Did you take a canopy control class?
skycat replied to Michele's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
You don't have to jump a highly loaded canopy to take a class. Derek's course is actually geared toward the person with under 200 jumps, who is trying to learn how to be a safer canopy pilot He also teaches gear maintenance and things like that to make it a very rounded course. You would be surprised at how many people with your jump numbers might be able to land the canopy, but still haven't learned how to really control the canopy. Fly it like you stole it! -
I'm with you Jim, I've hired a packer maybe 6 or 7 times, and every time I've had just funky shit happen, like a riser hanging up under the reserve container (not possitive where, some squirming cleared it), they rolled the nose on my crossfire after I told them to do nothing to it (1 and only packjob not by me or Derek on that canopy), and just other little things that bugged me like hard pulls. My biggest petpeeve though is the packers that drag your rig across the floor when they stow the lines, it might be faster for them, but when it is my $4000 rig, I'm treating it like gold. Ohhhh....say it again.....say it again.... *drool* BitchX! So...here's the real test to see if we'll last....are you a KDE or a Gnome kind of girl? You mean there is something else than a command line shell . I've never actually used Gnome, although I should try it since it's made by the GNU peeps. When I built my last Linux box (Mandrake) I used KDE and never thought about it again. Plus, with my linux box in TX I'll have to wait till I build one up here which could be awhile, and we use sunblades at work so that always keeps things interestings, especially when you forget which command goes to which box. Actually all the canopies I've jumped open softer in a track. It could be due to the fact that I'm under 90mph in a track when I dump. That list includes crossfires, stilettos and cobalts, Derek also swears by it on his VX. Personally I didn't like the opening characteristics of the cobalt or the fact that if you didn't pack it just so it smacked the hell out of me and spun up like a top. Fly it like you stole it!

Sorry, you lost me on that one He is talking about TequilaGirl coming up to visit me and break a few boys while she would be up here breaking a record. You are safe Steve, she will be in Alabama or somewhere like that in court (she works for a law firm) Fly it like you stole it!

Question for Coloroado and SC jumpers about flying.
skycat replied to nubain1's topic in The Bonfire
Well I think it is cause the airlines can help with getting a rig on board if it is allowed. Flying out of San Diego 2 years ago the security gate said rigs are not allowed on the planes. Well I had Continental's bagage claim policy with and went back to the counter. After the guy looked at his own policy he escorted me threw security telling them that rigs were allowed on the plane. No kidding. I saw a student cut away from a mal where the spring loaded PC came over the nose and wrapped around the slider. Had that happen 4 times in a row on student status, didn't wrap around the slider, but did wrap around several a & B lines. As you can guess I'm a HUGE advocate of throwout for students. Sorry, I prefer IRC, cause like others I don't need to get another email that will sell my real email adress to spam companys, and I don'thave to use a web based client which is slow compared to the IRC client. Fly it like you stole it!

Derek has emailed them several times about doing some test jumps for them under his 60 to see if he would/could cause it to fire. They haven't responded back to him yet. Last I heard he was thinking about calling them. Fly it like you stole it!

Ok here is a rumor I heard from a lady who works over by the theater..... Jefco, is throwing a hissy fit about it being in their pattern, which is why ground hasn't broke on it yet. Remember this is only a rumor, and who knows if there is any truth to it at all. Fly it like you stole it!

Don't forget to make the canopy work for you. When laying down on the canopy squishing the air out of it, look for the tape that runs from the bridle attachment point to the ribs. Then take the ears (that material at the top of the canopy that goes everywhere) and stuff them in the pocket that is created behind the tape on the center cell. Now the center cell is holding all the rest of the top of the canopy in place. From there follow canuck's instructions on folding the top half 1st, putting that in the D-bag, then the bottom half and putting that in the D-bag. I've used this on every canopy I've ever jumped wether it's new ZP or old. I have really small hands and with this I have no problem controling anything from my new crossfires (I'd never psycho pack a crossfire) to the 1st packjob on Steve's sabre2 170. I don't think that email works. I've emailed him twice now to the email address about an improperly made pilotchute (tapes not sewn on the bias) that I have that was made by him and have not heard back from him. Fly it like you stole it!

Amen Brother!! While we do have an affiliation with 1 DZ, we are not on site and consider ourselves an independent loft. It involves arranging pick-ups at different DZs, having software that can track your customers and their repack/cypres schedules so you can anticipate material needs. Proper record keeping of customer information to allow us to give customers a heads up with things like 4-year maintenances are due. Scheduling and time management so things like weight belts are made on time. Well thats all the stuff that I do anyway Don't even get me started on our out of state customers, which require even more planning, so they don't have any down time. Or we try for no down time anyway. Fly it like you stole it!

btw....it's ok to love your rigger....just don't loooooove your rigger. Unless I can shoot video. Fly it like you stole it!
