  1. It does state quite clear on my data card for the reserve in both English and German when the date of the next repack is due. This can be anything up to a year. This is sign and stamped by a qualified rigger in Germany. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  2. Too far is when the groom to be dies of alcoholic poisioning Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  3. Does this mean that if I jump in America with my German rig, where the reserve repack cycle is a full year, I do not need to meet the 120 day repack cycle requirements of the U.S? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  4. I am interested on comments relating to a Cessna Caravan. I would be interested to hear how your static line students exit the aircraft. No, I don't want answers like "unstable" Do they leave standing or sitting? We are using a Caravan 208B and have found that the students end up getting blown to the back of the door when sitting. The rig then sort of jams on the door frame as they jump preventing a clean exit. Exiting AFF style seems to an option and did work with one student. How do you do it? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  5. The line is a sort of loop. Each end of the loop being attached to the left and right of the slider at the rear. *------* | | *------* I I I I \ / \/ | The asterisks are the grommets on the slider. The letter 'I' and slashes being the line. The line length is I suppose critical because it has to be long enough to allow the canopy to come out of the d-bag before it starts to kill the pilot chute. Once the canopy opens the slider comes down bringing the d-bag with it. You can then detach the d-bag from the slider. When packing, line from the slider follows the top skin of the center cell to the d-bag. Excess line is stowed with a small rubber band in the d-bag. The d-bag is never attached to the main. It's only attached to the slider. This means you could get some very strange things happening with a pilot chute tugging away at the slider as the canopy opens. Also you have this extra line hanging around during opening that could go anywhere As I said, I don't recommend playing with this idea unless someone with knowledge of it is at hand on your DZ. Edited for spelling Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  6. A guy a my dropzone is using this mod. It's worked everytime I've seen him use it . Basically, it's a line attached to the slider. This line is then attached to the D-bag. He never goes to terminal before pull though. I can imagine that might cause problems with hard openings. When packing you really need to take care where the lanyard is routed. I would say that before you make this mod, or use it, you really need someone to help you face to face. To me, a better idea would be for all swoopers to use static line direct bag Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  7. I had exactly the same problem yesterday with my velocity. I managed to stop it going into twists by pulling on the right rear riser. The problem then was as the snivel ended it suddenly changed to a hard right turn that nearly put me in twists. The last time it did this I went into twists and that also resulted in a reserve. Nitro

I find the recovery arc mega short on a nitro which was the only reason I did not buy it. Great flare, nice openings and agility were reasons to buy. What wingload did you have? I was jumping one at about 2.0 : 1 until the lines broke Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  9. I guess now they can check if they were CIA operatives or not. Four arrested From sky news: EXECUTION: FOUR HELD Four people have been arrested over the beheading of American Nicholas Berg, Iraq sources say. The 26-year-old businessman's decapitated body was found 10 days ago in Baghdad. His killing was shown around the world on the internet. The poor quality website video showed Berg dressed in orange overalls kneeling on the floor with his hands tied back. There were five masked men behind him. One read a statement urging Muslims to take revenge over the abuse of Iraqi prisoners by American soldiers. The masked men then pushed the American contractor to the floor and shouted "God is greatest" above his screams. His head was cut off with a knife and then held aloft. The website said the execution was performed by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a top ally of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. It is not known if he was among the four people arrested. 11. While this is true, the difference between a crash and a safe landing is not determined by the above mentioned 3 feet. It's a continuous assessment process. Once you start the last turn, be it 90°, 180° or more, you are checking that the height is there to complete the manouver. If not, you abort the turn and land. You have much more than 3 feet of height to play with. The process of planing the canopy out takes time and should be done with smooth inputs that allow you to control how the canopy planes out. If you are a bit low maybe a bit more input is needed. If you are a bit high, maybe no input is needed. It's a bit like using the brakes on a car, gentle input and you bring the car to a stop just a couple of feet short of impact with the car in front. Disclaimer: I have only recently started learning swoop techniques so take my 2 cents worth with a pinch of salt. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  12. Easily stopped with the method I described above. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  13. as opposed to baked beans ? Maybe the gas generated can give more forward thrust. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  14. being grounded for whatever reason is torture. Sitting at the DZ while it rains is torture. Sleep deprivation? Don't think so, base jumpers don't seem to mind going without sleep to get that illegal jump in. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  15. I don't know nuffin about cat crap but I do know this works. Buy a UV filter for a stills camera where the glass is the same size as your sony wide angle at the big end. Remove the metal from the UV filter and put the glass on the end of your sony wide angle. Fix it with some insulation tape. No more fogging. Every vidiot on my DZ uses this method. I can't see the cat stuff working because the fogging is taking place inside the wide angle lense. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  16. Sorry to hear it did not work out for you. I've been practicing up high for a while on my velocity. Last Sunday on the last jump I wanted to do the landing but my approach suddenly got blocked by loads of spiraling idiots. Sod it, I went up again in the rain to get my attempt in. Did a 180 approach, a gentle pull on the rears and woooopppiiieee, the longest swoop I've ever had. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  17. I had it the other way round. After a freefall mal, the camera guy flew up to me as if he wanted to do CRW Go a nice video of me on my reserve though Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  18. I have (almost - need to convert feet to meters) translated John's Powerpoint slides into German just in case anyone wants to use them for a presentation in Germany. I'll be doing one soon at my DZ. I could post them on my web site and if John wants he could add a link to the German version on his site. Waddya think? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  19. If the exit seperation is correctly calculated this should not be a problem. However, calculating the correct seperation assumes that jumpers are not going to track further than neccessary and that in freefall they more or less fall down the tube. When tracking it helps if you keep your eyes peeled for jumpers below you and, if all is clear, you do not pull higher than planned. This way if something has gone wrong with the exit seperation, at least you might avoid the worst. People that say you should not track up/ down the jump run - in my opinion, at least half the people on the plane don't have a clue in which direction the jump run is Also, try not tracking up/down the jump run on a 25-way with no staged break off and seperation at 4000 ft Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  20. A friend of mine made a number of jumps on a Nitro 58. His exit weight is about 171 lbs. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  21. What do I need to create wmv files and do I have to pay for it? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  22. Either a Velocity loaded at 1.9 : 1 or a Vengeance loaded at 1.4 : 1 Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
  23. As soon as I saw your opening I thought thats a velocity
  24. To be more precise, the only way to make your cypres (Expert) fire after deployment is to exceed a vertical speed of 35 metres per second. For a student cypres the speed is 13 m/s. Edited to add: Of course this has to happen at the appropiate height. I believe on the nitro 58 they were getting around 32 m/s vetrical speed when diving the canopy. The article is in German http://www.hipercanopies.de/News.html I would be interested to hear more about what happened in Empuriabrava. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
