  1. If you replace happy with disfunctional I think you've hit the nail on the head. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  2. Doing this without a third reserve is a mistake in my opinion. It doesn't make a lot of sense for a jumper in MOST situations to cut away a perfectly functioning canopy when there are no promises that the reserve will function. BASE is a completely different sport with completely different rules and a completely different understanding or acceptance of risk. It doesn't compare to skydiving. Do you trust your reserve so much that you would be willing to skydive with ONLY your reserve? I don't. Look at only one year ago when a good portion of the Raven resreves were recalled. They're not perfect, they DO fail, and unfortunately when they do we do not have an easy way to get rid of them and deploy yet another parachite. The reserve is your last chance. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  3. Bill, BASE is a completely different story, and I believe irrelevant to this particular conversation. I'm curious, if you jumped and deployed your 'normal' reserve parachute, what would you do in the event that it malfunctioned? Suppose it put you into a violent spin, is your tertiary going to help? How do you plan to remedy that particular situation? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

    Lava Lamp

8? 8 barely generates a tingle. It starts getting interesting at 4 and it starts getting fun at 3, two is just painful and nothing more than a test of wills and well, one hurts. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  5. The real deal! It's an Alouette, and it belongs to the DZ. No more jumps from that tiny R44. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

My god, I thought the first rule of public restrooms was don't look! - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

    Lava Lamp

Heh. I do the same thing, only my lava lamp is a 6 1/2 gallon glass bucket of fermenting beer. It's sad, I know. :( - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  8. Nothing but rain down here in northern Delaware. It's not supposed to stop until at least Monday either. This is exceptionally sucky this weekend as the DZ just acquired a new (new to them) helicopter. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  9. If you 'very well know that the RESERVE is the last resort', then why ask the question? Why even suggest that anyone might want to consider doing a jump and ignoring their main parachute? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  10. Lisa, I'm not sure I agree with this, I believe that Slinks are certainly more than just fashionable these days. Slinks are stronger than their metal counterparts, and unlike their metal counterparts, when Slinks fail the failure is catastrophic. IMNSHO, this just makes Slinks the better choice. If you can't deal with the slider coming down, you can still install slider bumbers. You've mentinoed before that you don't pack for yourself, are you certain that you packer is checking the metal links before every jump? It sure would suck to find out that the packer missed something as you're coming onto final. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  11. Because people wanted a light beer that tastes better than Budmillcorrs light? So, has the quality of the other Sam's brews gone down since they started making the light? I don't understand why you would quit drinking a beer you liked just because the brewery started making one you don't. Lucky for me, my new brewery makes beers specifically tailored for me. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

    Air Combat USA

Anyone ever do this? It's too bad that jumping has sucked up almost all of my available funds, this looks like it would a lot of fun (and probably just as addictive as skydiving.) Air Combat USA - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  13. You can put this on the list of things that scare me. What do you think? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  14. What are you going to do with that hook knife? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  15. Tom, we're talking ultimately about making skydiving as safe as is reasonably possible for everyone right? If that's the case, then why support two certification programs, again, you're suggesting that a GM certified DZ is safer than a non-GM DZ and this just isn't necessarily the case. You seem to be still stuck on the idea that a GM DZ is a better DZ. Why? Why not remove the GM program and create a voluntary certification program, the Gold Seal you mentioned earlier? It's all who has? DZOs or Fun Jumpers? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  16. Agreed. I was under the impression that you had witnessed her beating her children. My bad. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  17. She's right, not only is your reserve is absolutely your last chance... * They don't always work. * If it malfunctions you can't cut it away. You've got the facts, you make the call. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

  19. No, this doesn't make sense. You can't claim that you've learned from your mistake and at the same time mention that you've gone out and bought ANOTHER case of Coors light. It just doesn't work that way! - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  20. Let's forget about the neighbor lady and think about the children. How would you feel if after your civil chit-chat with the neighbor lady she ended up actually physically injuring one of the children? I would be thrilled if one of my neighbors got the wheels rolling on an investigation if they suspected I was abusing my children. No shit - I'm serious about that. When the parents aren't looking out for the children someone else needs to. Too often children are injured, killed, or emotionally fucked up because someone who could speak up, didn't. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  21. Uh, yeah, that's a good idea. Let everyone know how it works out. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  22. Sorry to hear that. That sucks. Oh wait. No it doesn't. We're supposed to LEARN from our mistakes! Are you SURE it was the Mt. Dew? Dumbass. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  23. Dude. You write a letter when your neighbor rakes their leaves into your yard. You write a letter when when they have loud parties that keep you up all night. You write a letter when their dog pooped on your driveway. If this woman is beating her own children you owe it to the children to stand up and be their advocate as they currently have none. Do the right thing. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  24. Uh, sure. So, if you saw a robbery in progress would you stop in and kindly inform the robbers that you thought what they were doing was wrong, or would you call the police? If you saw a big kid beating on a smaller kid, would you tell him that you saw it and know what's going on, or would you do something to stop it? If you knew that there were children in danger and the source of danger was their mother, would you call or would you...... Oh wait, I guess you've already decided. Don't fuck with kids. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  25. National certification program my ass. :) A DZ should be able to stand soley on it's safety record, and they don't need the USPA for that. I can think of at least on non-GM DZ with an EXCELLENT safety record, a record that some GM DZs would like to have. It's not the USPA that makes a DZ safe, it's the people. Simply joining the GM program speaks nothing to me. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
