So how do you prevent it from being stolen? It just better be locked? "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Yes, However I do check the CYPREs on my gear check before a Tandem jump.... Why on a Tandem and not my personal rig? Well I arm my CYPRES (If that rig has one) on the first gear check of the day. I watch the unit cycle down to Zero. The unit will not turn on if there is a problem or not enough battery to run the whole cycle. I also have no problem jumping without a CYPRES on my personal rig. Now I don't have a Tandem rig of my own so I am using the same rigs others are using. I can't be sure that the unit was turned on at the start of the day (I also might be the first to jump the rig that day). Plus I have someone elses life in my hands. They pay me to be as safe as possible for them, and all tandem makers require an AAD to be in operation....I also use an RSL on Tandem rigs and will not on my personal rig. The ability to change modes is a kinda neat feature...But I personally don't like it being able to be done from the control unit. I had a long discussion with a friend from Denmark...He thinks his countries laws are to easy on the criminal. We talked about Drugs, prostitution, violent crime. He seemed to think that they were not being strict enough. Either way I don't think it matters...Criminals will be criminals either way. I have flown for a solid hour at Bragg. They used to let me in during lunch and I would get in the cone and fly the entire hour. I have flown for a solid 45 min at SV Orlando after I helped put in the first honeycomb air straightner. In one DAY? I have no idea, I know I have had a few marathon sessions in the Bragg tunnel when I was there coaching the SOCOM boys. We had 8 hours a day for three days. You wanna know a secret? After I arm my CYPRES, I don't check it on every jump now that I am out of the military. I doubt very few people do. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

From what I have been told it seems very unlikley that you could change the mode by accident. Now I'm not saying this is the case here, but one reason I didn't like the ability to use one unit with an easy mode change is the chance that someone could change it after you armed it for the day. This could lead to a two out and a very dangerous situation. A packer in DeLand a few years ago found her risers cut on a repack. I know several others that have had gear tampered with. NOT SAYING THIS IS THE CASE HERE...But it is one reason I don't like the ability to change the mode. No, I have gone places without a gun...Oh look I don't have one now. SOME people might be dependant on a gun to feel safe, just as some skydivers have to have an AAD to skydive. Some Gun owners might put themselves into more dangerous situations that they might normally avoid, just like some skydivers go on dives since they feel safe with an AAD. The big difference is that the ground does not go hunting for me. The gorund does not flip out and decide one day to go crazy and kill me. The ground does not decide to rob/kill me, so it does not stalk and target me. When I face a situation where the ground will kill me...I know I am in that situation. I very much doubt that your relative that was murdered, or the kids or grandparents in this case thought they were at risk. So since I know when the ground could kill me, I wear an AAD if I can. But since I DON'T know when some crazy or robber will try to kill me...I would like the ability to carry a gun all the time. In either case I live my life trying to avoid both high speed impact with the ground, and being in a situation where I might need a gun. If you like the idea of an AAD...In a situation where you KNOW the risk ahead of time, how can you not support the right of a guy to defned himself in a situation that he cannot control? Murdered or accident? OK compare having a gun to having an AAD. You have it incase you need it and the shit hits the fan. You try not to let it decide where or what you can do. But you have it just in case you need it...And since you can never tell when you might need it you have it all the times you might. This is what they want for a *flight engineer*. We only hire people that we think will become Captains...The only Professional Engineers we have are pilots that are to old to fly as PIC and step into the back. Yes, this is a Major. Not a slam on the regional pilots, but some of those positions they work the dog shit out of you and pay like crap...Hell Northwest Airlink at one time made you pay for your own training...Not what I would consider a "Professional" job. Although the pilot may *be* professional about his job and do it well...I would not consider the job professional. I know a few that did that without even the two year...But there became stuck there at the regional level forever. Some regional jobs are great, some are crap. They have ways to get around it...They call it "Prior Learning" or they add "or Equivalent". I have been at my company so long they just consider me to have a 4 year degree. And even though I have no proof I have been told that things like a degree will let you move up faster than just stick and rudder time. I don't agree with the practice, but it is there. I was planning on flying for my company...But medical reasons made it so I would have a hard time getting a Class I. I work for an airline. From this weeks job postings: I would recomend a 61 schoolas well...But if you want to fly for the majors...You will also need a degree. I know plenty of pilots with lots of time that had to get degrees to move up. Some "bought" degrees, but this often bites them in the ass later. And you fail to admit that people do more stupid shit since they have guys like you telling them they will be OK as long as they have a CYPRES Also take an English class. I didn't call people who bounced or had a CYPRES fire stupid...I said having a fire or bouncing is quite stupid. Do you disagree with that? It seems you think a CYPRES fire is OK. You wanna talk about selecting stuff to use? How about this , and you may quote it "Being saved by your AAD is stupid. AND bouncing is also quite stupid." The quote I wish you would use (But I know you will not) is this one "Allowing yourself to do more dangerous things since you have an AAD is stupid". So? That does not change the fact they were being stupid. Again...so what? Just because some is now alive to tell us (don't get me wrong thats a great thing) does NOT mean that people are not doing more dangerous things since they hear from guys like you that they should rely on AAD's to save them since they are majic. Do your homework....He was reported to have said that AFTER he was on the ride to altitude, and he had realized he had failed to turn it on....He did NOT turn it off. Sandy didn't want one since it would not fit into her power racer. So far your grade for this assignment is an "F" Doc. How can you not understand that my gripe is with people doing more stupid shit since they have guys like you telling them they will be OK if they have an AAD? No I think Bill is talking about when Terri told him that she didn't want to be on life support and he told her he would not let that happen. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

where did I write AAD's are bad? Because while skydivers are doing more stupid thinsg the AAD is preventing them from dying. Preventing them from dying is a good thing...Them doing stupid stuff cause they have an AAD is not. They are still dangerous. The fact that they stupid things makes them dangerous. The fact the AAD saves them means they can continue to do stupid things. If I am speeding and wreak my car, but I am saved by my airbags...Being saved by my airbags does not mean I was driving safely. Being safe, and being saved are two seperate things. I would think you would be able to see that. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Have I said AAD's were a bad thing? The attitude of people like you that there are a majic box that will allow you to do anything is dangerous. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

So why are you so willing to make her? My parents brought us kids together when this all started. They told us what they wanted. Brain dead...Unplug them. Thats not so hard to guess. Her cerebral cortex is Jelly...She will not ever recover. To claim she will is ignorant, and to force your wishes on her is arrogant. I formed my opinion off of medical doctors that examined her and did a CT scan of her brain. Where did you get yours from, the Bible? Just because I think the Bible was written by a bunch of guys trying to make themsevles powerful does not mean I have no faith. Just because I don't believe in your god does not mean I don't believe in A god. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
