  1. Yep, back when Style and ACC was the only comp...Women were still expected to be barefoot and pregnant. Once something gets started its hard to stop it. I think the Female class is stupid as hell. (Now I am friends with 3 of the current US team, and love them and are glad for them, but I still think its a stupid class). Its saying that women are weaker. I think Lise Aune, Eliana, Dawn English, Stearns, The woman from PD Sanapsi and the women on the Russian team...ect. Would dissagree. And so do I. However as long as the IPC sanctions an female event I hope the US sends a team....Which will be harder this next year since the USPA says that a womens team will have to place better than the female Bronze at the prior world meet to be the US team... Again the USPA doing stupid things. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  2. Go there when you are not team training. If you don't know people there you will be doing solos. It has been like this since 1995 when I started going there. For teams it rocks...like no place I have ever been. I have been on teams at two different DZ's and DeLand is almost impossible to beat. However when it comes to fun jumps...You either know people, or you can be screwed. It is also hard to meet people when they split right after jumping. Now I consider myself a local there (Less this year than last). And it is true that if you show up without a team on a normal weekend that you can get screwed. Thats why I spend most of my non team time in Zhills. DeLand wants teams, Zhills does not. Zhills wants a boogie every weekend, DeLand does not. 3. Bill I understand you have your facts....and you trust the source. However how can a guy with very little knowledge demo it, and know if it is right for him? And how can you say it might be fine if you don't know it personally? Even though I trust PD a lot. I never tell people to be the first on the block with a new toy....The Neptune is a recent example of why I don't run out and get the new toys first. Nova is the best example I have. And when you factor in that this person is new, and has less background with canopies....Well I would direct them to something proven. Just my opinion and I do respect yours, but I just don't agree on this one. Ron "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  4. And this is why I always tell people not to be the first kid on the block with a new toy.... Kevin I am surprised you went out at night with out a back up to a device you have had problems with...I know you had another audible, but why didn't you take a second visual? 5. Both depending on what you are comparing to. The Specter 107 I jumped turned slower than the Stiletto 107 on toggles, but did lose more altitude than the Stiletto. But the Sabre lost more altitude than the Specter in a turn. The Specter had a more forgiving flare than both canopies. So for turns it went Specter, Saber, Stiletto. And for diving it went Stiletto, Specter, Sabre. I would recomend a Specter or Sabre to a guy looking for a first rig...Not the Stiletto. But if the guy was marginal with canopies I would suggest the Specter. Ron "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  6. After a square ZP then a good next step is the same size Elliptical. Too many people want to downsize and change planeform. The less you change the faster and better you will learn that canopy and the safer you will be. Don't go demoing different TYPES of canopies at WL's higher than you have already...Demo the canopy TYPES at the WL you are at now...Then you will really understand the differences between the TYPES....Once you have chosen the TYPE of canopy, then look at going down one size. And Bill, I would not tell someone to wait for the new PD toy....You really don't know how it flies, only what you have been told. so, how would you know it would be a good choice if you have never flown it? The Nova sounded really good when they came out. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  7. 7 cells are more forgiving than many 9 cells. It has to do with the aspect ratio. I have found most 7 cells are more forgiving of mistakes than 9 cells. I would recomend any number of canopies....9 cell and 7 cell. The important thing is for the 9 cell to not be elliptical, and neither to be highly loaded. And to have a stepped progression to the higher WL's. To not change to many things at once (Don't go from a 1.3 7 cell to a 1.6 Elliptical 9 cell.) 8. John....Like I said you have never jumped a reserve so you can't say which handles better...I have. Now do your home work and jump a reserve then you will have an idea. As it is you are talking with no idea. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  9. Never said it was slower...I said it was less responsive. And a 7 cell F-111 with a low aspect ratio is less RESPONSIVE than a high aspect ratio Xbraced Zero P. Plus in this case the reserve was larger than the main by 17 square feet. So John, why don't you go jump a Velocity 96 and then a PD113 and you tell me what you would rather a guy with 40 jumps land. Since I have several hundred on a Velocity 96, and 6 on a PD113...(So, I have personal knowledge about both types of canopies)...I say I would rather put him out on a PD113 any day. 10. You have never been in a situation where your life was in danger from some lowlife then. If a guy breaks into my house, or is trying to harm my family.. He is dead. I will not think twice. Now if he wants to not mess with m family, and not break into my house. If this guy wants to live a good clean life... I will not kill him. Simple huh? Do bad things get shot, do good things don't get shot. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  11. Nope, but I would much rather have a person under a high wingload under a PD reserve than a Velocity. If you have flown the types of canopies that we are talking about then I think you would agree.... And if you have not, then you really don't know what you are talking about right? Where are your facts here? Ron "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  12. not for a first offense...maybe just a black eye or something for the first time. 2nd maybe. 3rd ya kill the family and that includes any family pets. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

    Learning RW

Jay some of these "Gods and royalty" make a living out of skydiving. I see no problem if they are asked to be paid for what they do. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  14. Well first off. he was wrong...Did the S&TA talk to him? Second. A seperate (But equal) landing area is not a bad idea, but a better idea is to not let yahoo, jackass, ego driven, morons continue to act like this. This is however complete Bullshit. Just because one guy acts like this does not make EVERYONE wrong. Canopy colisions happened under Stratostars. Its a moron under any canopy. But to answer your question...Who has the right of way? Everyone but ME! As far as I am concerend you are all out to kill me. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  15. Agreed "begin with the end in mind". However while it may be good to know where you want to go....DOING it with 20 jumps is not a good idea. Yes, but you are weird as hell....Can fly a canopy, but has the RW skill of an AFF student. I don't agree on this...This place may tell you tips and tricks..and most importantly point into the correct direction....You can't learn skydiving over the internet. He needs to talk with his instructors at his DZ or take a canopy course. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  16. I have a Glock 27 .40 "Shorty" Its kinda thick, so I need a jacket or vest for this to be hidden well. And a Lady Smith .357. DA only (Don't laugh, its very small light EASY to conceal. And it is a revolver so it is much easier to use...Not so much an issue for me, but when all hell breaks loose simple is good.) Those are my mains. I have a bunch of long guns.... I also have a Beretta .22 for making noise. I had a Gold Cup S&W .45, but it was very hard to hide, but a NICE pistol. HK's are great, but you want a gun for both self defense and fun....I would get a carry gun and a plinker. 17. Look at how many lll's I had in there. A Pilllow handle does not exist. Pillow handles do. Again making fun of me not using spell check.... Hench the "spelll cheq is 4 loosrs" "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  18. Go jump a reserve the same size as your main and then tell me this. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  19. looks like he is gonna bust a cloud..... FAA!!!! over here!!! "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  20. All that he said, and don't be the first on the block with the new toy. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  21. please read why I started this and the part about not speculating...PM them or start a new post "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  22. I kinda like AOPA pilot. But my point is if USPA drops the insurance...DZ's will drop them. When DZ's drop them...A bunch of folks will drop the USPA. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  23. clicky!>!>!!>!>!>!>!>?!?!?!?!?!?! "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  24. If they drop the insurance, And the DZ's drop the requirment to have it...I'll drop my USPA membership. I'll join the AOPA...They do more for general aviation than the USPA 100 times over. We are general aviation...we are AOPA!!!!!! "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  25. So, knowing this do you still think it would be better to try and land a HP main that you have never been under. Or a low performance canopy that you have never been under? How about a guy with 40 jumps? "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
