Should work fine. Its 12 mb give it a chance to load. 12mb for dsl takes a bit longer than cable. I'll be uploading a smaller video for people to pick what they want. This was the only one I had. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

Tim, we could get 2 others and get someone a falcon doing a 4 point 4way. Star, flower, open acc, 2way with the others stining packpacks. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

well, if we were to add a skill based freefly award: What would we name it? How many people on the jump? Are the doing vrw? if so how many points? is it all head down? Sit? Technically, you could get a falcon, double falcon, eagel and double eagle doing vrw. Points are points regardless of what attitude you are in...... www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

well my concept is the award is based on skill. Just like the Falcon is. A skill that is defined as 4way with so many points. I think we can cater it to the needs of the disciplne. Head down with "#" of people doing "#" of points with complete breaks. Some one with a D lic. can sign it off. Something simple. when it comes to jumping with groups its up to the organizer or the most expereinced person to slot people where they go, breif them and keep it from becoming a zoo load. If some one has trouble with fall rate, or other flying problems the organizer or another experienced jumper should give that person a few tips to improve on what happened. I know some freefliers don't like debreifs or shine them off but they are an important part of safety and learning in our sport. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

I think having a few awards similar to the falcon and such gives a person a reason to jump and improve their skills and safety. I had an organizer ask me about the Falcon. Got a few other jumpers and we didi it. I was excited. Never sent the award in. Used the money for jump ticket. But I accomplished the skill. I think if there were awards for freeflying based on skill, discipline they would be very welcomed. People are looking for jumps to do, they don't want to do zoo loads. I think this would be a good use of the forum to have ideas submitted, refined and sent to the USPA. I know they would love the input of a plan that was thought out. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

It is worth it for convience and knowing if your camera is on. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

I have the D60 (same camera) and shot these 2 shots with the 24mm. I like it a lot. I usually use the sigma 15mm to match my video flying and like it too. But these shots are a different look and when done right look so different than the bulk of the shots which are wide angle. I have a series of tandem shotsfrom below on my back of a girl screaming bloody murder on exit. The hard drive crashed and I lost those shots because I didn't back them up. So back up those digital shots. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

Making pics smaller...please help...
blazetailman replied to Kimblair13's topic in Photography and Video
Ok, a quick still imaging primer. on screen display is about pixels. right now we won't worry about file file size. And since we are talking about on screen display we are dealing with a set resolution of 72ppi. Just remeber this. This is the resolution of monitors. A little more backround on monitors. the average 15 in monitor is 800 pixels wide by 600 pixels tall. with 17 in monitors with desktop resolutions around 1280 x1024 pixels or more. My laptop for example is set at 1400 x 1050. We will come back to this later. So when you are setting up pics for the web you are more concerned with raw pixels. "Pixel Dimension" in your case 65 x75 . There is a setting on the scanner or your imaging software should be 72dpi. If you set it more there will be more pixels in the file making a lrger file size. The more pixels the larger the file size. So what you need to look for in the imaging software is a "save for web" function or "Image size" as in Photoshop. change your raw pixel demensions to 65x75 and save it as a jpg. there are other methods you can do to accomplish the same goal eg. using the cropping tool set to 65 x 75. File size is then adjusted during the saving part to a jpg. The averae photo can be compressed to 50% quality with little dithering. When you are scanning the picture you can set the scanner to 72dpi to capture it as a smaller file, as long as you crop the picture to the exact framing you want to post to the web or email. Now I covered a bit of info in a pretty short amount of time. If you need more help let me know. I can post more of tutorial. If you want email me the file and I can size it down for you. peter@petergallistudios.com www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com -
I have one but currently using it as a second camera mounted upside down to get footage rightside up for head down freefly training. It is also a backup camera for National Comp to run 2 cameras incase one mals during the comp. The roll cage does weigh more but I like them more than the boxes. Easy to mount and bomber. I'll keep my eye open for one and let you know if mine come available. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

Pre-PMA 2004: Canon today announced the impressively specified EOS-1D Mark II which features a new 8.2 megapixel CMOS sensor, it can shoot at just over eight frames per second and has a 40 frame JPEG image buffer (20 frames in RAW mode). This means that shooting at full resolution at full speed the camera is buffering 69 megapixels per second (or 100 MB/sec). Other changes include the addition of a USB port, an SD slot, the removal of the external white balance sensor as well as some subtle body styling changes. The cost? $4,499 to you Sir... www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

I'm getting in this thread much later than I wish. I'm on assignment in Palau, in the South Pacific for 3 more weeks. I would have loved to get in a few professional ethics and standardsin on this one. So on that, let me chime in a few quick points. 1)The first and biggest thing to kill an industry is price undercutting. 2)The skydiving indusrty is makeing money, not a lot but they are. Don't kid yourself about it. They have equipment. cars and bills that are paid for. ----------- I think the orginal post is very much about the rates and ethics of usage of the images in the sport. The rates need an increase, publishers and advertisiers need to accept that rates of "quality" images will go up. We can't stop the use of images for less than standard rates, but if they want quality shots for pros, we need to come to a number that is closer to a modern living rate. The look of skydiving is really still in the 80s. Ads and magazines are behind main stream design and trends. Part of this reason is the use of amatuer art. The last year I'ves seen some great ads and pictures. Things are changing for the better and some of the design and photo work is outstanding. It's not hard to translate the increase cost. We all balance that out every day. My cost go up when processing goes up, or the such. That's business and the selling and buying of photos is business. If someone approches me for a photo and the negotitions start, I have my walk away price. I let them know I have cost and overhead I have to meet and those are my costs to produce quality work. What needs attention is the person, who undercuts a professional job. the ole"i can do it for cheaper" You pay for what you get. A professional who has experience to get the shot and Its up to us and no one else to sell our photos. The more I go out and push my work the more successful I will be. My advive to someone thinking they want to get into selling there photos for money. Do some research on professional ethics. Your attitude reflects a lot of people. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

I 2nd or rather 3rd that motion. Epson printers, Epson, Inks, Epson paper is the best quality and least compatbility issues. I read an article that said some off brand inks look nice but fade fast. I'll stay with epson. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

Its the stuff inside the helmet that takes a good shot. That does look like a beefy sang point. Be carefull and make sure it dosen't block your fov under canopy. I think the dot on the gogles is the way to go. I jump a ring sitght now and the optics on the lens is what gives you the enhanced sighting. My 2 bits. Good luck. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com -
Anyone else drooling on the Nikon D2H?
blazetailman replied to Viking's topic in Photography and Video
hey, good for you. I just bash Nikon digital. Nikon has made lengendary cameras. And lens to match. I would love to have an F5 just on feel an durability. I just get lost using a nikon. And like I said its the shooter that gets a good shot not the camera. I would also love to get sequece shots with one of those 8fps cameras in skydiving. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com -
from my expereince in the phtoto world, guide numbers were a gauge to see how powerful the flash was. The bigger the number, the more powerfuk the flash. Not much more interest in it than that. But this is a good educational thread. The automatic flash funtions help the average shot, I use a little flash exposre compenstion to tone it down so it dosen't become overbearing. It gives a more natural fill instead of the flood light wash out. www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com

In the first article, the inverse quare law is a good expantion on light and how flash units work in manual mode which the 550 has and is easy to use. this will also give a good working expereince with test shots to see how light works.
