  1. One thing to remember with the Z1 is that they run small. While I wear a small factory diver I wear a medium Z1. Fly it like you stole it!
  2. Being in that weight range (105 lbs) I always recommend to smaller girls to not go smaller than a 135 as a 1st canopy, if and only if they were able to downsize to the 150 range as a student with an instructor coaching them. If all you jumped were 200s, then a 150 is the smallest you should go as a 1st canopy. Canopy training is the key, on 200s you don't learn anything other than point the nose into the wind, on 150s you can learn what your heavier counterparts learned on 200s. After that downsize sensibly, perferibly with canopy coaching. Fly it like you stole it!
  3. hmmm...saw the rules were redone, but nothing about new moderators. *shrug* If we have some, we should welcome them and make them owe beer. Fly it like you stole it!
  4. I saw grosfion is green, but I don't think I've ever seen him/her post anything. So do we hav a new moderator? Fly it like you stole it!
  5. I'm not 100% sure on the Pell alone, but I received one every year + some scholarships and always got a check after everything that the school was going to take out was removed. The college I went to didn't remove the money for books them selves I had to buy them with the check they gave me, they just took out for classes and housing, so when I moved off campus, I got a bigger check those semesters. 6. Those are colorado plates. Fly it like you stole it!
  7. Actually this is really common with spring loaded pilot chutes and really under loaded canopies. Since there isn't enough weight to get the canopy moving forward during the opening sequence the canopy in effect stalls and the pilot chute lands on the top skin then rolls down the front to inflate and wrap around lines. I had it happen 4 times, but luckly I was able to counter the turn and have a nice PLR, I do know one girl though that did have to cutaway because she couldn't control the turn it caused. Now a collapsible throw out pilot chute would have fixed this, except that the rig I jumped was so large I couldn't have reached the BOC if I wanted to. Fly it like you stole it!
  8. Only thing that saved me (I jumped those exact same really huge student rigs you did) was that I was a gymnast and it was actually easier for me to PLF backwards than forwards. On the other hand only was able to have 1 stand up landing on those silly huge ass things cause I was never going forward. Ofcourse you never lived till your rig slips off both shoulders when you go to track, which made those rigs extremely dangerous for really small people to jump. I mean not learning canopy control due to the size is one thing, gear coming off is another. Fly it like you stole it!
  9. Put your rig on and tighten everything up and shrug your shoulders.....then loosen your leg straps some and shrug your shoulders again. I bet you will notice a difference. If you read any of hooknswoops articles on tracking he recommends doing this. Shrugging your shoulders to your ears while tracking increases surface area and allows you to track farther. How do I know this works, I used to be a super tight legstrap wearer, then I started loosening them, now I can out track pretty much anyone, including hooknswoop. I just get tired before he does so on from altitude tracking contests he wins. Fly it like you stole it!
  10. It allows you to really roll you shoulders up to your ears, which will give you a longer and flatter track. I wear my leg straps about that loose, but I have a peice of bungy between the legstraps to keep them from sliding down my legs. Fly it like you stole it!
  11. I'd love to help, but I got screwed at work...I'm currently in my 10th strait day of working and I have 8 more to go. Fly it like you stole it!

  13. I think if they keep the touching to only nessesary adjustments, (tandem harnesses seem to have tons of straps) and tell the students what they are doing and have the student hold the harness in the right possition while they tighten things down, the student will be more at ease. Also what Derek does when a small female AFF student needs her leg straps tied together is call me over to explain how to do and and show her the 1st time. Fly it like you stole it!
  14. one word...yes Sent it back to mirage and 2 weeks to the day I sent it they had it back to me with a whole new harness and backpad. Fly it like you stole it!
  15. Personally I'm thinking about ways to distract him from whatever he is trying to think about. Fly it like you stole it!
  16. Ok, I do have short arms, so here is what I have done. 1) Reach up the risers on the side where the grommet has come down the farthest grab the corner then work my way to the middle and collapse the slider. 2) On the 22-inch risers were that didn't work I would grab the left rear riser with my right hand and pull it down slightly while I stretched up the riser with my left hand grabbing the corner of the slider. 17. This whole web sit is to funny....I told Derek I can't date him anymore cause it's summer and we were just hiber-dating. BWAHAHAHAHAHA http://www.askmen.com/dating/curtsmith_60/70_dating_advice.html Fly it like you stole it!
  18. Also check out the 2-out tests that hooknswoop did last year and posted the results here. The PD tests were done with 2 very large mains, the ones hook did were with a Stiletto 97 and a PD 170. Fly it like you stole it!
  19. Try wearing a rash guard you know like the ones motorcross guys and surfers wear. It could be the rig causing the t-shirt to chafe. Fly it like you stole it!
  20. Whats wrong with swooping water? Because even if you do the perfect swoop your gear still gets wet, and he refuses to get his gear wet. Fly it like you stole it!
  21. hahah...probably the only time he did it, and probably only did it to scare the kids. Fly it like you stole it!
  22. I'll look around for some video from the ground, but it is really rare that he is in the air without the camera and I'm on the ground. (he wears video on all AFF jumps and most fun jumps) We usually make a few jumps a month for both of us to stay current and to keep his ratings current, but other than that we rarely jump anymore. But this video was shot only like 3 weeks ago when the 2 of us were out sitflying. As for the swoop competition, no no one told Derek about it until we got out there and they were on round 2. So after they did round 2 where the most cones hit were 2, Derek was on the next load, and decided to swoop the course he hit all 4 cones and his canopy landed in the center of the target. When he went inside all the competitors started whining that the winds were to high and bumpy for them to really get good swoops. (to cut them some slack, the winds were 14 gusting to 20) After Jason heard Derek hit all 4 he asked Derek to join them in the pond swooping, all Derek said is "I don't swoop water" and we went home after that. So as of round 2, no injuries, lots of out of control landings and butt slides though. They did call the next round for winds though, cause I think it was the distance round. We have Pinnacle Studio 8 which came free with my new computer, I know some people don't like it, but it was FREE so no complaints from me. Actually it's super easy to use, it didn't come with a book or anything, and if Derek can sit down and start making an all about him video with me just showing him the basic steps he needs to do.....it is easy to use software. As for speeding or slowing the video down. I haven't figured out how to do that with the software yet, I can slow it down with the camera, but that is about it. That video is in real time speed and nothing was distorted with the video...he really does start his hook at about 1000ft. Fly it like you stole it!
  23. It's off the XXX soundtrack, it's called Get Up Again by Flaw. Fly it like you stole it!
