Do you trust the USPA not to censor such a board hosted on the USPA website? I don't. On the other hand, I do really enjoy these political/policy discussions/debates right here on dz.com. I hope they don't just go away after the elections are over. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I'm still trying to sort out my feelings on this issue, however at this point in time I believe that the ideal BoD would be a 50/50 balance of fun jumpers and DZOs. The reasoning is that there are probably issues unique to both groups that would be best discussed and acted upon by the whole group. Does that make sense? It's an idea of balance, I think that's important. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

John bought the thing (it's not a winter rental,) so I'm guessing it will be there until he gets something bigger. I *heart* my dropzone. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

While this page doesn't provide a complete breakdown of the GM program you can see at least some of what they offer. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I don't think this is a new idea, since it's been made public that people think the GM program is losing money and it's never really been challenged, I'm willing to believe that it is. What I want to know though is HOW much money is it losing? It should be easy enough to figure out - total up the costs of all the benefits that the GMs receive and subtract that from the income they provide. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. If I were you I would wait at least 80 or 100 jumps before diving head first into any one discipline. Think about it, you've just completed AFF, how do you know which discipline is your favorite? Get out and play a little, get to know people in ALL disciplines before you devote a lot of time and energy to one of them. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

What exactly does it cost to run just the GM program? How much are we putting out to support it? If elected, how do you propose to eliminate the GM program? Thanks - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Are you sure it wasn't 310? I can't believe YOU only scored a 130! Something's wrong, take it again! - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

A two seater PITTS.... For now. BTW: We do have a balloon, it's just a pain in the ass to get the pilot to fly it. In his defense of course it's a pain in the ass for him to find jumpers to provide a competent ground crew. I almost forgot to mention, we've even been known to have a MIG on site once or twice. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

You're kidding right? One of the best things about the USPA in my opinion, is that they're not the BPA. I've seen the rules and regulations that the BPA has, no thank you. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

ND Candidate available to answer questions

Here's a question I'm surprised hasn't come up yet. How do you feel about OUR SIM not being available in it's entirety on line? It has been in previous years, why the change now? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -

Bill, You're reading entirely too much into this. I asked Buzz specifically why we should trust that he won't vote for mandatory AAD usage when he already requires it at his own DZ. Exactly where did I mention Bill that I thought Buzz was the only candidate who would try to take his local DZ rules and implement them on a widespread basis? I've read and re-read my post and I don't see it. If there were other candidates here who said the believed in one thing and their actions showed differently I would ask them the same question. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. Here's goes... You said: 'Probably the most controversial point about me is that my Drop Zone is Cypres Required.' and then in the same paragraph you say this: 'I hear it all the time that if elected I might vote to make USPA AAD required. Nothing can be further from the truth.', and this: 'I believe in personal freedoms.'. How can we as skydivers be expected to believe this? You claim to belive in personal freedoms, yet you restrict them at your own DZ. I don't get it. If you're perceived as deceptive on this issue how can we trust you on others? I believe to really know a man we should look at his actions, not his words. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -
I don't know if that's exactly true or not. If we assume that your main malfunctions once every 500 jumps, could we also assume the same for your reserve? I think I read somewhere (and who knows how true it is) that the reserve parachute malfunctions at approximately the same rate as the main parachute. The difference here is that you're much more likely to be jumping your main than your reserve. Anyone with hard data who can validate or refute that statistic? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
-
Because at that point the reserve is your best option for survival. During a low altitude escape you need a parachute over your head immediatly, you could easily burn up 600 ft or more with a modern main, the reserve parachute is designed to open in less than 300 I believe. You are correct, the reserve is repacked by a rigger every 120 days, so what? Riggers are human and make mistakes, just like you and me. Do you think people with malfunctioning mains packed them to malfunction intentionally? When you use your reserve it is your last chance at survival, it needs to work. Other than that there's no other reason you're trusting your life to it. You didn't think that the reserve parachute never malfunctioned did you? See my post above with a link to a fatality due at least in part to a reserve malfunction. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
-
I do trust my reserve, as much as I trust my main. My main has opened perfectly over 300 times since the last time it didn't. I know that reserves malfunction, one only needs to look at the incident reports to understand this as fact. I also know that there's no sense in trading a perfectly functioning parachute for a parachute that _might_ work, for a parachute that will _probably_ work. It's just not worth it. Speaking of reserve malfunctions, one only needs to look to our very own Incidents forum. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

I would much rather have my abrasive slinks fail on opening than have them come apart on final or flare. I'm guessing it's another way that Ikea keeps costs down. These days Ikea is sought after enough that people are willing to drive quite a distance to get there, putting it out in the middle of nowhere lets Ikea keep costs down and pass those savings directly to the customers. Just a guess though, who knows, maybe the manager just liked that area. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
