I agree 100% with all of this. I think for a "D" you should do a cutaway. Before you get rid of an RSL you should do a cutaway and land with both handles pulled. CRW is good for more than just 2 out....How about collisions? Agreed, but it is still a risk.....I have never HAD to land rear risers (2,600 jumps). but I have used them a lot for CRW Demos...ect... But I would not recomend doing using them for landing unless you had to....Just a differance of opinion here...But I don't do "Horny Gorillas" anymore after seeing some nasty shit on one. Some still do them, but it is not worth the unneeded risk for me. Ron "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

I agree with what you are saying, but not in practice. It is kinda like saying "Cutaway a few times before you have a mal. That way you will be better able to handle it when your main does mal." I think that for most people a rear riser landing is an emergency. I don't think most people will ever want to try it low, there is a high risk of getting hurt for no reason. Yes you should use the hell out of them high, but once you get to say 700 or so feet get into a landing configuration. Call Skydive City or check the web page www.skydivecity.com They are holding 30-60 way camps about once a mth to select people for the 2 point 120 way in March... Ron "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

I had a talk with someone on this from the FAI... I asked them why do they allow male Video for female events... I was told that there were not enough good female video people around.... So I asked "So men are better than women??? I don't agree with that." She said "No, but there are more qualified male video jumpers..." I asked "So a female can't learn it?" She said "Well, maybe not in time for the world meet." I didn't agree, and still don't. Video person is a part of the team...Then the female team should have a female video person. 100% men... One of them had long hair...Ray And one acts gay...Carlos Can't really understand any of them, they are from England, Puru, Sweden, and Germany. I am the lone American....Well Ray and Carlos are now. However I think women can skydive as good as men,and think the womens class is STUPID as hell. Sally Hathaway's first team was with us in 98.....I knew she had what it took back then. Women can do as good as men...they have proven it..... You in, or been in the military????? Its a different thing to say that if you have been ready to go down range where the rounds fly both ways. I was on DRF 1 during 9/11...We were ready to go, and would have if they said go. Locked, cocked, and ready. But we didn't WANT to go..... When you look left, and look right...and realize that at least one of them, maybe you, will not be comming home. I think this is something that should be done, and done right....but I am not happy about it. Ron Former 11B B 2/325 AIR 82nd Airborne. Which I have just been told just shipped out to Kuwait. I agree with eveything you said....Why do people ask advice of people that don't know them? And some people who give advice here really should not. More posts than jumps...kinda like Armchair QB's on monday. Yes these days....but about 10 years ago on my 13th freefall jump it was my own rig with out an AAD,RSL, or helmet. I had a borrowed Jumpsuit, an alti, and a pair of goggles. Yehaw Ron "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

He is right...read it again. The control RANGE is less, not less control...And it will stall sooner, with less warning...and violent as hell. Ron "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

I personally think there should be a time in sport requirment for an I rating... I know a lot of people that have the 6 hrs, and the skills to fly well enough to pass an AFF course, but they know almost nothing about the sport. I think there should be some time in sport requirment...maybe 2 or 3 years. Tandems do it....why not AFF/SL? That has happened to me at BSA....I was driving from Ft.Bragg to DeLand, and planned on stoping and spending a day at BSA.... There was not a single person there on a very nice Sat. The King Air was being maintained... That really did suck....Of course I just rolled on to DeLand. Get with Kurt Gaebel WWW.skyleague.com He has a "team network" listing... But most of it has to do with being at a place that like minded people hang out at... I moved from Memphis, TN. to Florida for that reason. Then I goofed up and moved to Zhills, which has never been a "Team" DZ...Its for Freaks, and Fun. But there are good people there (Sally Hathaway, Bob Healy, and Steve Johnson) You just have to look for them. Get some people at the DZ you are at and start doing 2 ways...Then when you get 2 more you have a team. Good luck! Cool no problem....I have been told I am very confident...(OK they said cocky as hell)...Oh, well Im over it. I agree..Its why I still jump...I never said you knew it all. Oh good god no....If I even thought I knew it all I'd quit. I always learn new things....And as soon as I think I'm a god....I do a Freefly jump and realize I still suck, or watch an Airspeed tape. OK, but this is the first time I EVER said ANYTHING about your EXP..... Because experience is something you don't have in SKYDIVING...which is unlike any other thing you have done. Flying is close, but not really. Why is it I can avoid a personal attack on you? Good....But then why did you jump my case? I have done what I wrote, and I never blame the canopy....What would you say if I bounced a Cessna 150 all over the runway, and then said. "My Bonanza lands so much better"? I would tell the guy its the pilot, not the plane. True...but how do you define what risks are OK? Me, I use almost 10 years worth of seeing people get hurt in SKYDIVING. Almost everyone of them asks. "Why didn't you tell me it was a bad idea?"...To which I respond "I did, you didn't listen". I don't say that to rub it in...Its fact. Nope, I think its great...But a pilot license does not equate to canopy control...Yes I personally think it helps a lot, but I have seen may pilots smack in...myself included. I don't hate you....Hell I don't know you. But I do have a problem with people with not much time in sport, and not a lot of jumps saying things as fact. I don't know everything....But I would venture that I know more about SKYDIVING than you....I would never try to tell you about rock climbing, or tell you how to ski...I don't do that...How would you react to me telling people that they should go ahead and ski a dangerous slope? Or free climb something above their level?....I bet the same way. I also don't get why people ask questions here...most of us don't know them, and so we should not be giving advice. And most people on here have WAY more posts than jumps, and maybe should not be giving advice. Why are you insulting me??? Because I don't agree with you? Thats pretty lame. Anyway if you with your 100 jumps....Feel that your right. Cool, but your not. Nope.....speed can be used to transition to lift, but lift is created by the shape of the wing, and in a smaller part to Newtons 3rd law. Still speed just ADDS to the problem...If you can't land the big canopy...you will create more problems with a faster one... But I guess I don't know anything......According to you and 100 jumps. Look at the fatality reports from last year... Someone please put the URL up...I don't have it, and wouldn't know how to add it if I did. Anyway the largest segment of people who died last year were under good canopies....The average # of jumps and wingload? 300 jumps with a 1.5. You can always jump tomorrow if you don't die today. I helped hold a guys leg together on his 100th jump when he was jumping a canopy that some people told him was to small. Two broken bones, a skin graft, and a 107,000 medical bill later...he said "I wish I didn't jump that canopy, but I felt OK with it." Get the bigger canopy and be safe. Probley fact... A guess from you about this....Why is it I can land anything from a 69 to a tandem canopy with out blaming a bad landing on the canopy...but others think it is the equipment? Fact is a smaller canopy only ADDS to the landing issues. It might make the flare easier, but the timing becomes more important. Between the two...Get a wings For 50.00 more you have a (my opinion) better looking rig. For 50.00 more you have a better rig (again my opinion). For 50.00 more you can have a rig with some level of custom design. The Tempo is a good reserve (take a wrap on the lines for landing if you use it). The Hornet is a good starter canopy. The Vector (in my opinion) is the best designed rig. They had riggers and Engineers working on it. RW seems to always be the company that invents the big things in gear...Throw out PC's, 3 rings, the Sigma....ect....but you didn't ask about the Vector. Well I throw my opinion in here... Yes if you make very few jumps per mth you are in a much greater risk of getting hurt, or hurting someone else. Currency is a large factor in safe skydiving. However currency can be very hard to keep, and "current" can vary from person to person based on past experience, total experience, and attitude. A person with 100 jumps that has not jumped in a mth vs a person with 1000 jumps that has not jumped in a mth. The person with 1000 jumps has a much better skills set to draw on, and most likley will be safer. The longest I have gone with out a jump is 12 weeks (thanks US Army). I had 1500 jumps, and I felt uncurrent as hell jumping out of the plane. But the way that you approach the lack of currency is the largest factor. Ignore it....and you could end up hurt. Pay attention to it, and take care...You could be fine. There is no "safe" way to skydive....Risks can be reduced, but they will always be there. If that is to much for anyone that skydives to grasp...think about it...People who are current with thousands of jumps die. Sometimes they screw up, and other times...shit just happens. You can do everything right, and still die. Ron "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
