Thanks! But it's really, really cool to see your progress throughout and finally 'graduation day' as you march out of the clinic for the last time...

should dz make tandem mandatory first jump?
ltdiver replied to freeryde13's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
True. One of the most interesting FJC's I taught was attended by the highest level person (jet fighter pilot from France) and the lowest (complete wuffo who's grasp of the English language was scattered at best). The pilot wanted to just do one Level I skydive to get to know how to handle a parachute in case he needed to fly one down after deployment from an disabled jet. The 'wuffo' just wanted a joy ride. Guess who got the tandem? And guess who got the pilot chute hesitation and handled it just the way a very experienced aviator should. What an interesting day. Some could do with a one hour FJC. Others need to be shown the door. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon -
Interesting. Nobody believed me when I said my Spectre-135 loaded at 1.4 had an opening problem. Sent it in for a re-lining after 450 jumps and it came back doing about the same thing. I consulted several riggers about this and no advice they gave fixed the problem. It was a -packer- who came up with a different way of packing it that 'cured' the problem. Now I won't use any other packer, as this one can get me on short calls and take care of my neck at the same time. Thanks for validating my canopy's problem. Everyone thought I must be nuts. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

Patience, dear Jedi. The engines have been fired up on many an occasion. They make the ground SHAKE when Ben revs them up. As for the timing. Ask the FAA. They're the ones holding the purse strings. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

Interesting. I guess I must be growing younger by the day! At the University (read 22 years ago), I was extremely focused and controlling of my time and surroundings. My friends even remind me how my b/f was kept in tow. However, now that time has gone by and more life experiences have traveled across the bridge, I find myself alot more tolerant and understanding of others behavior...understanding that they can be different and that's great! I put the control on myself, but not on others. Life has too much to offer than to be stuck in one place, with set patterns of behavior for the rest of your life. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

Didn't you get the memo? Apparently video and stills a free now, cause we're all "one big happy family". At least that's what Dom told me. Dubs (as many as needed) are free too. Akkkkk!!! Guess I won't be doing those rig-repairs any time soon, then... ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

While all this is completely disgusting and appalling, wasn't war 'easier' when the media wasn't involved...and didn't have instant ability to broadcast happenings across the globe with a touch of a button... ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

Can't get through AFF - I can't turn :(
ltdiver replied to rob's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Rob, Here is a nice web page with visuals that might aid you in your learning. My advice is to take the arm turns and do them for your Level II skydive. The leg turns can come later. -
That’s like saying there is no difference in going for a Sunday drive and driving a car for a sponsored race team. The difference is that one is a hobby and one is a job. It’s ok to suck at your hobby. It’s not ok to suck at your job. Any freakshow with a few jumps can strap on a POV cam on their head – that does not mean they can do it for a living. When the camera is just along for the ride there is no expectation of results. If someone pays you to capture their first skydive or any other skydive for that matter, there ARE expectations. You have to be able to deliver a quality product to a paying customer – BIG DIFFERENCE. I was stating the fact of safety and nothing else in my reply. Think about it. I was not inferring what you supposed and replied with. That is a different topic altogether and -not- what he was seeking advice for. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

First, if you do a search on these topics you'll find oodles of stuff on both these topics. The advise hasn't changed through the years. Human nature is human nature. 1) IMHO, there is no difference in flying for hire or 'just along for the ride'....except that in one you're getting paid, the other not. A distraction is just that, no matter if you go up thinking "I'll just let the tape roll". 2) I don't like separate lens/camera set-ups. Just one more thing to hang-up in a cutaway scenario. Ever heard of KISS? (Keep It Simple Stupid!). There are others who have differing opinions. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

Can't get through AFF - I can't turn :(
ltdiver replied to rob's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Damn, I remember asking the same question of my instructor many moons ago. 'How do you turn in the air?' (I had learned to skydive through S/L). He chuckled at me and said, "Just fly there!" It wasn't until I attended 'Skydive University" that I finally got it. Oh, I could turn before then, but not the 'proper way'... You have some terrific advice here on your thread. I support the wind tunnel idea, if you can afford it. Wish it had been around when I was a newbie! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon -
Yes, it was a paragliding stunt. My local news also called it a 'skydiving world record' and I rushed over from the other room only to see a paraglider under canopy in flight being shown. And yeah, 33,000' from a balloon was mentioned in the same breath. It didn't get posted here 'cause we all know Cheryl Sterns is going to break the -real- record soon.

They -should-, but it seems that they aren't. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

Better not let Jan hear you say this! She knows one of the jumpers who was denied...is a friend of his...and knows he is very current and in very good health at 78 years old. She was HOPPING mad today at the DZ over his denial. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

New camera suit - what do you think?
ltdiver replied to StevePhelps's topic in Photography and Video
Just looking for constructive advice for your readers in this forum. If you're going to criticize, then post advice on how to do it better. Not just run someone down for no reason. I find praise works better in getting people to reform, not negativity. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon -
New camera suit - what do you think?
ltdiver replied to StevePhelps's topic in Photography and Video
So why don't you model for us and show us how it's done -right-. (since you seem to know). ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon -
How TRUE! The very first time I strapped a camera helmet to my head and climbed out of a Caravan I thought my head was going to rip off...or it was going to drag me off the plane! And it was only a daBomb with a TRV8 in a dbox. Now, over 1400 camera jumps later, I don't feel anything on my head that's dragging or unusual....just a normal climb out and launch. Even with the digital still camera added. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

Reminds me of my older sister who I shared a room with growing up. We had bunk beds. She set the rules and got the top bunk in the winter months and the bottom bunk in the summer. Bully! ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

And its a good thing they did leave when they did. Can you say 'guilt by blood relationship'? Some people don't remember history on the subject. Read it HERE. Saying OBL's family is guilty of terrorism is like implying my mom and dad are skydivers just because I am. Like Gaiwan stated: The Bin Laden family has revoked their son's citizenship and turned their back on him. Just because he is their son does not make them guilty of the same things he is. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
