I wondered for a while if you are the skydiver that frequents the 419eater forums. But after reading your comment above I now know you are not. Was it not obvious it was meant in jest? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

Before the Brits start thinking they are safe from the hurricane season maybe they should take a look at this. Hurricane Karl Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

Well, I guess I'll blow the whistle on this one today. Low pull, cypres fire and a landing with two out in a bi-plane. The student never knew he had a two out until he had landed Still, no injuries and another day survived at the DZ. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

Reply to Riggerrob: There were no static liners on the the plane, although here it is not forbidden. To the people that question the state of the tandems harness, that was adjusted and tight, what the tandem master was tightening was the belts for the freefall stabilzer hook ups. Sorry if that was not clear, I'm only the vidiot. Also the exits were not paniked. It came close but I stopped everyone rushing out to quickly even though I was the first that could have been out of the door. The aircraft was still flying and we made an orderly exit at 5000 ft. That some jumpers never bothered to put their googles on??? I didn't, but I knew I would be pulling quickly due to the long spot. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

Today I noticed how important it is to be ready to jump when the aircarft is climbing to altitude and especially when some are exiting at 5000ft and the rest (you) at 14000ft. Unfortunately a pilot chute from one of the jumpers leaving at 5000ft got wrapped around the stabilizer of the aircraft. The pilot chute then snapped allowing the main to deploy without any further entanglement. The pilot chute (collapsed) remained attached to the aircraft. We decide to all to bailout, including the tandem for which I was doing video. There was no video for the guest in the end Lot's of people jumping without goggles, including me , I watched the tandem exit, quickly trying to get all the belts tightened up, then out. I thought at the time time the TM had so much freefall I could have done the video. No injuries, and the pilot landed O.K.

"You can do everything right and still die in this sport".

I don't think you understood my point. I was just trying to say that I do not consider "hands on the rear risers try to help the opening" as bad body position. Urban legend. One of the few that is not listed in snopes. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl -
What on earth were you thinking of All I can say is I am glad you did not buy your wife an assault rifle to protect herself. Great story though Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

Uh, if it spun up do to you messing with it while it snivels...It would be body position. By that definition we could change a few incident reports. Low Turn: Due to bad body position the canopy went into a turn too close to the ground for recovery. No pull: Due to bad body position the left hand was no where near the reserve handle and the jumper was unable to pull it. Canopy collision: Due to bad body position, the jumpers hands were closer to his booties than to his toggles, he was unable to avoid the other jumper. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl -
I think the nitro flies big and small. Short recovery arc like a big canopy. Very agile like a small canopy. The proof is in the pudding. Try one

Just a story of my accomplishments in landing :)
speedy replied to skyhighkiy's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Have a look at the threads on exit separtion. Those threads are full of people that think they are right and have got it all wrong. I don't want to rehash what everyones has been saying, but please, take things a bit more slowly. I like the way you don't get all uppetty when people criticise what you are doing and would like to see you survive your 1st 500 jumps. The sentence you posted about Brain's book you are reading should be used as a review quote. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl -

I was told that only three things cause malfunctions: 1. Bad Packing. 2. Bad Maintenance 3. Bad body position. I really can't think of a mal that does not fit into those 3 areas. All or some in each. I had two mals that required cutaways that had nothing to do with the three above. Now I don't mess with my risers during the snivel phase, even if the canopy looks like it's going into line twists. If the Bernouli principal is the only reason a wing flies, how come planes can fly upside down? Why are they not sucked to the ground? There is a lot more to flight than Bernouli. And just to put the thread back on topic, I think Skyhighkiy has learnt something from this thread and Brians book. He did say in a post here that he will be taking it a lot more slowly from now on. ONCE there was this guy, who had spent his whole life being totally OBSESSED with tractors. He had tractor everything! Wallpaper, bedcovers, tractor carpet, his curtains had tractors on them, tractor books... He knew everything there was too know about tractors! With his 27th birthday rolled around and he treated himself to his usual tractor birthday cake, but as he blew out his candles he stopped and realised he had no friends, and had done nothing with his life. So he decided things had to change. He ran upstairs, ripped down his posters, tore up his carpet, got rid of all his tractor merchandise and headed down to his local pub! Not long after arriving and ordering his first ever pint, a fire broke out, the pub soon became filled with black smoke and people began choking and fighting to escape. The guy stood up from his quiet corner, held out his arms and with one deep breath inhaled all the smoke in the room leaving the air fresh and clear! The people cheered as they picked themselves up from the floor asking "How the hell did you do that? you saved our lives!" The guy said: "I'm an ex-tractor fan!" Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

and an AAD that fires while I am on the video step is going kill me and possibly anyone still in the aircraft. Misfires are just not acceptable for an AAD. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

What anti-fog solution do you use on your camera lens?
speedy replied to rylord's topic in Photography and Video
1st you must find out what sort of fogging is taking place. Is it on the outside of the wide angle lense or on the inside? Sony 0.6 wide angle lenses tend to fog on the inside, creating a white fogged spot in the middle of the picture. If this is your problem the the solution is here http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1076975;#1076975. If this is not your problem then maybe the cat stuff will help. Yet another method to calculate exit seperation
speedy replied to speedy's topic in Safety and Training
I agree, but would like to add, canopy skills also play an important role. I go last out quite often as tandem vidiot with my velocity loaded at around 2.0 to 1. Depending on the situation I decide when I land. That could be after the students with huge canopies. as always edited for spilling. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl -
they are low pressure areas which causes the air to rise, effectively sucking everything off the ground Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

I am a device dependent kiddie!

If I was worried one little bit about the possibility of a misfire I would not use cypres, ever. Still, its your decision. Thank for the reply. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl -

Why did you not turn your cypres on for CRW? If it's there, you may as well turn it on. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl -
Yet another method to calculate exit seperation
speedy replied to speedy's topic in Safety and Training
Of course wind speed (both uppers and lowers), aircraft speed, direction (cross or against the wind) all need to be taken into consideration. The article was written by a FF'er that wanted to put forward a good reason to let FF'ers exit first. The reason was to avoid congestion in the landing area. This is not altogether a bad idea, but at least the method of calculating the exit seperation should have been properly presented. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl -
Yet another method to calculate exit seperation
speedy replied to speedy's topic in Safety and Training
Yes FF have more penetration into the wind. Therefore if they go first they will reduce the seperation. This was addressed in the article, but the method of calculating how much extra time you need between exits if FF go 1st is not addressed correctly in the article. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl -
Yet another method to calculate exit seperation
speedy replied to speedy's topic in Safety and Training
This was published in Freifall Express, the official magazine of the DFV (Germany's equivelent of the USPA). When free fliers go before belly fliers. Free fliers tend to have a freefall time of 50 secs, belly fliers 60 secs. Therefore free fliers will drift 1/5th less than belly fliers. Free fliers tend to have less forward throw than belly fliers. So lets take another 1/5th. So if your normal exit seperation is 10 seconds, you have to add 2/5ths more when belly fliers go after the free fliers, which makes 14 seconds. Not a literal translation, but what was put across. The information to calculate this properly is freely available on the internet. Time to start writing a letter Dave Fallschirmsport Marl -
I guess it's not so novel then Still, the video was hillarious. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
