If you want another option that still has BluRay abilities... PS3. You can get Streaming Netflix for the PS3 and it will work with any WiFi Signal so the Apple Airport will work. You can hard wire it in to the built in port on the PS3 if you want or use the built in Wifi. Best option... PS3 off Craigslist. You can get one that is in great shape for around $200-225 or so for an older 40 gig model with games and it has the BluRay ability, the Streaming Netflix, gaming and it will even be able to do BluRay 3d once they release some firmware updates I guess (I know that has no abilities for you Lori but for others it might). The PS3 will also let you do streaming music form your computer to your entertainment center and any stereo you have set up there. PS3 has Component, HDMI and composite outputs so literally just about any format your TV supports it can output in it. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

An Important Notice to USPA Members
PhreeZone replied to 3331's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Read the BOD notes for the last few meetings and talk to your BOD members. They have been working with multiple third parties to determine a solution and all of these items are addressed in the solutions. There has not been any mention of being first party ran for this that I have seen in a BOD meeting minute. Until a vendor is selected its impossible to say the cost and other technical factors since each company does things differently. Amending the bylaws to lock it into a specific method is not a great idea since then to alter that if something better comes along takes a massive effort again. This is not a unique issue for organizations and there are factors beyond cost like participation percentages that need looked at also. If we can go from the roughly 10% of member voting today to say 25-40% with electronic voting is a higher cost to run the election worth it? As I understand it the online option would allow HQ to print off the ballots from the online vote and then use them so people don't have to fill them out and mail them in. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com -
Contact Start Skydiving since you are in the area, they have a few copies of that and have an entire Special Needs harness they are using now. They did 4-5 Paraplegic tandems last year and can help with a lot of the pointers. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

What would you think if you just got a 2% salary raise?
PhreeZone replied to Cornholio's topic in The Bonfire
I haven't seen a raise in a few years at work, I would be thrilled if I got even 1% offered to me. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com -
Thanks Kevin. I'm looking at blowing off work for 4-5 days to come down and make the windows and allow enough buffer room for weather and hold times. I wanted to do May's since its a mid day for photos but I can't attend due to a wedding. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

Is September confirmed as a go? a few of us are looking at coming down for either July or September to watch the launch but I was thinking that September was flaky for financing and was subject to canceling. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

Its limestone as I understand it. High levels of Calcium carbonate in the water due to the quarrying process and the limestone dissolving in the water. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

You need to find a better DZ. Ours its about 1.5:1 Besides, I met my wife jumping and most the girls I dated before her were jumpers. DZ's are not as bad as some people make them out, if you aren't able to eventually find a date on a DZ then its probably you that is the issue. Another option that you can look at is having a local master rigger bar tack the Magnetic loop to the top of the yoke on the Wings. I have seen that done by a few people and it works great. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

That's really surprising since when I was looking not even 16 months ago word on the AV forums was support for most formats was not going to happen due to costs and the fact that most files on USB were pirated movies and video and the industry did not want to be seen as encouraging that behavior by doing direct support of it. I am really impressed by the full list that Samsung seems to be supporting: http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/learningresources/media2.0/usb_faq.html Its still a partial list and a lot of the videos I'm made on my personal system would not work since they are WMV V10 and they don't have support for it or even Quicktime movies but its a great start and I'll keep it in mind for my family. Looking at the video you can see the slider moves all the way down the lines as the canopy is being sucked back into the burble. Truly a scary video since the canopy could have opened extremely hard at that point and could have caused internal injuries. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

As BillVon has noted quite a few times, after an injury or fatality its hard to find a friend of the person that actually has something bad to say about the person and they only want to see the person in a positive light and want to deflect any negative comments about their friend no matter what happened. I've taken flack in person and on here for calling people out as being stupid or at fault when they got hurt and I've also been the person that hated every poster on these forums that was posting comments and passing judgment about my friend that just died the day or two previously. Eventually I've come to realize that the dead don't have feelings anymore and their friends are only going to protect their memories of the person and any postings on here are not going to erase those memories but will only cause people to prevent posting about injuries since they don't want to defend their friends. Its a cycle that will only be broken by logging the injuries/fatalities and never having a bit of discussion about them. To me that's as bad as not posting injuries since in the vast majority of the times the initial report even behind fatalities is grossly incorrect and with out the discussion the details never would come out. If the community at large wants the databases on here to move towards that then it can happen but I won't be doing it. To give you an example of DZ's not wanting to publish or even acknowledge accidents I've been contacted by multiple DZ's and staff at DZ's and asked to delete threads, remove lots of posts in threads that they feel are attacks on the DZ or in a few cases change the thread title so that their DZ name is not directly associated with it so that it is not indexed by Google as a match for their DZ when students look online. I have trouble just getting accurate info for fatalities, injuries are something that I have no intent on tracking in a database. I get PM's all week long from someone asking about an injury they heard about and are looking for more info on but since the local jumpers have not posted any information to the forums its hard to get the ball rolling to talk about the injuries. Just recently there was a fatality and it took almost two days to confirm that there really was an incident at the DZ since no one wanted to talk about it in the forums or directly when asked. I know about 2-3 dozen injuries this year already that are not in the forums since people refuse to start the first post and then when I offer to they want it dropped and not talked about anymore. Currently this year I know of at least 3 femur breaks and only 1 made the forums and we are not even into May yet. Unless the press shows up to cover the injuries most people would rather sweep injuries under the rug since it makes their DZ look bad if its reporting all the injuries and no one else is. No TV will let you play back video over USB directly. There are too many codec issues to deal with. MP3 and JPG are industry standard that go back for years and the licensing for them is fairly cheap. a .mpg file may be one of dozens of formats and each needs a different decoder to play back correctly. Best solution is something like a PS3 or XBox 360 that is able to do the decoding on the fly and is updated with all new codecs all the time. The ultimate skydiving instrument now available...
PhreeZone replied to rhys's topic in Gear and Rigging
The thing is at this point its a lot of hype with huge claims and no product. Bits and pieces of the technology are already out there but putting it in a single package at an affordable price and having it actually work as expected is a lot of money and time. There are a ton of civilian and military groups that would love to have technology like this but even now no one has delivered a product that actually works that is worth buying. Also note they are not putting out anything specific on the product like its size, weight, what the external pack is going to look like or ho its connected to the goggles, etc. There are no details just hype on the product at this point. The Promo video claims things like trail maps, text message reading, song ID, etc... but there is not one mention about how all of that will work. Bluetooth? Wired? USB? Or are they just tossing out ideas and hoping at some point that they can add that feature into goggles version 7.5 in something like 5+ years when the goggles will look nothing like the animation they are showing today? The better option is the PocketWizards. I've got the Cactus Triggers for my flashes and they fail about 5-8% of the flash fires on them. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com -
Time Slice "Bullet Time" Special Effect
PhreeZone replied to 4dbill's topic in Photography and Video
I've been wanting to do this for ground swooping for a long time but I can't get enough people to loan me their video cameras for an afternoon to make it worth doing. From a ground perspective its really not that complex of a shot. Its just about having the materials and the equipment to make the shot happen. The plugins are out there for every editing suite to do clean morphing for shot to shot. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com -
Class B style units are not popular at all here in the states since Class C's are nearly the same price and offer a lot more option and room. If someone has one they will have an extremely limited in their quantity and you might just be seeing the lack of units. Small Class C units are just as nice and should be about the same cost. Only thing that really sleeps just two people are little tow behind campers like pop-ups or little teardrop style campers which require an SUV or truck to pull them. Anything self propelled will tend to sleep more then that due to the way RV's are marketed here in the States. Camper Vans are not popular at all and I rarely see anyone renting one. Class C motorhomes are the smallest of the self propelled and they tend to sleep 5-7 at least. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

Its not an SD card slot, its an Memory Stick Pro slot. The MS cards on the older HC cameras bordered on useless, all you could do with them was turn the camera into a still camera for a single shot here or there, it would not record full quality (even the lower SD quality) video to the memory card. I don't see any advantages to using the HC-32 over the HC-21 Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

Correct, the current interpretation means that if a rigger in training wants to repack their rig under supervision they are free to do that, but then they need to get another rated rigger to repack it if they want to jump it. I personally think this sucks and is just putting more wear on components. Here is one for you to think about, is there anything that would not let you could logging of a main as a packjob towards the 20 supervised? I know the Forest Service (smoke jumpers) and the Military keep full records on the mains and the reserves and rumor was the Forest Service saw them as the same thing for paperwork purposes.
