  1. I do wish people would stop talking about "recovery arch". it's arc for gods sake. Or is it really arch in the U.S. ? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  2. I believe most of the fatalities get reported although there have been fatalities in Germany that were not mentioned on DZ dot com. An ambulance does not always mean a serious injury and what is serious anyway? If we reported every broken bone in the incidents forum it would get fuller than the bonfire I think calling it a conspiracy is a bit strong. Sometimes people just cannot be bothered, do not know enough facts or have too much other stuff on their plates at the time. The last fatality at my dropzone in Germany was reported by Craig Poxon. No one at our DZ was really interested in posting anything about it and I can't say I blame them. Sorry I did not vote as none of the answers seemed to fit. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  3. Have you not noticed that the main difference between a weathervane and a canopy is that the weathervane is fixed to the ground? As John said, a canopy in flight cannot see the ground and thus cannot be influenced by a wind direction that is measured relative to the ground. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  4. Yes, that is what I was saying, but ..... I do not know what you mean by a pocket slider, Riggerrob mentioned pockets as well. Please ignore my advice for the moment until I understand what is meant by a pocket slider. Edited to add: Ok, after a search for "pocket slider" in the forums I found what I was looking for. Please continue to ignore my advice as I have no experience of such sliders on sabres. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  5. No one is required to add weights. I have no idea why Nadine added so much weight for the qualifiying jump. She could have qualified with zero kg's. I am no expert swooper but as far as I know there are 2 reasons why swoopers add weights. 1. A larger canopy will fly further than a smaller canopy when both have the same wing loading. 2. A higher wing loading will generate more speed but will not swoop as far. So more weight for speed rounds, less weight for distance rounds. The pilot is by far the most important factor in the equation. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  6. Stick with your Sabre for now and when you pack pull all of the slider out in front of the nose. That should stop it slamming you. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  7. Well sort of, I owned a vengeance 120 and the next canopy I owned was a velocity 90. But... I also did a load of jumps on a nitro 88, blade 88, vx 99 before I started on the velo. I borrowed the other canopies. I am surprised that you say the Velo flight characteristics are similar to a vengeance. I found the velocity extreme compared to the Vengeance, extreme diving, extreme speed and extreme sink rate. But about the openings, your are right that they are similar, both canopies I find are unpredictable in their openings. By the way, I'm in love with my velocity also. Be careful with your new baby though, it may bite your ass. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  8. The wind speed you feel does not change depending on whether the canopy is flying into or against the wind. But the rest of your story was interesting
  9. The spectators and mainly the sponsors. If there was not so much money involved then they would have said " Who gives a shit? Let's just race " Money spoils the sport.... now where is my sponsor for the next swoop meet coming from ? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  10. to which I never received an answer So I'll pose it again
  11. If they wern't turned on, then why not? Cypres may not be all that important for CRW, but it won't cause any harm. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  12. probably... I mean who isn't..... Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  13. and looking at the posts from NickDG and darkwing, that is not long enough Thanks guys for explaining
  14. Is this a term only used by the Germans to describe a deployment bag? I was told it stands for Parachute Opening Device. Any non Germans heard of this? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  15. Since when did a tight main closing loop make it difficult to extract a pilot chute out of a spandex pouch? Or was missfortunem jumping a pull out system? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  16. mmmm, interesting, it appears the Germans use an English acronym that does not exist Sorry, what I really meant was the deployment bag. Redundant words, a bit like "Personal PIN" or "PIN number" Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  17. Thanks Lou, nice pic and I'll will save it for future reference. In the pic we have the trackers/atmo's exiting 1st after the DZ, however, sometimes we have to put people out more than 1/2 a mile before the DZ. I guess then you just have to mirror image your diagram. The trackers/atmo's need to know if they are leaving before or after the DZ? Somehow I feel that this is wrong. What if they track with at least a 45° angle in the direction of the droprun? Assuming the droprun is into the wind. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  18. What is it really called... R.D.S Removable Deployment System.. is the deployment system the pilot chute and POD? If so, I have had one of these without a removable slider. R.S.S Removable Slider System ... The slider is removable and it just so happens that the POD and pilot chute are attached to the slider. Saw some nightmare constructions for an R.S.S last weekend . But the guys using them did not seem to be bothered. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  19. are the atmo groups exiting early or do they get out where a normal FS group get out. What flight plan are they adopting? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  20. Can someone tell where Atmonauti flyers should be getting out? I have heard that they tend to exit first. What sort of distance do they cover? We are starting to get "Atmonauts" at our DZ and I have no real idea where to put them on the jump run. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  21. Not an option for Belgian_Skygirl but I prefer 21 or 27 cell for the main Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  22. looks to me like a video capture from interlaced video. The line was there at some point in time,. Video captures sometimes show some wierd things. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  23. pardon? Was there something I missed Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  24. I was thinking the problem with terminal was that you are more likely to get burns in your main. I also find that my velo tends to open a bit quicker with the RDS in. I am not keen on getting slammed with a terminal opening. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  25. I really need to emigrate.... I'll come with you Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
