premier spitting out HUGE file sizes
blazetailman replied to Jumpmunki's topic in Photography and Video
The American Boogie DVD I did was exported to a avi with DV compression was 6.5gigs, at 30mins long. The compressed mpeg file for dvd was 1.8 gigs. I think your files is the correct compression if it is a DV compressed avi. You just need to compress it a mpg for dvd or vcd file. YOu should be able to export it as a vcd from primeire. Its in the file menu somewhere. I'm burning more dvds right now and can't open primeire. Post again later if you are having problems. Man I misspelled primeire badly. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com -
Anyone else drooling on the Nikon D2H?
blazetailman replied to Viking's topic in Photography and Video
Well as camera weight goes, it helps for everyday shooting. For special events or shots, I don't mind extra weight. Nikon makes great cameras, especially film. When it comes to getting the shot it for film. It doesn't matter what you are shooting, Canon, Nikon, Minolta. Hassleblad, Mamiaya. Good glass is good glass. Camera bodies are just little lite boxes and film holders. Its the shooter behind the lens that makes the difference. But digital cameras are loaded with new technology that is redefining the image. Size, quality and speed are the defining point in the digital technology race. The biggest changes photogs used to look for were in film stock. finer resolution for film speed, better sharper lenes and smarter faster autofocus. I just dropped some film off to my lab and the printer said that type R paper used for printing slides is getting fazed out by the major manufators. The writing is on the wall. Digital is here to stay for pros if they are discontinuing pro film services. A while ago with the advent of the rebel camera, with plastic lens mount on the camera body and lense people were worried that it would wear out. They found it holds up quite well and the plastic bodies hold up better to dents and can be molded to produce stronger structures. They might feel cheap but are easier to maintain and replace parts. I prefer a heavier camera when shooting on the ground, but my neck likes the lightest possible for freefall. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com -
Anyone else drooling on the Nikon D2H?
blazetailman replied to Viking's topic in Photography and Video
Nice camera but, I still feel Nikon is playing catchup to canon with the 1 d that has been on the market for quite some time. Yes the buffer is larger in the Nikon d2h, but canon has improved on this indirectly also. When the 1Ds came out it pushes a 11mega pixel image at 3fps for 10 frames. On the surface, it might not seem like a lot but its pushing a much larger file thru the buffer. I would like to see some test images of the Nikon's new sensor. I'll go see if I can find some. My guess Canon will introduce a new model soon inbetween the 1ds abd 10d that is 6mega pixels with a 5+fps for 15-20 frame buffer in the same size camera body of the 10d. Hopefully nor more than $2,000. This would be a great all around camera. Suiting the needs of skydiving and pro shooters looking for a bump in image quality above the 4mega pixel range. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com -

Wether someone is a moderator here or somewhere else has no bearing in the world of skydiving. You can be a moderator here but not have the skills to make any or all decsions skydiving. These are 2 compelety seperate situations. It sounds like a case of a skydiver making some error on jump run. Whether he is a moderator has little to do with the situation. I don't know a drop zone that would allow even their loccal jumpers "to do anything they want on the jump plane" let alone screen jockeys. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

DO thre 50/50 for a while till you wind something that suits you best. For 200 or so jist this will let you know what interest, challenges you and give you skills to jump with friends safely on both sides of the drop zone. Cheers www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

The high res screen caught my eye at the store. I then went and reviewed the specs to others on zdnet.com and it came in 2nd on specs compared to the alien ware laptop a grand more. So for budget it worked, and to know it ranked well with the alienware laptop which is a high end machine, it looked like a good deal for laptop. Won't by gateway, sony, or hp laptops. WOuld by dell, but this configured out the same as one. There is no problem at being thrifty, I have an external 120 gig drive for storage no and things are running smooth for mobile video editiing. If you need more of a buisness computer and less power workstation, the fujutsu c series might be a better buy. this is th laptop http://webshop.fujitsupc.com/fpc/Ecommerce/buildseriesbean.do?series=AN www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

Front Float out of a King Air-need help!!!
blazetailman replied to kneedragon's topic in Safety and Training
Cool beans Grant, maybe it should be moved to RW forum. With out writing the blow by blow for point's exit, it sounds like you have your shoulders set parrallel to the door frame. Is this correct? Front float, should have their body set 45degrees to the dor frame and the left shoulder and chest set to the relitive wind and prop blast. On exit for the general exits they basicall hop off as the are pulled with the exit off the plane. The left knee and hips are also placed in the wind similar to the the shoulders. Be slightly chest heavy and think about driving into the relative wind and bit to keep from being floped back into the wind. I know prop blast can be pretty powerful facing forward with the chest in the wind but when you get a good stance, its less work on the exit for them. Just step off and present to the wind. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com -
Front Float out of a King Air-need help!!!
blazetailman replied to kneedragon's topic in Safety and Training
Well when it comes to xits there are many ways. And most of them are all hogwash. yes leaving as a unit is quite important. Thats why is call a chunk or relative work. But there are advantages of having the tail be off the plane, down and out, strecthing the formation off the formation so it can fly. Instead of having front float trying to leave with the group and smashing into the center postion. I think this technique is also advantagous to normal RW exits, too. I've applied it to all levels of RW organizing I do and had great result with it. Why do we have an exit that the front leaves first. It works requires a lot of practice and can be done. But someone decided to look at the mechanics and found a easier method to make the same thing happen. Sometimes we keep teaching thins the same old way beacuse that's how its done. Or that's how we do it. That's how I was taught. Instead of Doing it the smoothest way. My 2 bits... on exit tail leaves out and down a half beat early streatching the formation out while front stays on the plane presenting to the propblast. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com -
Front Float out of a King Air-need help!!!
blazetailman replied to kneedragon's topic in Safety and Training
Trying any or all exits out of a king air is difficult at best. Welcome to the club of trying to do 4way exits out of KA. Anything besides a standard king air exit its not a great 4way training plane for exits. Are you guys taking the tail of a half beat early and keep point on of the last to leave the plane or are you peeling front float off first? www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com -
For most uses I use LP and including my tandem work. I can't see much of a difference. It it is something impotant like a film, for a client, I use SP. My 2 bits....... www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

We have a guy at my dz who has one. I'm getting a few pictures from to see how the image compares the the canon cmos sensor. I'll let you know when he sends them over. I found this on a review site about the camera. "A high-speed CPU and high-volume buffer memory enable the SD10 to shoot at 2.5 frames per second for up to 30 consecutive frames in LOW mode, up to 14 consecutive frames in MED mode, and up to 6 frames in high-quality HI mode. Pixels are pixels, low mode will probably be great for web stuff but a bit slow. I need to do some test with the smaller image size on my D60 and see if we get more frames consecutively. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

Discreet Cleaner XL for Streaming Web Video
blazetailman replied to videointhesky's topic in Photography and Video
I'm still using Cleaner 5. It's been one of the best if not the best encoder for many different formats. I would recommend using it, I personall export my finished project out of preneire as a avi at full dv resolution and then pump it through cleaner. The full version has great batch processing capablities so you can set one or more files up at differnet encoding if you want. Great software. Are you using it as a stand alone program or throgh premeire. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com -
I just bought my mobile system. I'm a multimedia producer and build a lot of websites and produce all on a pc. The whole MAC and PC thing is like RW and Freeflying. They are both good things. I've used both pc and mac. At one company I worked at a few years ago, I had a mac an pc on the same desk. Life got much easier when I just use a PC. If anyone wants to debate this lets start another thread. I love debating the mac and pc thing like rw and Freeflying. So After research and budget. I bout a Fujitsu N series laptop. 15" screen super Xvga, somthing screen P4 2.8, 512 mg ram, 40 gig harddrive. $1,500 Now Laptop hardrives spin a bit slower than most current multimedia systems. The average is 4,500 or 5200 rpm. The new standard for pc is 7200 rpm now which is one of the reason the average computer can handle video playback. So for the moblie user for all the raw space and speed a external USB harddrive is the way to go. This will also speed up renders and stability of your system. ( since we capture in dv through firewire, I like to use USB drives to not bog down the firewire bus. USB 2.0 is more than capable of handleing DV transfer rates. ) I have an external drive enclosure that I can but hardrives or internal dvd/cd/ drives into. They are about $60 bucks. Simple to use and put together. See attached picture. Then find a good 120+ GIG hardrive or internal dvd burner for a good price. Its cheaper overall for being able to swap drives out when needed. Testing the system. Everything runs great for a laptop. Its not as fast as my work station but this system is real nice. I'll buy more ram down the road but for the time being it runs smooth and its really nice to be mobile and on location to edit and download and edit digital. I'm not fond of sony computer products. Everything else sony is nice but their laptops in the past have been headaches. My 2 bits. Reasearch on zdnet.com for product reviews. They are right on. I hook up my sprint pcs phone and get wireless connection faster than 54k. I think some dz and cafes offer free wireless so I have a wirelss net work card too. Runs reall nice. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

I videoed an inflatable octopus which wrapped around the leg of the last guy there. It was quite scary as I left at 2000ft. He got out of it but was a bit low. Be careful with anything inflatable and remember it is trying to kill along with everyone else on the plane including yourself. edited for spelling... too many to list www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

That's too bad about your experience. It looks like this could be a real small retailer since it is a yahoo store. You probably made a good call by cancelling your order reducing any further headaches. I personally make all my online purchases from bhphotovideo.com. They are one of the largest stores oneline/with an actual store front out of New York. I've bought 2 camera bodies, lenes and video camera and accesories from them without a single complaint. Fast service competitve prices and good delivery times. You might pay a few dollars more but not much. What I pay any extra for I get the confidence that its coming from a reputable reatiler. One thing, they are New Yorkers so have your order ready and credit cards handy if nyou call the order in. They like to move fast, I do most of my orders online now. Their store is set up really nice. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

I think the slo mo part of the thread was well dicussed to solve your problem, But i noticed something else. People kept recommending to unlink the audio. If you capture just skydiving footage, most of the time the audio of freefall is useless for video. There is not need to capture it. Save on file size and bandwidth. The easiest way to do it is to click the box in the lowere left of the capture window. see the attached. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

Yes, I agree... Try to reason with the company first. Then bitch at them.. My worry with the helmet is ventilation. Dosn't look like there is much. This was the same intial problem with the new Skystems oxygen flip up visors at the 300 way. The new design has litle less ventilation. Big problem in colder environements. Ps. sorry for the spelling errors, I'm feeling lazy today. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
