Well, lets see. The DZ I live on has 3 Otters and a Porter. The DZ I train at (1 1/2 hrs away) has an Otter, a Porter, and a Skyvan. Another DZ about an Hr away has 2 Otters or an Otter and a CASA. Well in my opinion, if the person is willing to join the Army to defend this county..(and it does work this way sometimes) Then he is a citizen, and should be treated as such... So not over, but equal. If the native born person is not willing to fight for his country...Well, that is a seperate issue, but it is his right AS AN AMERICAN to decline. Yes, and my Mom loves me! Well, my Great,great, grandparents come over LEGALLY. And I was born here, and served in the Army here...I pay taxes here.....Yep I'm an American..Just like one of my best friends that came here from Peru LEGALLY, and became a citizen. I also have avery good friend from Sweden...Who is here LEGALLY. And about a dozen or so friends that are here LEGALLY. Being an american is not about where you were born, or what your background is....Its about being apart of the larger picture and promissing to protect the freedoms that you were given by risking your life if asked. I used to have one back when I had about 500 jumps. I am in freefall, and I got o deploy my main. It opens with a mal, basicly a big ball of shit. I reach for the cut away and reserve. Pull the cut away,and pull the reserve. I see the reserve starting to come out......I see the ground, then everything goes black. I had a friend of mine that had a joke hell dream he always talked about... He shows up on the weekend for a boogie....The Main aircraft has broken and all they have is a 182. He waits all day, and finaly they manifest a hop n pop. The plane climbs SLOW AS HELL. It takes 30 min, and they only get 1,800 feet. The door opens, and it is cold as hell!. He and his buddy climb out and try to launch a 2 way...It funnels, and they are all over the sky. He tracks to deploy his main, and it mals. He cuts away and deploys the reserve...IT mals. He slams into the ground feeling all of the pain of hitting, but with no real damage.....As he gets up....He is on a 5 min call, and still has to pack. I have to agree here... It is a shame that this person died....But in truth she was going to die anyway.. The medical team screwed the pooch big time. I have to agree with slut here.... If you are going to get a new canopy...Demo the same SIZE you have now in that make. It is an old gimmick to give a guy a smaller canopy than he has now and let him jump it. When he lands with it and is so happy about the "higher" performance, he thinks that it was the make, not the size. If you want a new canopy....jump a few different types at the same size.....Then jump whta you have now, at a smaller size and the others if you can.... The most important thing is to find a conopy TYPE that you like, then get a wingload that is safe for your experience and fun. Well I never said YOU said people who jump without a CYPRES are stupid....Sorry if you took it that way. But there are people who DO say things like that. I agree, if you can afford one I think you should get one. But I don't tell people to get one, and if someone does not have one, I don't tell them they should get one. Some people don't trust them, others just don't like them. I like them, I have one rig with one and one without. But if a person chooses not to have one it is that persons right. I will not force it on them. And this is off topic a little...But as for a DZO that requires them...I think it is perfectly fine for them to do that. You have the choice not to jump there. Just like if you don't like Coke, they make Pepsi. I don't think that the USPA should ever say squat about jumpers having an AAD once they have a license. Well I'm done...eveyone have a good time. What part of this do you not understand as stupid? The student did a stupid thing....Students do that sometimes. But still the one thing you learn at a FJC is to PULL open a parachute. What is so hard about that? Am I glad that a CYPRES saved his ass? Yep, sure am. But he still did something stupid....Do you not agree he was stupid? He screwed up...Don't you agree he screwed up? Well the sport has been around long before this cool black box...and it will be around long after its gone, or become a doorstop. Not everyone can afford them. Not everyone LIKES them. I can't blame him for not having a CYPRES....I can fault him for doing a stupid thing by following a student below the hard deck. Skydiving was around a long time before CYPRES was invented....And I will jump with or without one. If you feel you need one, maybe you should spend more time thinking about what you are doing. I HATE when people say things like "I will not jump without a CYPRES...and you are stupid for doing it". Well, If you don't trust yourself fine...But to call me stupid? I am a safe skydiver...ask anyone that knows me. I don't think a CYPRES is needed for me to be safe, and I feel safe without one.
