Twin Otter separataion anxiety
towerrat replied to flyinchicken's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
if it makes you feel any better we've only had one otter all summer and it will probably be a whole month before the other three come back.--------------------------------- Play stupid games, win stupid prizes! -
High wingload/Low Jumps at your DZ (over 1.7)
towerrat replied to base698's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I jump at a large DZ and can't think of anyone with less than 500 jumps at that wing loading. We have good instructors who continue to watch and guide our jumpers well past student status. ------------------------------------------------------ Play stupid games, win stupid prizes! -
Ever jumped in a foreign country ??
towerrat replied to lazyfrog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
[QuotePost: I'm new in the sport... however I think it doesn't matter if you dive or not. The majority of our packers at my home DZ do not jump. I would rather have someone who knows their stuff in charge of my life. what the hell are you talking about? --------------------------------------------- Play stupid games, win stupid prizes! -
Going to a new DZ on Student Status..
towerrat replied to Thanatos340's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If your DZ closed three weeks ago and you won't know anything for another week, that will make at least a month since your last jump, but I'm guessing more like five weeks. I have 400 jumps and if I miss a week of jumping I feel uncurrent. I would find the next best DZ and get my ass in the air and stay there. If it costs a little more so be it. You can't sit around and go uncurrent again. ----------------------------------------------- Play stupid games, win stupid prizes! -

which boogie has the best parties?
towerrat replied to Newbie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Z- Hills Dude! I have seen people practicing sit flying in the fire, nights at the bar where only the very few most modest had any clothes on, we have driven a $50'000 Land Rover through the swoop pond ( yes, it's deep and do not try it now, it's even deeper and steve mott will kill you ). can you say drunken dirtbike wheelies? Dude, we have a fuckin' blast during the season. There are bands during the boogies, and when there isn't some of the locals jam in the bunker ( yes it bad but that's OK because it's really loud ) What a fucking riot! And we have some of the best skydiving in the world, which is what it's really all about, right ? ------------------------------------------------------------ Play stupid games, win stupid prizes! -
It happens if I don't log for a few weeks. I'll keep a running total in my head but I only remember the best jumps. -------------------- Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!

I don't know about you guys, but I don't bend at the chest. If a rig is properly sized and cut, you shouldn't need them. ------------------------------------------------------- Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!

Need input/info on Vector II, Raider 220 Main and Maverick 200 Reserve
towerrat replied to rylord's topic in Gear and Rigging
I think it would have been more prudent to ask these questions before you bought the gear. Have your rigger check it out. I think you may have made a pretty good choice for starter gear, even if it is a bit out dated. The canopy sizes seem reasonable and Relative Workshop has made a very good rig for years. --------------------------------------------- Play stupid games, win stupid prizes! -
I hit a parked car at better than 85mph when I was 21. ------------------------------------------- Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!

First of all,I do not want to discourage you in any way.I know of a few packers who have never made a skydive, or for that matter, want to. I personally do not allow non jumpers to touch my rig, particularly my reserve.I know of more than several jumpers who feel this way. On the other hand, there is no reason you couldn't be a very competent rigger. --------------------------------------------------------- Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!

I was on a dive a few weeks ago where one of the jumpers I was with narrowly missed a large bird. He saw it (he thinks it was an eagle) about the same time it saw him. He pitched and it left, both of them keeping their lives until another day. ------------------------------------------ Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!

QuoteI think it all depends on your skill with the gear you're jumping, and what your comfortable with. But the fact still stands that if you are too low to turn, don't. ***I completely agree. I'm comfortable landing my canopy in a direction, but of course I always try to land with the traffic pattern (left hand pattern into the wind).I have found that in learning higher performance landings I sometimes find myself too low to start or finish a turn.I will certainly go down or crosswind in order to save my ass. Low turns kill. ------------------------------------------------------ Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!

it's a great place to practice tracking.......... --------------------------------------------- Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!

I recently received the new pair of Birdman Pantz I ordered at the WFFC.I can't say enough good things about them. They are extremely stylish, well built and above all else, they really work well.I was amazed at how powerful my legs felt while tracking. I also found them easy to sit fly in, and I'm sure learning head down will be easier. As an RW flier just learning to freefly, I was concerned with my ability to insure proper seperation on break-off without my RW booties. This is not a problem anymore. Try them, they rock!

why do you need someone to go with you? If you enjoyed it, go for it. Best of luck! --------------------------- Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!

Ahhh! Want to buy, but I know so little...
towerrat replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in Gear and Rigging
I would suggest buying a container that is manufactured closer to where you are located. It makes for ease of service if you need parts, repairs, etc.Wings and Javelin are both manufactured in Z-Hills and if I'm not mistaken Jumpshack is in Deland. My personal vote is for the Wings. --------------------------------------------- Play stupid games, win stupid prizes! -
I have 360 jumps and do not own a cypress. I have been through two rigs ( any body need a nice rig? ) and am placing the order for the next one now. When I get myself in order as to what I'll be jumping for the next 1000 jumps or so I'll look into finding a cheap used one. I've gone through equipment relatively quickly and can't really say I planned on keeping a rig long enough to worry about finding a cypress and having it installed. I know it sounds stupid but that's just the way I've looked at it. It's just not of the utmost importance to me, I've been more interested in getting where I needed to be as far as canopies and container. ------------------------------------------------------ Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!

i am a cell cite installer and know that most sites are set up with between a 0 and 4 degree downtilt (depending on height and location). They can and will work in a good area, but for the most part they point at the dirt. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!

I think I've hit my plateau
towerrat replied to JustPlainChic's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You also have to realize that you are only learning in one minute increments. Can you really think of any other sports where the actual practice time is so short? I think you are being a little hard on yourself. Relax and enjoy yourself! -------------------------------- Play stupid games, win stupid prizes! -
I'm pretty sure Jacksonville extreme sports is approx. 10 minutes from downtown Jax. ----------------------------------------- Play stupid games, win stupid prizes!
