is not much of a tool. I can look out the door and tell where I am at. For the GPS to work really well the pilot should use it to determine what the upper winds are doing and adjust his run-in and the point he hits the light accordingly. By reading the ground speed it will let him know how long to a release point that will put the jumpers opening point within reach of the DZ. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

Statement concerning summer Vigil AAD usage
mjosparky replied to billvon's topic in Safety and Training
QuoteYou would think that testing their design at temperatures should have already been done. No wonder some DZs are grounding them. This type of testing is required on rigs to get TSO approval. Why would anyone want to use an AAD that could not pass the same requirment? 4.3.3 Compressed Pack and Environmental Tests: Three drops shall be made to the lowest applicable direct drop speed in 4.3.6 except that prior to the test the parachute assembly shall be subjected to the following preconditioning: (These tests may be combined with other tests.) 4.3.3.1 Precondition for 16 h at not less than +200 °F (93.3 °C), stabilize to ambient and test drop. 4.3.3.2 Precondition for 16 h at not greater than -40 °F (-40 °C), stabilize to ambient and test drop. 4.3.3.3 Precondition for not less than 400 continuous hours with a 200 lbf (889.6 N) or greater load applied to compress the pack in a manner similar to that most likely to be encountered in actual use. Test drop within 1 h after removing the load. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
HP landing on a( the first) demo jump?
mjosparky replied to phoenixlpr's topic in Safety and Training
Pryor to the “Pro” program it was the "good ole boy" system. If someone got a demo he asked his buddies whether they could do the job or not. Kind of hit & miss wouldn't you say? Many qualified jumpers were refused entry onto demos by the same “good ole boy’ system mentioned before. It was the fox watching the hen house. The “Pro” program set up a national peer review in the form of demonstrated ability and a written test covering need to know items on doing a safe demo. And neither does being picked by your buddy make you a demo jumper. In your area most of the new Pro rated jumpers are signed off by a guy name Jim Wallace. Do you think he has done enough demos to qualify. Before the “Pro” rating many demos would happen without any ground crew and many of the jumpers would make the jump having never seen the target. That is a pretty bold statement. How would you know what skills a prospective demo jump might have? There is a position in place that oversees all demos that are done legally; it is called S&TA, Regional Director or National Director. They are required to sign off on all demos. Get you fact straight Nick, and don’t let you emotions cloud you view of reality. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals -
Type III coreless is 100 lb. per Strong’s sample book. It is commercial not milspec. Type IIA is 225 lb. per mil-C-5040H. I keep a roll of Type IIA on hand for main closing loops and pull cords. Pull cords made of 3/4 inch Type III tape have a sharp edge for the looms and will cut or wear you loop out twice as fast.

Take both harness and remove the risers. Now look at what is left attached to the harness. The Capewell looks like a big grappling hook waiting to snag the first thing it can. One of the big advantages of the three ring system that gets overlooked.

There is no load on the white loop to grip the cable until there is a load on the risers. If there was how would you hook up the risers? There is just the friction between the two components. My idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
