  1. What kind of human fuck-bag actually brags about hitting someone with their car? I'm glad he's in jail now, it's too bad really that he'll probably be out in 30 days or less. Do what you can to make sure this jerkoff pays the full penalty. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  2. Yes there was. No you don't. "I didn't think I needed to flare." Remember that one? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  3. I'd be happy to, but only because you asked. It was the Carolina Sky Sports 2001 Easter Boogie and somehow - God only knows how - Stacy managed to convince the kind folks from Atair that she knew something about how to fly a canopy. Well, her first jump, on a Cobalt 95, she misunderstood some simple directions about the flare and decided that she didn't need to flare at all. "Dan told me not flare" I think is what she said after jump number 1 on the Cobalt 95. The folks at Atair, being level headed and safety concious took the 95 away from our dear Stacy, it was too small and too fast, and what business did a girl who didn't flare have jumping a sub-100 ft canopy? Not being totally heartless though they gave a Stacy a quick lesson in flaring and hooked up a brand new Cobalt 120 to her little rig. Armed with this new knowledge of canopy control and her brand new Cobalt 120 our fair Stacy headed to the loading area, it was time to attempt a 41 way from 7K. The 41 way skydive completed without incident, but it was obvious that a few of the jumpers weren't going to make it back to the DZ - this is not uncommon at Carolina Sky Sports. Stacy found herself in a bad spot, she had a new canopy and was faced with a rather tight landing area. I don't know why, but she decided to hook turn, a snap 180 on the front riser, to set herself down in a field, unfortunately she fell into the hook-before-you-look mentality and right as the was planing out - **THUD** - *OWWWW* - *MOOOOOOOOooooo* - We found Stacy sitting dazed and confused next to, of all things, a COW! Thankfully both cow and skydiver were fine, the Cobalt 120 was also fine and returned back to Atair immediatly after that jump. Stacy went back to her boring Spectre 150 after that jump, never to swoop again. It's all true! Attached is a photo of what it might have looked like. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

  5. I would believe that. It's unfortunate too. Had I been thinking I might have taken the giant slider off of my Safire and put it on the Cobalt. I wonder if that would have tamed the openings, or just made a 3 cell canopy that doesn't open all the way? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  6. Actually, just to make this clear, you're not with me, entirely. It's true, I disliked the openings, but there are other Cobalt jumpers at my DZ who were as preplexed as I was when they heard about my opening troubles. However, once the canopy was open I absolutely LOVED the way it flew. The riser pressure was light, turns were responsive but not jerky or twitchy. A nice carving turn to final set me up for some incredible swoops (incredible to me. ). Over all, once it was open the canopy was very predictible and a dream to fly. Had I not had the opening issues that I did I would have bought on the spot. My loading on this canopy was about 1.5:1. Oh well, now I'm thinking about a Crossfire 2. We'll see how that goes. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

  9. I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner, but at least the ball is rolling now. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=578&e=1&cid=578&u=/nm/20021124/ts_nm/attack_saudi_dc - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  10. You're right, the uppers were screaming today. On my first jump today we got out two neighborhoods north of the DZ - I'm not sure how far it is in miles, but it's a ways. On that jump we opened at around 3K almost directly over the DZ - that's just freefall drift. Imagine jumping a student rig and opening at 5 or 5,500 - you would have most likely been going backwards and been forced to land off the DZ, not such a great idea while on student status. As for dealing with the waiting, it sucks. :) We've all been there before. I've found your best bet is to be there first thing in the morning, the winds are usually very calm then. If you can make it out during the week you'll usually get up a little quicker too. Good luck, - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  11. Tell me about it. :( I jumped away the money for a new rig this year. The 10 and 12 jump weekends have been replaced by 0 and 2 jump weekends. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

  13. 1:2:0 1: # of times that someone almost ran into me under canopy, on final. 2: Jumps made before the DZ realized my reserve was out of date. That sucked. It was surprisingly warm today in South Jersey. Good day for jumping, too bad my reserve was out of date. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

  16. Kinda like the Cypres, and the FXC, and the ProTrack, and even that simple altimeter you wear on your wrist? Sorry, but to say that this thing is 100% fail safe suggests to me that it hasn't been tested enough. There isn't a mechanical device on this planet that will not fail. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  17. Just curious, is that 10% off the MSRP of $1600.00? Not such a great deal really, actually I guess it's the same deal you can get from any Cobalt dealer. Good luck with the 170. I put a few jumps on that canopy a while back, had some serious opening issues, out of the 30 or so jumps I put on it I only got 2 of the 'two stage' openings, the rest were rather quick. The canopy is stable in twists as long as the risers are relatively even and it is a dream to fly. Had my demo not opened hard most of the time I would have bought it on the spot. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  18. Sounds like a load of crap to me. $25.00 just to sign the thing? That's absurd. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

  20. It's simple really. Imagine a DZ that didn't follow the basic rules, a DZ where fatalities were common and accidents even more so. Such a DZ would be shut down in a heart-beat by the local authorities, jumpers would have no where to go. It is in the DZ's and the jumper's best interests to adhere to at least basic safety regulations. The USPA doesn't actually regulate ALL of the sport skydiving in the US, rather they lobby the government on behalf of the Group Member dropzones and USPA Member skydivers to keep us in the air, but they don't have the power to shut down a DZ's operations. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. 21. 3 outs on each side before the inning is over. That's a total of 6 ours per inning. I missed that one too, and more than a few others.... - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
  22. That's not a bad idea. Maybe keep a 'watched threads' box/frame at the top of maybe the forums main page? That'd be nice. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

  25. Why have a USPA member moderate? In the interests of fairness we should have a disinterested party moderate such a forum. If moderation is even necessary I would suggest that the rules for moderation be VERY SPECIFIC. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
