    This is putting a bandaid on an amputation. the solution to preventing buffer overrun exploits is to write decent code. But it's cheaper not to bother auditing the code base, so many software companies don't bother. Oh, and from Microsoft's own MSDN: "DEP is not intended to be a comprehensive defense against all exploits." Instead of postponing your purchases of Intel gear, try lobbying Microsoft to develop a decent code-auditing policy.     Yes! Finally someone else who understands what the reserve is really for. I don't use ebay often, but I always just bid what I'm willing to pay and if I get beaten, so what, it was too expensive. Reserve or not doesn't bother me. People who ask about the reserve just don't understand how auto-bidding works. When I sold stuff on ebay, I found I almost always got a better response if I started the bidding really low and set a reserve instead of just starting at a higher minimum bid. Might not matter if the item is $10 but the stuff I was selling was in the $1,000s and it made a HUGE difference there.     I looked up their tax returns online. Gotta love the Internet. As you'd expect, they're both very simple and by-the-book. I'm not an accountant, but their taxes are pretty straightforward. The Tax History Project GWB, 2003: Adj. Gross Income: $822,126 Deductions: $95,043 Taxes Paid: $227,490 (as percentage of gross): 27.7% John Kerry, 2003: Adj. Gross Income:$ 395,338 Deductions: $48,674 Taxes Paid: $90,575 (as percentage of gross): 22.9% Honestly, this doesn't look like a very big disparity to me. Another thing to keep in mind is that our lower taxes are coming at the price of a record deficit, because government spending has gone UP, not down, under Bush the younger.
