Worried about Bonehead's CX150 Top Mount Box
PhreeZone replied to AdamSonOfJohn's topic in Photography and Video
Adam, have you talked to the S&TA's at your DZ's before placing the order for the gear yet? You are only at about 1/4-1/3 of the experience recommended for camera gear and by the time you get to the 200 jumps there will be all new cameras out that are lighter and better with different boxes. I would be surprized if the S&TA's will let you jump the camera for a while. The Box fits from what I have seen but most people are skipping the boxes and just mounting them out on their helmets with out boxes anymore. I've been on the other side looking at all three of those flyers in freefall this year so I know the typical diveflow with all of them. Mel is amazing well at keeping her feet out of frame and typically you only see it in video when the TI grabs it and puts it in the students hand. At that point shes steep enough that its rare to see it but it lets her get some shots that are steep enough that the TI is almost hidden behind the student and you get the drogue in frame too.REALLY nice photos at that angle. The last photo on the other hand I'll bet was less then 1-2 seconds from drogue release. I MUCH prefer having the video guy sink out on me at the end then the few that like to be in my face through the entire pull sequence. Its a bit unnerving to have someone that's only 5-6 feet out at drogue pull and have a hesitation and the trapdoor kicks in and you can see now the video person is getting 20 feet high on you as you are flying basically drogueless for 1-2 seconds or so until opening kicks in. That's just asking for them to get sucked into you if your student is driving with their legs during that time. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

Have your instructors agreed that a 210 is the right size canopy for you? I would have steered you more towards a 230 for your first canopy at the body size you are. 7 cells and 9 cells can be designed to be steep or flat for their glide slopes, it is all what each canopy design is focused around. A DZ rigger found with the assistance of a master rigger that the Spectres LST's were 2 3/4 inches shorter then factory spec so its opening in a near stall all the time. The canopy is also getting close to a need for a reline anyways so now the decision has to be made if he just wants the LST' and steering lines replaced for a few dollars now to get through the rest of the season and send it for a full reline over the winter or if a full reline needs done now. My recommendation was replace the LST's and put another 100 jumps on it this year Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

As others have said.. sell the parts that have a lifespan or are decreasing in value like the AAD, the cameras and the parts associated with them like Dboxes, etc. Its getting harder to find people that want a PC105 so sell it while it has some value. The HC5 is still used but lots of places have gone the route of the memory card cameras so Tape based is on its way out. sell those for some cash and put it back to buy the newest thing out when you get back.

Tax and Damage on my new rig : (
PhreeZone replied to aeroflyer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If you are asking someone to declare an item for less then its value then you are really asking them to help you commit tax fraud. I don't believe many firms are willing to do that... Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com -

$15000 nzd equals about $10000 USD right now. And "ignoring the food and room costs" is not possible to do. Rent and food costs are additional fees but they should still figured into the total costs just like at college. When you attend college the classes might only cost you $8000 a year but its another $6000 in room and board that you need to take out loans to cover since you are unable to work and cover all of that cost while still attending school. Sure at the end you might only owe the school $32000 directly but you are in debt for $48000 in the end and that is the figure that you need to repay. If the students are not afforded the ability to work enough through school to pay for all their living expenses then you absolutely have to count those living expenses into the cost of the course. Tax and Damage on my new rig : (
PhreeZone replied to aeroflyer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
How would you expect Sunrise to ship a rig to you? I have opened a few boxes with new containers and almost everyone of them is in a box but when you look they put the rig components into bags for transport. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com -

Did you even read the list of staffers that I posted for Laura Bush? Max had to correct himself since he also assumed that Mrs. Bush only had one until it was pointed out that she had around 20 and spent the same money that your article talked about. Yes, its too much money and it would be great if they would save 20% of that money every year. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

What is the canopies that a Reflex 435 can hold? I know the old chart is here: http://web.archive.org/web/20050307150002/http://www.tridenthc.com/ReflexSizes.htm I'm guessing the reserve is around a Raven 1/PD 160 and the main is around a 150ish but not really sure if its also a 160/170 since its not on the chart. Samurai for a 100 jump person
PhreeZone replied to 4chewnate's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Samurai is not Crossbraced, its Airlocked. Two different concepts completely. I've only got 800 jumps on my Sam and then 350+ on the Jedei before it so I'm still a newbie on the canopy design but its not going to be anything I would ever recommend to a low time canopy pilot. Nice looking Teardrop design. I looked at one of those for a while but the wife was convinced it was too small inside so we got a pop up instead. Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com

Lightroom and Photoshop are targeting two different uses. Lightroom is a awesome cataloging, slight retouching, organizing, and third party tie in tool. I have it able to directly export photos to HDR rendering programs, direct to Facebook uploads, simple resizing and other common photo tasks. Lightroom is great to remove red eyes, crop a photo or todo minor touch ups like that. Photoshop on the other hand is more for the heavy lifting of pixel modifications. Need to remove someone from a photo? Photoshop is the easy solution. Need to organize and search through 20000 photos for a year and be able to tell who is in each photo? Lightroom is the easy choice there. Its all about Work flow...Lightroom can really make dealing with a large collection of photos really easy.
