So would you support it, or would you say, "Hey, thats kinda a bad idea?" "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334 -
OK thinking of buying a house...I know NOTHING about this. So questions: 1. Block or Framed? Seems I can buy a new framed house for the same cost as a 50 yo block home. 2. Should I take 10 grand out of my 401K for the DP? I should not need PMI since I have the VA home loan. It seems to be that a big DP does not help that much. I could put as much as say 15-20k down...I'm tempted to just leave it in and finance the total cost of the home since I am getting better return on my investments than the intrest rate of the loan would be...Thoughts? Again...I have no clue and to be honest its kinda driving me crazy....Well crazier. Right now I am saving 47% of my salary, I increased my saving recently to try and get a big DP. 17% to a 401k. 20% to a mutual fund (The plan was for a DP and then a slush fund for maintenance, emergencies, ect.) 10% to Stocks. This from a guy that femured. Just because you think you should do anything you want does not mean that you should. Reference Drunk Driving laws, Legal drinking ages, FAA regs, USUA, USPA pull altitudes, NAUI scuba rules....ect. See MOST rules are made up by people who know more than the beginer. They are in place to allow the novice to not get killed why they learn more. The Novices always think they are "special" and the rules should not apply to them...Many times they ignore them and a few times they die. Rules in skydiving were written in blood. No. I don't know about SMR...But just because you were allowed does not mean it was smart. And I would guess you could not go to the SMR nationals and race open. Sure, thats why I am here. I fail to see how regulation about WHEN you can do something is bad...Particlarly when we have said time and time again if you are as good as you think you are, then you would have no problems jumping what you want...All we want is your the folks that think they are great to prove it. I don't see that as much to ask. The FAA saw cocky people doing things before they were ready and dying in the process. I see a direct comparison. Really? I think the USUA would disagree. http://www.usua.org/Instructors/safetyandtraining.htm You could hop into an ultra light with out training... While LEGAL that does not equal smart. AND the FAA does not like that idea. Also I HAVE a pilots license and not one Ultra Light place I have EVER been to would let me rent one without a checkout. Many would die. NAUI I was told max depths were: Open 60 feet. Advanced 120 Master 150 My comments about Nitrox, cavern, cave, ect are still accurate anyway. OK use flying... I have to do 20 hours of Duel before I am allowed to fly a helicopter solo. I had to get a checkout to fly a tailwheel plane. I had to get an endorsement to fly a HP plane (one with more than 200HP). I had to get an edorsement to fly a complex airplane. (A plane with flaps, constant speed prop, retracts) Wanna try SCUBA diving? I had to get advanced to go deeper than 60 feet. Needed Master to go deeper than 15 feet. Needed Nitrox to use mixed gasses. I had to take Cavern to go into an overhead environment. I had to take Cave to ge further than 100 feet into a cave. I could go on. Call both tunnels and ask what is available the days you could be there. The tunnel that has more availability is the one where the sales person tells you that they have more time open. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

Well the thing is this. The min wage goes up 1.00. The cost of doing business goes up, so prices for goods and services also go up. (Nice thinking that the fat cats will just take a pay reduction...But most companies are working at a basic profit margin Owners want to make money...And Public companies owe it to stock holders to keep turning a profit)...So the prices WILL go up. Maybe not a 1:1 ratio, maybe .5:1 so a good that did cost 1.00 now costs 1.50... OK the min wage folks do get a little better deal. But lets not forget that most min wage folks are not supporting families. The real problem is that min wage goes up a buck to lets say 6.25/hr. The guy that was making 6.50 is NOT going to get a raise, so in essence he just took a pay cut since inflation will raise the cost of goods and services. It sounds good to say you are making more money, but inflation will eat a portion of it and those that don't get that raise get screwed. Just like in "The Hitch Hickers Guide to the Galaxy" if money did grow on trees, everyone would be rich and no one could afford anything. I was kidding.... But see the Dems got what they wanted here. The Min wage did not pass, but they get to blame the Republicans for it....Even though the Dems could have passed a min wage increase with almost 90 % of the vote. But they really cared more about making the Republicans look bad than they did about raising the min. wage. The Republicans say, "Lets rasie the min wage "X"." The Dems say lets raise it "X + 8". and when the repubs vote it down we will look lik ehero's and they will look like they are out to keep the little guy down." If they had REALLY cared about the little guy they would have voted the Republican raise into effect. The worst part is the rasies are AUTOMATIC they have to vote against hem to stop them....I voted for the Representative in my area that voted to STOP her own raise...I also called and told her that was one reason I voted for her. And they will have more time to react due to the lower speed. And if they hit they will hit slower, and the kinetic energy will be less and do less damage. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334 -
There were TWO bills in congress. One from the repubs, one from the dems. BOTH were shot down.. The Republican bill wanted to rasie it $1.10 in two doses of 55 cents. The Dem bill wanted to rasie it $2.10 This is the good part: If the Dems had wanted to raise the Min wage, they could have done it easily to $6.25 with NO problem. They voted against it not because it was not enough but to try and make the Republicans look bad....And from your post it seems they did. But if they wanted to rasie the min....they could have, they chose to not did it so the Rebulicans look bad. Kennedy had this to say about Santorum: However he failed to check his facts. Santorum sees a rate hike as much as 2.10 to be bad for business and it will be. So your title should be "Wage increase killed in Congress", or Wage increase killed by Republicans AND Democrats". Republicans ay this: And there are several facts to back that up...Small businesses will lay off workers and try to do more with less. Dems countered with emotion: Having high values does no good if you can't find a job. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334

then why are there speed limits and cops to try and make you follow them? Notice that if while driving you do stupid things they will take away your right to drive? "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334 -
Good question. What happens is that after a while you get confident in gearing up, and making a safe skydive...Well when that happens the anal retentiveness wears off. You stop getting pin checks, start having lazy pulls. Hum it down a little (whats the harm in pulling 100 feet low? The main has always opened right? Then its 200, 300 ect). People *think* its cool, but I think thats far from the truth. The same thing happens with High Performance canopies, jumping wingsuits before you should...ect. Just like when you started driving. Your hands were at 10 and 2. You kept your eyes on the road...Now you have one hand on the wheel while you fish for a CD in the back seat while speeding and holding a drink between your legs. As you get comfertable you get complacent. In skydiving it can be deadly...But that does not stop it from happening. Problem is in a field that pays that well people flock to that field. As more people are in that field employers can be pick with who they hire. If I have a job and I can hire a guy at 90k or a guy at 40k that will do the same job...who do you think is gonna get a job? The low prices you are bitching about are due to there being to many IT folks now...I still have friends that are making good money in the field..But some have moved on to other things.
