You would be wise I think to ignore what people put in their profile and instead pay more attention to the advice or experience offered. The profile is voluntary and not likely to be accurate. If my profile read that I had a low D-license number and 10,000 jumps would you be more likely to listen to me? What if I had the low D license number, high jumps, and gave out what you thought to be terrible advice? Would you still listen to me? Ignore what people do or don't put in their profile and evaluate what you find here on it's merit. If you're unsure, ask. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Unfortunately I dunno if all those stats are available. :( Do you know how they turned out? If the RSL were unreliable as I think you might believe that it is there's a pretty good chance that the skydving community at large would have phased it out by now. Duh. You obviously didn't do it long enough. Sheesh, 20 minutes per day, every day. Some people just can't learn.... - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Just go and smile at yourself for 20 minutes, you won't be depressed anymore. I read that on the innernet. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

If you look hard enough you'll always find cases where an otherwise reliable piece of equipment failed, or caused another component to fail or function improperly. For example, if you take the number of clean RSL deployments over the number of failed RSL deployments you'll see (I think) that the RSL is a fairly reliable device. I wouldn't base my decision to use or not use a piece of safety equipment on a few people's bad experiences. Do you jump with a Cypres? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. She'll have to catch me first. I think I'm pretty safe. I don't think it has anything to do with you Allen. "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Because (a) it's not cool, and (b) it's not easily available to many. I think that both are changing and that's a good thing. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Is it advanced skydivers, or skydivers with money and a cool new toy? Anyhow, I looked on their website and I couldn't find the sampling interval for the altimeter. Altitude goes by pretty quickly on a skydive, not so quickly on a slow climb. How accurate are they, in freefall and under canopy? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. Why? Is it a bigway where half the people are tandem passangers? I can see how maybe they might not get a choice. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -
Cutaway is a neat video, but I'm thinking that when the time comes to cutaway you'll probably know it. After all, you were taught to do a controlability check after the canopy is open, weren't you? If you can't control the canopy then away it goes, do students need a video to tell them that? I hope not. Good idea to make AFF students watch? I think AFF students would be better served by a video that explained what ISN'T a malfunction. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

The one time I saw that thing fly it was more like dirt .. water .. dirt .. dirt .. dirt .. dirt .. dirt .. dirt .. dirt .. dirt .. .. .. .. I wondered if that thing would _ever_ stop flying. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Next question though is how much of that was canopy and how much was pilot? Either way, it was truely impressive. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

Ya know what, if we grounded for life everyone who ever fucked up we wouldn't have a lot of skydivers. If we grounded for life everyone who fucked up an AFF level 1 we'd have even fewer. Take a look back at your progression, have you never made a mistake? Something about glass houses and rocks.... - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

New Skydiver's Question...About Reserve Chute
Jimbo replied to Kramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
450:1 It was a low speed malfunction that I probably could have landed, now. Back then getting rid of it seemed like the thing to do. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. -

Search this forum for posts made by SkyMonkeyONE and you'll find the answer. The short of it, I believe, is that they're getting better results using rear risers and a transition to toggles at the end. - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.

July 2003 USPA Board Meeting Highlights
Jimbo replied to quade's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thanks for clarifying that, I appreciate it. How was Skydive Arizona chosen? Was there another bidding window where other DZs submitted bids to the USPA to potentially host the event? - Jim "Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
