blazetailman replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions

Pics from the VC II are up at: http://www.petergallistudios.com The event was over the Thanksgiving weekend. The 25ish participants were spit into 2 groups for Fridays jumps and Sunday came together as one for Bigways. Saturday was weathered out. Leon Toson from Quitana and I were the camera jockeys. I'll contact Leon and see if he'll be posting his images from the weekend. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

wow that link to the survey on jobs for photographers was quite optimistic. In California advertising photogs have been diminishing. I worked in the Sacramento and San Fran area and during the dot bomb a lot of the studios closed. This might be a Cali thing but with the advent of digital cameras, desktop pub, slow economy I can hardly call myself a fulltime photog. I've been in the biz since 96 and have watched it decline since not grow. People are more likely to have an employee with a low cost digital camera take a snap shot instead of having a pro take it. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

I don't use a quick release for any cameras. Especially the film. I need to keep the cameras as low profile as possible and liked saving the money. I use a trv 27 with a kenko .42 wide angle and had to move the video farther forward with the D60 and sigma 15 which sticks out farther than my film with a 24 mm. The lens was in the video frame. So a quick release would add height to the camera and I would have to move the video even farther forward. I can switch between digital or film stills quite easy. I have bite switches for both stored in the helemt and just swap with thumb screws. I need to take the film camera off between jumps but the digital could stay on all day. I can access the cf card and batteries without takeing the camera off. Quick realeases are nice if they make things easier for ya. but thats like 2 tickets. Use the money trying and practicing taking pics....... ps.. Jim do you recognize the video camera in the picture to the left..

how to make diff resolution on Digital Rebel
blazetailman replied to StevePhelps's topic in Photography and Video
ok, Changing the print specs only effects the printing of the image. So if you send the file to me for example, It is the same high quality image as it would be if we send it to the mages. This might be tough to explain: Raw pixels in image demsions is true scale of resolution. So for example ... there is no need to batch process them. if you are sending the digital images out to magazines, then send the jpg. as is. that is the untouched file. If you start messing with the print resloution, I'm more worried that you will end up upsizeing the image or shrinking it degrading the quality. I hope this is starting to make sense. I realize I am not a writer. That's why I'm a photographer. so if there are more questions, I see when I can reply but packing up for the nationals. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com -
how to make diff resolution on Digital Rebel
blazetailman replied to StevePhelps's topic in Photography and Video
Wait guys.... slow down a bit. here. Steve what is the reason you need to convert them. Beacuse we are only changing the specifications on the "print" size and not altering the image at all. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com -

blazetailman replied to StevePhelps's topic in Photography and Video
well yeah, The size in raw pixel is the same. The print size is what we are changing. Just make sure the resample is not selected and constrain proportions is checked. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com -
how to make diff resolution on Digital Rebel
blazetailman replied to StevePhelps's topic in Photography and Video
steve, I believe you have the camera set to large, correct? From what you said 40 inches wide at 72 dpi makes sense. You are ok. The image size 42 inches wide at 72 dpi is the same 11X17 at 180 dpi for 6mega pixel images. Go into "image size" in photoshop. ( I assume you are using it.) And change the print size to what ever you need with out resampling the image. Make sure its not selected in the dialog box. There are a few ways to do this but learning how the image size dialog box works and the difference between print size and pixel demesion is important. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com -
Well it should really be defined. Because if there is a difference between an Flocking jump, tracking and Atmonti then set flying with belly jumpers is different than people hanging off of belly fliers with others docking is a hybrid? I'll agree this is nothing terribly new. If a hybrid is a formation with different forms of body flight then I seen and personally been on a number of funnels that would qualify. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

Andy, go to a book store and get your hands on a basic photography book. It will demystify a lot. Quade described it but a book will show with diagrams. They shoot and experiment. Its the only way you will learn. Lucky for digital. Not as expensive as film. nice exit shot quade. do you have any pics up from the bigways? I couldn't make it to play. I'll have to relive it in pics. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

I a gree with weegegirl. Its really awesome to do on a big way. BUT We would have to define what hybrids are. We built a 22way hybrid. 7 belly, 7hangers and 8 stingers(head down) I think this is the largest or very close. What happened on the 100 ways is awesom and with the tunnel teahing us to fly a little different, we will continue to do some amazing things. People usualy think its impossible to do until some goes and does it. Wish I could have made it down there. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

Hey Brian, what were the reasone because the judges descriptin was for the points in the next round. I think the rules are a tough read for the competitors and the judges. But it hurts the compeittors the most. Good luck Anomly and Loki. And Trent, props man. I need an Anomly shirt now after I caught you wearing the Guano shirt in the team pic. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

As long as you don't throw any cows out of planes, and the official drink is not Jack Daniels its all good.I think you guys have something good going. Those are pretty much SM trade traditions. It lists the X sync @ 250 which is the pc terminal which is used with older flashes and studio strobes. I'm sure they have high speed sync with the canon flash units that is much faster. I'll look into it. I think they wouldn't release the camera wtih just a 250 sync. New pics from the Norcal FreeFly Festival are up at http://www.petergallistudios.com Shot with the old D60. The Guano video from the video presentation coming later today. BTW my D60 is up for sale. PM serous offers..... www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com -
Same think happen but with checks. My truck was broken into and the got a hold of enough info to get what they needed. It is a huge mess for me and my credit rating still to this day 5 years later. So I lurked this thread for a bit and it sounds like the course costs a lot to get some experience. I give the course director some kudos for thinking of a new way to teach people and earn some money. As long as it is a thought out course, then it should be fine. After all how can a professional skydiver make a living. But to some of you aspiring to get working jobs at the dropzone, you can get to the same place the course will get you by putting your time in and asking a lot of questions. Especially in the photo department. first get your air experience, then when you are ready for the camera, put in on and start asking to film your friends. 99% for skydiving photography is flying yoyr ass off chasing the skydive around the sky. You will be making a lot of mistakes, this is the learning process. Then as you make a name for yorself you will get approached to video for slot, then when your work is up to professional standards, you will make a wage. I define professional standard as getting the shot. This takes more experience in this day and age where just about every has a camera on their head but few people shoot good video. These are two seperate issues. Just because you have a few hundred jumps, nice jumpesuit and rig, and expensive camera gear dosent entitle you to a working slot. Camera flying is about putting your time in and aquireing a good reputation of shooting video. Many camera flyers have dedicated a lot of time and money by doing this. By taking a paid slot and not producing good work that is up to standard is completly unprofessional in my mind. So don't rush yourself. This is why you will see someone for a season then they split because they see little work. This course sounds like it will acclerate you a bit faster than most, but it should be understood that it is probably a few years before it would begin to pay off. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

I knew there was a reason I don't visit this forum. I don't think what I said was criptic. The american economy is a capitolist society. we make money on violent movies, porn, and on abousulty every thing we can. I;m not making a judgement on it just stating a fact. Now some of cultures find this ofensive and to some conflicts with religion. From what I know some of the middleeastern cultures experience this dislike. one of the reason they target us. now they are making little booble osmas. a little toy. to sell and make money. I doubt osoma licsened them or recives royalties for it. I find it tasteless. For supports of them I'm sure it is a source of pride. I don't think my comments where cryptic at all. please make an educated response. Clint. Marc thanks for asking me to explain and not just blurting something out. I'm done with this commentary. If anyone whats to go at it in person I will. please no PMs. Sorry for the misspellings... www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

how'd you come up with that with what I said? Please to don't infer that. I made an observation. My comment was made to show some of them are himpicritical. nor was this thread started in support of terrorists. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
