That's were the analogy didn't work to well for me personally. I can't see the similarity between a birdie and a belly flier. I did not say the professor was wrong ! I said that I did not think the analogy was a good one. For expressing that opinion I am accused of being a "nitpicking vocal minority". BTW, I can see the analogy between a dart and a freeflier, they are both big pricks. I'm done here. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

The analogy was good since 99% of the people would have been satisfied given it. I found the anaolgy bad because I thought about the difference in weight as well. While you may make assumptions about the knowledge and intelligence of students in your physics class, you cannot do the same with the people in this forum. A number of them think that a birdie is one under par for a hole in golf. Another person who thinks all skydivers weigh the same. Do you really think I believe that? You have really missed the point You used a bad analogy for the average skydiver and that's why people are still using the 45° rule. It easier to follow than birdies, darts and BC . I vote other because..... It's already ended. Have you not realized, we are all dead and in hell. Why do you think we have global warming? Hint: hell is not a cold place. The disease, poverty and crime surrounding us should be enough to convince anyone this is hell. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

That's quite balmy actually. -20 C at altitude in Marl, Germany on 1/1/2006. I would have thought the problem in Finland would be that it never gets light in winter. Still, that means in summer you can do 24 hour jumping.

So it wasn't 1991 then? Just like 1991. Was it 1992? That's sort of like 1991, only a year later. Or was it 1919? That's also like 1991, only the last two digits are switched around. Is this where you got your name? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

A jumper at our club had a spinner on opening, he looked for his toogles an could only find one . He chopped. These were also only finger trapped. I would also go for the bar tack. I did have knots on a VX I jump. I got rid of the knots as they tended to get hung up on the guide rings. Not nice when you are flaring. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

Yeah, but if you do that they get all sulky and bad mouth your DZ all over the place. Hey don't got to Marl, they are full of canopy Nazi's there. But we are not ! So what do you do? You let him jump and hope that you don't have to fill out the accident report. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

I still have no idea what the smallest number of coconuts is Can someone help

Hey Bill, you forget the ... "you have not seen me fly my canopy so you don't know if I am good enough for the Xfire". Three people, all instructors, all with over a 1000 jumps, all saying it's not a good idea. But he still wants to jump it. So I phone someone who knows how he flies his canopy from the DZ where he jumps more often. This person is qualified up to the eyeballs, AFF Instructor/examiner, Tandem Instructor, Rigger, zillions of jumps, a real nice guy. And guess what.. He said "yes, I think he's OK to jump the XFire". So what do I do? There's no law against it. I let him jump it. At the moment he's still alive and walking. At the moment...... Edited to add this: There are a number of people that have voted "depends on skill/training". No one seems to have put this argument forward in the discussion. Why? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
-
I don't need to ask the question, I know the answer. With this thread I do have a lot of other people with over a 1000 jumps expressing their opinion. If I print this out and present it to him he might think about what he's doing.

I don't know what you are complaining about. It looks fine to me, just like my rig after a day of down winders through the swoop course Most of the mud drops off on it's own anyway. You only need to wash it if you are thinking of selling it. Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

Oh, while we're at it with rules, what about the same guy while still under 200 jumps, jumping a wing suit and on his third jump jumping a Skyflyer 3? Did I also mention the video camera he was wearing at the time as well? Rules? There are 3 rules. 1. reserve in date? 2. got insurance? 3. gotta license? Yes, yes and yes. You're good to go! Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
-
In whose regulations? Your profile says that you come from europe / Germany with the licensing org being the DFU. I assume that's a typo and you mean the DFV. So where are the rules that say he can't jump the canopy? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

Experience is a little under 2 years in the sport, total 238 jumps, exit weight 194 lbs (88kg). Since off student gear has been jumping mainly a Spingo 160. Has done a few jumps on a faqtor 135, and some (3 or 4) on a safire 119. Now, after checking its hooked up right, he wants to do his first jumps on his newly acquired Crossfire 119. Do you let him jump? Dave Fallschirmsport Marl

Well what do you think? I guess a review of the IP numbers from where the posts came would help. I am tending to think "setup". Dave Fallschirmsport Marl
