  1. Ummmm, yeah it was. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  2. I think that you have two options: 1. As long as the person is licensed to carry in that State, Yes. 2. If not, then the building needs to have screening to prevent ANYONE (except LEO) from entering the building with a weapon. But you are throwing a strawman... this thread is about allowing CHECKED firearms on AMTRAK. Do you think checked firearms should be allowed on trains? "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  3. So just for fun, I'll give you my (OK Wikipedia's) definition of PUBLIC transportation. "Public transport (also public transportation, public transit, or mass transit) comprises passenger transportation services which are available for use by the general public, as opposed to modes for private use such as automobiles or vehicles for hire... Public transport can consist of subways, trolleys and light rail, commuter trains, buses, van pool services, paratransit services for senior citizens and people with disabilities, ferries, water taxis, or monorails." So yeah.... It was easy. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  4. And if we ban spoons, less people will be fat and die of obesity then. Or you could accept the simple fact that both guns and spoons are just tools. And that people will kill or eat with something else. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  5. Might want to check who started this thread again. You are being silly thinking guns are the cause of the problem. You said it yourself that 3 people were killed with forks. According to your logic, you are skinny since you don't have a fork or spoon. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  6. You started it. Yes: 1. Guns don't kill anymore than Spoons make people fat. 2. If you REALLY wanted to save lives, you would work against obesity. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  7. Your argument is WEAK. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  8. They killed more than three. Guns kill about 30k in the US per year. About 57% are suicides. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  9. Nonsense. They guy did it of his own free will... you keep forgetting that. You can continue to feel that way, but it does not make it right. This is just another example of you taking the antagonistic side on ANY issue that deals with the military or former military. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  10. Only if he did it against his will... you don't know this, but you claimed the VFW were vigilantes. Without the data you jump all over the rest of us, but you did it too. You are free to think that way, but it does not make it true. It could easily be the case of a drunk guy doing something stupid and feeling bad about it. Or it could be that he knew he would face more pain by going to court over the issue. Either way, you don't have all the facts and jumped to a conclusion and bitched at us for doing the same. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  11. We also have NO reason to think your proposed solution will do anything either. I would venture that nothing has changed is because we have not held them accountable. Vote the lifers out, see what happens. To keep voting them in and expecting them to do something different is the definition of insanity. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  12. I read every word of it before I made a single post to you. You switched to that tact after you found your first attempt was ill conceived. And for the record YOU jumped the gun and made a judgement about the vigilantes without the whole story either. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  13. He didn't "apprehend" him. He went to him and talked to him. The guy AGREED to be taped to the flag pole. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  14. That's the best you can do? You said they were not public, then I showed they were owned by the Govt. You said so are other things like military bases and prisons... So, I showed how by DESIGN Amtrak was for the public use. Now the best you can do is claim its not public cause people have to pay? Your argument is WEAK. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  15. This shows you don't know anything about American Football. The Patriots are a football team out of New England. They were in the Superbowl in 2008. He is saying you will not be happy until you hurt the Pats enough to make them as bad a team as the Lions. And you have made that exact type of statement. "The rich are running away, the class disparity is growing, time to bring it back a tad." That would be like taking points away from Airspeed at the Nats to give to the last placed team. Aispeed earned those points... Why punish them for hard work? "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  16. For me it is about 1,000 bucks a month. Nah, I like them as much as I do my skydiving or SCUBA diving gear. They are just tools to do things. What we should really do is ban violence... I mean if we have a ban it will have to go away right? "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  17. You didn't actually watch the video did you? The guy VOLUNTEERED to be taped to the flag pole. The VFW Commander is protecting the guys identity to prevent real harm to him or his family. I would actually agree with you 100% if they did it without his permission... but in this case you went off half cocked without the facts. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  18. You would be wrong again. How about how the CBO thinks it will increase the Federal Deficit? http://www.docstoc.com/docs/8662052/CBO-Report-on-Cost-of-Health-Care-Bill How do you read a 239B increase in the Deficit? Or maybe you could look at this exchange between Sen Conrad (D, ND) and Douglas Elmendorf, director of the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office: So the CBO seems to think it will add to the deficit... Who are you to argue? Add into it how you want to raise taxes to pay for it... well if it costs more, and you want to raise others taxes to pay for it.... How *exactly* is that not making others pay for it? "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  19. And you giving permission makes it a totally different story. The police can search your house if you give them permission as well. Would you support a company owning slaves? "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  20. Then you should save for a rainy day when times are good to cover the bad times. Or, find a career that is more stable. Yes, because if you take away peoples money they can't spend it. That has nothing to do with sales tax, it has to do with simple supply and demand. No I didn't , I stated I want to raise taxes, esp on the rich Yeah, you did. THE CLASSES ARE SPEADING [SIC] EVEN MORE, SO APPARENTLY THE TAX RATES ARE TOO LENIENT. So they are still spending, so we should tax them till they don't. Since 70% of GDP is consumer spending, you wanting to tax the people that are spending till they can't is akin to killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. It shows that you really do not understand economics. Actually you are using it as a way to dismiss and avoid the substantive points. So, yes, it is ad hominem by the very definition. This shows you have no idea about a budget. And there are PLENTY of correlations. You want to TAX others so you can have free healthcare. If I pay tax, and you get it for free.... It *IS* exactly me paying for your HC. It is called understanding how the economy works and personal responsibility. Some things you do not seem to understand. No that's what you have been preaching about now for days. Oh you know me? But, you are also wrong. See, I take responsibility for my own actions. I have health insurance and disability insurance. I don't expect others to support me unlike you. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  21. Except that you are using a strawman argument to avoid discussing the topic at hand, which *IS* Amtrak. You constantly avoid discussing the topic and try to throw red herrings into the discussion to avoid your arguments looking as weak as they are. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  22. That fact that it is open to the public does. The fact it was created to serve the public by them using it to move does as well. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  23. You have been squirming for a while now on the whole Private vs. Public issue. Amtrak is not private... Quit trying to use that strawman. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  24. So you would let your company search your house? "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
